Netweaver gateway / Sybase unwired platformThis question is Not Answered.
Hi
We are running our landscape with ECC 6 / EHP6 and planning to avail the functionality of Mobileapps in our lands cape to improved the busines s process . In specificic, we are not goind to developany special applications but just planned to use apps available by the SAP store @ apple But really wondering what are the things which we ne ed to consider here, so far in the search which ihave do ne, I understood that we need a Netweaver gateway as an addon (Either I can install in ECCor I can install separate abap stack and then addon of netweaver gateway). But wondering about thenecessity for the sybase unwired platform here? My questions are 1. Is that Netweaver gateway functionality alone will suit our requirement?2. Do we need sybase unwired platform for any kind of mobile acc ess o n the sap system or Netweaver gateway add on alone is enough , In other terms for an y kind of mobile ac cess o n SAP -sybase unwired platform is mandatory? Nutshell: Do w e need s ybase unwired platform or netweaver gateway add on is more than enough
for Iphone applications If I am not clear with my statements or requirements, please let me know
RegardsVijay

Re: Netweaver gateway / Sybase unwired platform
Hi Vijay, You would need Sybase Control Center and Netweaver Gateway to be able to use SAP developed
Applications . Check the below How To Guide,
http://scn.sap.com/community/icc/blog/2012/01/16/developing-mobile-apps-with-sybase-unwired-platform-21-and-sap-netweaver-gateway-20 In that, check the section which says, CONFIGURING SUP It shows a step as how to configure Gateway Odata provider in SCC.
Also, regarding your point of Do We Really Need SUP? I think it is not mandatory, if you say generalapproach(No n SAP), once you expose your Odata Service, you wouldn't need to h ave Sybas e toaccess it. Thanks,Shashidhar,

Re: Netweaver gateway / Sybase unwired platform
Hi Vijay, It depends entirely in the type of application. If you are using offline applications(that communicate byMBO and uses synchronization polices it is mandatory that you dispose of the sybase unwiredplataform), your device will communicate with the unwired server that is responsible of retrieving thedata from your back-end.In the case where the application is purely online(communicates via OData(REST service) ) you justneed the gateway which is basically an add-on of your SAP Netweaver server. The SUP is notmandatory. I believe the requirements are specified for each different application of the SAP Store.
I recommend you to integrate the gateway with the SUP.
