Meeting new customers sounds like a scary endeavor, but it’s actually really fun to put yourself out there and meet new

women! Enclosed in this packet are several ideas that are easy to implement and will help you with your business. I’ve

had a lot of experience with these types of ideas and they work great as long as you keep in mind the following

IMPORTANT TIPS!!!!!

1. No matter what you do YOU MUST CALL THE LEADS YOU GET RIGHT AWAY!!! Your results decrease

50% or more after you let time slip by. I cannot stress this enough. You must schedule in the event and also

schedule time to call the leads at the same time!!!

2. WORK THE NUMBERS!! Not everyone you meet will book, not everyone you book will hold. Please know

At the Skin Care Class-Bookings from Bookings, Deal or no deal

Description:

Playing a fun game of chance at the end of your skin care class to get your customers excited about booking with you!

Materials needed:

Envelopes with “Book to Look” written on them with your hostess credit written on them, I use different hostess credits

in each envelope. That is what they get at their follow up. The envelopes DO NOT have to be fancy, some of mine are

white envelopes with “Book to look” written in sharpie and the slips inside are hand written.

At the end of class after table close:

Ok now we are going to play Deal or no deal like I said earlier. To count as a Mary Kay show, it has to be you and 3 other

people I haven’t already met with, just you and 3 others! (use your hand to point while you say that). But wasn’t it fun

tonight when we had 6-7? (nod as you say that, if there isn’t 6-7, just nod and say, “wouldn’t it be fun though to have 6-

7?”

So here’s how it works, I want you to know if you say “no deal” I love you anyways. If you say “deal” it means you are

going to get together with you and at least 3 other people either at your house or at my Ladies night on Thursday night

and then you get what’s in your envelope. Now I have to tell you ladies, there is some GOOD STUFF in the envelopes,

one envelope has ___________,and another has ______________and another has ____________________!!! PLUS if

you decide to book you also get 10 tickets towards the drawing/ free gift I’m giving away tonight (usually a couple old

eyeshadows wrapped etc), plus if you book by March 15th you also get this extra gift______________ (something small

like mint bliss lotion, subtle tanning lotion, 2-in-1 wash and shave, etc.—I change the date to be no more than 1 month

out, so they book in a quick time frame). What we’ll do then is set a tentative date that works for me and you, that way

you know what works for me, and we’ll do that when I meet with you in my executive suit in Mary’s living room in a few

minutes. If for some reason you check in the next 2 days and it doesn’t work we can always change the date.

So again, if you say deal, it means you get 10 tickets towards the drawing tonight, what’s in your envelope, and if you

book by March 15th you also get this subtle tanning lotion. Now I’m going to be a little dramatic like the show, are you

ready? Ok, who should I pick on first? Ok, MARY! DO WE HAVE A DEAL! (she says deal), “OK OPEN YOUR ENVELOPE!!”

(she opens it and is excited, be sure to write her deal in your datebook next to her name)

***go around and ask everyone if we have a deal. Always pick the most excited person first who you really liked and

who you are sure will book. It gets the others thinking on it. If someone says no deal, I have them open the envelope

anyways. If they are really disappointed, I quietly tell them at their individual consultation that they can still take the

deal if they want.

***It is important to be excited and maybe a little goofy when asking them if we have a deal. They will pressure

themselves and their friends you just stand there and smile. They always have a ton of fun with it, plus they are making a

VERBAL commitment in front of their friends. You can then go into coaching when meeting with them individually.

***If anyone wants to wait until their follow up to buy I say “Usually what people do is get what they were going to get

tonight, and then use this free stuff to get the accessories or add on things you weren’t able to get tonight”

***Always give your hostess from that night an envelope I’ve had some hostesses re-book 2-3 times with NEW people

because she keeps wanting to say deal. Or she may want to bring a new set of friends to your meeting.

REFERRAL GAME

Have them put on Satin Lip Mask in Between Skin care and Color

We are going to play a game, you can only play if you like me (wink at them).

Because we don’t advertise a lot in Mary Kay, I work based on referrals.

“I’m going to have you flip over your pink profile card, on the back under #4

it says “Give your friends the gift of a complimentary facial, please list friends

who would enjoy some pampering”…We take it as a high compliment if you

refer your friends to us__________ was I nice to you on the phone? Great,

I’m nice to your friends too! I offer them a pamper session and a gift

certificate, if they want it great, if not I don’t ever contact them again…with

that said I’m going to give you 2 minutes to write down everyone you know

who’s overworked, under pampered, and underappreciated and could use

some pampering with MK” If you can think of 5 names and numbers, I give

you a travel sized mascara, if you are Mrs. Lots of Friends and can think of 15

I’ll give you a mini cellushape treatment (or whatever PCP gift with

purchase). READY….SET…..GO!!!

Warm Chatter/Conversational Booking

Description:

This is an easy way to meet new customers! When you are out and about doing errands in your daily life,

talking with women around you and offering them pampering with Mary Kay

Materials Needed:

-Business Cards

-Pen

How to:

This is something you can do as you are out and about. Anytime someone is in your space at Target, the

grocery store, getting your oil changed, picking up your kids, offering them a facial and pampering with Mary

Kay. It is important to always have business cards available in your purse. You may be at Target and you have

someone at the checkout who randomly starts talking with you or a really great waitress at your restaurant

and you say “You can totally laugh at me for asking you this, but you are too fun I thought I would anyways,

but have you ever done a fun skin care and makeover pamper thing with Mary Kay?” (you could also add that

you are gathering the opinions of 30 women on Mary Kay products this month). She may laugh a little too and

you can simply say “is that something you’d enjoy?” When she says yes, give her your business card and then

also say “here’s what I’ll do since you’re shopping too, if it’s ok to get your name and phone I’ll call you and

get details.” Write her name and phone number down and also ask the best time to call.

Tips:

-Ask people around you, women are flattered to be asked and complimented even if what you’re offering isn’t

for them

-You need to get their name and number too, they won’t call you just from passing out your card

-ask the best time to call them so you don’t have to guess or play phone tag.

Call Dialog:

Hi__________This is ______________, we met yesterday at __________, do you remember that? Like I was

telling you yesterday I’m working on pampering 30 women this month and getting their opinion of Mary Kay.

We get together and do a skin care consultation, makeover, and you get a gift certificate for helping me out. Is

that something you’d still enjoy____________? YAY! I do my appointments in 2 ways, whatever works for you

will be fine for me, one way is Monday nights I do after work pampering from 6-7:30 in Minnetonka at the

Holiday inn Express, otherwise I come to your house and do it there. I’m also doing a fun side promotion to

help finish my 30. If you have any girlfriends who’d get a kick out of doing this with you, if you have 2 join you

who are over 18 and not working with another consultant I’ll double your gift certificate from

___to______and if you are Ms. Tons of Friends and have 4 join you I triple it to _____. What do you think

would be more fun, at your house or an after work pampering thing? (book it). Can I also get your email and

send you all my info etc? THANKS! We’ll be in touch closer to the time to confirm.

Restaurant Promotions

Description:

Partnering up with a restaurant and acting as their greeter for the night! You’ll hand out a flower to each

woman that enters the door, greet them, and offer them a drawing slip for Mary Kay and restaurant gift

certificates.

Materials Needed:

-drawings slips

-lots of pens

-small basket to hold your flowers, pens and slips

-business cards

-Flowers, Sam’s Club typically has the best deal on carnations. If you are going in with a friend or two go to

www.globalrose.com

-Prize booking dialog to call the leads when you’re done

How to:

Setting up a restaurant

Set up for Valentines day, mother’s day, ladies nights the restaurant may be doing,St. Patty’s day (hand out beads

instead of flowers), over a lunch hour to honor working women, ANYTIME BE CREATIVE!!

Call and set up a restaurant to partner with. Usually non-chain restaurants are best. Call the restaurant and ask for the

owner or manager. Script: Hi _________ this is _________and I’m a Mary Kay consultant in the area. I like to do fun

events for women in the area, and what I do is work with a restaurant and come in and hand out a flower to each

woman who comes in, greet them, and offer a drawing for gift certificates to Mary Kay and also the restaurant. It

creates a ton of excitement in the restaurant, everyone loves getting a flower! I was wondering if this is something

we can partner up and do?

They may have more questions for you, but most will give you an idea right away. Set up the time and ask how many

customers he/she usually sees on that day and figure ½ will be women. Ask if he/she will be working that night so

that you know who to work with when you get there. You may want to find out what time business really picks up

that night and get there a little before that.

When you arrive:

Arrive dressed SHARP and have your warmest smile on for the night. Have the flowers with you and a nice basket to

drape the flowers over. In the basket should be your registration slips and pen. Sometimes you will have a table to rest

the flowers on and sometimes you will need to hold the basket- depends on the set up. Make sure you pull out about

10 flowers and get set to greet people with pen, flowers, and drawing slips in hand.

Make sure to set up right at the front door and as the women walk through the door hand them a carnation and say

“Happy Valentine’s Day- this is for you compliments of Mary Kay and ________(restaurant name). Here is a slip for

the drawing we are doing for gift certificates to Mary Kay as well as _______.” Note: if you ask them if they want a

flower they may say no because they think they have to buy them. It is very important to say “This is for you” and

get the flowers in their hand. Also, “Here is a slip for the drawing we are doing” and put the slip in their hand. If

you ask them if they want to put their name in they may say “no”.

If the women come in together, if possible, tab the names together so you only call one as the winner. You really have to

watch this.

If you are finding that not many people are taking a flower or signing up for your drawing, something you are saying is

not quite right- look over this paper and try again. Close to everyone should take a flower and about 90% should fill

out a drawing slip.

When your flowers are done or its 9pm and nobody else is coming in then go to the manager and thank that person and

compliment the staff. Ask him/her who to buy the gift certificate(s) from. (Make this quick- he/she is busy)

It is your decision how much you want to spend on certificates from the restaurant. It depends on what kind of

restaurant it is and how much traffic has gone through. On a really good Valentines night I have no problem spending

$50 on gift certificates- maybe 2 $25 or 3 $20 but only if I got 50 really great useable names. If it was a slow night then

just 1 $20 gift certificate would be sufficient.

Last, go home and rest your feet. You will be tired but exhilarated. You may want to count up your names and pick your

winners so you have them set for next day calls. The gift certificate for the restaurant comes with the makeover- not

separate. If they won the gift certificate from the restaurant you would say “Congratulations you’re a winner of a

________ gift certificate and makeover with Mary Kay.” If they say they can’t or don’t want the makeover with Mary

Kay then I just thank them and let them know I will pull a new winner. It is a package deal. We don’t send gift

certificates, they get them when they meet with us.

Fish Bowl Drawings

Description:

This is an easy way to meet new customers! Simply put out a fishbowl type drawing bowl at a business with a

giveaway and collect leads from drawing entries.

Materials Needed:

-drawings slips

-rubber band (to put around slips so they won’t blow away while in the business)

-pen

-drawing receptacle-oatmeal can decorated, small gift bag with sign on the back

-Sign (see below)

How to:

After making the drawing receptacle, make note of different businesses in your area. It may work to go to a

strip mall and ask all the small businesses there. Dress professionally, walk into the business, ask for the

manager and say “I’m doing a fun drawing for women in the area, I’m giving away some makeovers and gift

certificates, is it ok if I partner with your business and set this here?” If the manager says no, tell them thank

you. If they say yes, find a place to it out and be sure your business card is attached. Tell them you’ll be back in

two weeks to pick it up.

Tips:

1. You won’t typically get a ton of names in 1 drawing bowl (maybe 3-6 in each), so it’s a good idea to put

out more than one bowl (I recommend at least 5, but go for 10 if you are really looking to get things

going).

2. Some examples of places to ask: weight loss centers, coffee shops, small restaurants (often you can

even put them in the woman’s bathroom), dry cleaners, hair places, gift shops, flower shops, bridal

shops, sandwich shops, print centers, oil change places, travel agencies, consignment shops, nail

salons, etc

3. Avoid any glass or large containers as your drawing box. Often business don’t have a lot of counter

space so they can’t accommodate anything large. It’s also good to avoid glass so there isn’t a mess if it

gets tipped over

4. Leave them out for about 2 weeks, pick them up and set them out again at another place

5. You won’t necessarily have to buy a gift certificate from that business, but may need to depending on

what you agree to with the manager

6. Tape your business card to the bottom of the drawing bowl/bag so they can call you if they need you

to pick it up.

7. Call the leads right away using the prize booking dialog

8. Put a couple of slips in the drawing—no one likes to be the first to enter!

Honoring Working Women

Description:

Walking around to small businesses and office buildings and handing out flowers to all the women in the office

and offering a drawing for a Satin hands pampering set and some gift certificates (all of which come with a

pampering session)

Materials Needed:

-drawings slips

-pen

-Flowers and chocolates—get carnations from Sam’s Club, small chocolates work

-Cute basket for the flowers, drawings slips and pens

How to:

This is a great way to meet women and can be done over your lunch hour to businesses surrounding your

work. It’s a good idea to dress professional cute and put on your best Mary Kay smile! As you walk into a

business to the front desk, etc hand out a flower to the first woman you see and say “This is for you, I’m

honoring working women today compliments of Mary Kay!! Are there any other women here? Great! I’m also

doing a fun drawing for women in this business complex for a free satin hands pampering set, some

pampering and some gift certificates! Here are some slips for you.” Just hand them the slips and they will fill

them out vs. “will you fill them out?”

Tips:

1. Smaller office complexes or store fronts work best.

2. This is really fun when the weather’s nice, you can go out with a friend, park at one end of a complex

or strip mall and walk outside to each business!

3. Have business cards handy just in case someone asks.

4. CALL THE LEADS WITHIN 48 HOURS OR THEY WILL FORGET WHO YOU ARE!!! YOUR RESULTS WILL

DRASTICALLY DECREASE IF YOU WAIT LONGER!!!!

Fairs or Booths

Description:

Setting up a Mary Kay display at a booth or fair and offering a drawing for pampering, makeovers, products or

gift certificates.

Materials Needed:

-drawings slips

-pens

-drawing receptacle (basket, gift bag, decorated box)

-Sign

-Mary Kay products to display

-Cloth to cover the table

-business cards

-Prize booking dialog

How to:

This applies to any situation where you are setting up a table or a booth, examples include: bridal fairs, craft

fairs, career fairs, holiday stop and shops, expos of any kind, etc. The easiest way to do this is to have one

piece of cloth that you use anytime you need to do a display that is flashy, cute, and reusable. Set up a cute

product display with products you have on hand, business cards, company product fliers etc. Have the “enter

here to win” sign be very large and make two so that it can be seen from all angles of the booth

Tips:

-check the internet, bridal shops, flower shops, mom’s clubs, other direct sellers for fairs or expos that may be

going on in your area. Clothing stores like Dress Barn, Chico’s, or bridal shops etc will often have different

businesses come in also, look around and check with businesses in your local area!

-It can often be expensive to do some of these events (you have to pay a fee to have a table), so check with

your director to make sure it’s a good idea

-WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE OUR INVENTORY AT EVENTS LIKE THIS AND SELL PRODUCT!!!! You can

however jot someone’s information down and contact them later if they need something. You must make sure

they are not using another Mary Kay consultant!

-We are also not allowed to demo open products like hand cream!! It is a good idea to have samples available

that they can take home. Don’t go crazy on this though, you will typically only gain them as a customer if they

sign up for the drawing and you meet with them later, it’s rare someone calls you from handing out your card

-When people walk by you have to be SUPER PROACTIVE!!!SUPER PROACTIVE!!!SUPER PROACTIVE!!!SUPER PROACTIVE!!! You should stand at the edge of the booth

and say “HI! We’re doing a super fun drawing for all kinds of pampering, here’s a slip!”. If you sit behind the

booth you won’t get any results. If you aren’t getting people to sign up you may need to rethink your

approach!

drawing! My phone is__________I’ll give you more details when we talk, THANKS!

When you get a hold of them:

Hi is this ________________This is _________________I was the Mary Kay person (handing

out the flowers, doing a drawing etc), do you remember that? Great! The reason I’m calling is

that you were one of the gift certificate winners from the drawing last night! (let them react).

You’ve won a ________gift certificate with Mary Kay which also comes with a complimentary

pampering session of a skin care consultation and makeover-so it’s a little pampering for you!

___________do you work full time? Great! I handle pampering appointments in two ways.

One way is every Monday night from 6-7:30 I do after work pampering at the Holiday Inn
