Network Rail
Investment as set out in Strategic Business Plan agreed with
Department for Transport (DfT)
Since reclassification in 2014 - Arms Length Body of DfT
We maintain, manage and improve every aspect of the infrastructure
• each weekday 4m passengers carried on our network - last year
there were 1.27bn separate journeys and 100 million tonnes of
freight was transported
• £1.84m spent every day operating, maintaining and renewing the
railway

Oxford Corridor
Aims:
• Increased passenger capacity, flexibility & reduced journey times
• Increased freight train paths available and supporting freight train
lengthening
• Supporting the economy through renewal and enhancement of the
rail infrastructure in the Oxford area, delivered by providing:
• New track layout to accommodate electrification
• Upgrading signalling to Thames Valley Signal Control Centre
• Associated civils works to structures to support new layout

Future proofing for future phases including:
• Additional through platform
• East West Rail 2 aspiration of 4 trains per hour
• Wider masterplan proposals
• Possible Cowley Branch passengerisation
• GWR aspiration for increase in Cotswold line services
