Editorial Message

It gives us immense pleasure to issue the third issue of the Newsletter of our college. Our College with the blessings from the Great Almighty has witnessed several achievements in the third quarter of the academic year 2014-15. We are extremely delighted to inform that this academic year has seen Quarterly e-newsletter. More and more happenings are virtually pushing to be included in the e-newsletter. This academic year many inter-collegiate events took place in the College premises. We have set a goal of “Reaching out to individual student.” Going beyond education, bringing in new ideas, conducting seminars, workshops, guest lectures are featured so as to give a better future for the thirsty eager learners. We thank our Principal Dr. Debajit Sarkar for his encouragement and continued support. We also thank our colleagues for their co-operation. We appreciate the creativity of our student Mr. Shahrukh for designing the front page. We hope we will be a pioneer in the education field in the years to come!

ANNUAL REPORT OF CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The objective of Cultural Committee is to enhance the cultural area based on cultural heritage through the

development of cooperation between cultural creators and cultural players. Cultural committee’s aim is to

promote various cultural activities, works of art and motivate inter cultural dialogue. The committee creates a

platform wherein the students may showcase their talents through Intra Collegiate Activities, Inter Collegiate

Activities and Annual Day Programme. During this academic year various cultural activities were conducted

which enabled the students to exhibit their talents to their liking and won many prizes.

A cultural week was organized in our College in the month of December.A large number of Students

from different sections of our college B.Com, B.M.S and B.Sc (I.T.) actively participated in all these

competitions with a lot ofenthusiasm and made all the events of the academic year very successful.

Annual Day: Our college annual day program was celebrated on 23rd December 2014 in our college campus.

Large Number of Students actively participated in various events like Solo Dances, Group Dances, Fashion

Shows, Tablas, Archeries etc. and made the program colourful, eventful and made it very memorable.

Annual prize Distribution Function: Our College had organised Prize Distribution Function on 6th March

2015. A chief guest of this function was Principal Dr.Lily Bhushan, K.E.S. College, Kandivali.

i-Blithe youth fest.... Dec- 2014

AISSA DESH HAI MERA In its sixth successful year, i-Blithe was held on 18th, 19th, and 20th of December 2014. The theme this year was “AISSA DESH HAI MERA...”

With a strong team of 100 volunteers, the students of B.M.S and B.Sc. (I.T.) Sections of J.M. Patel College went all out to ensure the grand success of i-Blithe. The event was organised over 3 days with more than 21 competitions and active participation from 45 colleges from all over Mumbai with footfall of more than 4000 students.

Events held on the first day included Lagaan (Box Cricket), Rangoli, Mehendi, Nail Art, Tattoo Making, Art Attack, Dare to Do Kabbadi, Poster Making and Ad-Mad-show.

Events conducted on Second day included carom (Singles & Doubles) for girls and boys, Chess , Treasure Hunt , Bollywood quiz, Dhondte reh jaoge, Talent Hunt , Tug-of-War, LAN games such as C.S, N.F.S and BEAT BOXING & ALL STYLE BATTLE

Events conducted on third day there were stage events like, Solo Dance, Group Dance and Fashion Show and Street play.

Street Play was judged by Mr. Pravin Kapade, a Marathi actor and Mr.Sagar Wankhade, a well-known Marathi flim director. Stage events were judged by experts and professionals like Mr.Shanawaz Shaikh, Mr.Karan Nair, and Mr.Shashank Dehalikar.

The highlight of this year’s i-Blithe was a guest appearance by Mr. Ketan Kharande, the actor/Body builder recently worked in Bollywood movie “ACTION JACKSON”.

No college festival can be successful without the support of the sponsors who provide assistance in cash and kind. This year our sponsors included New India Bank, ShamraoVithal Cooperative Bank, Saraswat Bank, MICM, FinQ, T.I.M.E., Raj Tutorials , C.A. Kishor Kumar, Jewellers and many more. The sponsorship committee expresses its gratitude to the Management of J.M.Patel College and all the sponsors for their assistance in making the event a grand success.

Under the guidance of the Teacher In-Charge, Miss. Aayesha Ansari, Ms. Rehana Malik, Miss. Shweta Gupta and the Event Heads Mr. Dinesh Rawal and Ms. Vaibhavi Gawade and entire team of i-blithe managed to shoulder the huge responsibility of making this year’s i-Blithe a memorable one.

The spirit was high among the staff, winners, and participants from various colleges.

N.S.S. SPECIAL CAMP REPORT FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2014-15

Number of students enrolled: 150 Volunteers

Details of Camp Site: Diwekar Wadi, Vikramgad Dist :Palghar

Dates and Duration: 2nd January to 8th January 2015 (7 Days)

Nature : Residential

Day 1 - 2nd January

We reached Palghar Station by 12.30. The volunteers had carried their lunch which they had at the bus stand.As the numbers of students were more the incharge of the ST bus stand arranged a separate ST bus for our college from Palghar busstand to Vikramgad. After we reached rooms were allocated to all.There were separate rooms for girls and for boys.

All volunteers were asked to gather in a room.Groups were formed.6 groups of 10 volunteers each were formed.Each group was asked to select a leader and also name their groups.Duties were allotted for sanitation, kitchen and field work.Each group had to perform a street play on the 6thday and a cultural activity.Following topics were given for street play- Drug Addiction, Superstition, Illiteracy, Suicide among youths, Swachhta Abhiyan, Corruption.

Day2 – 3rdJanuary

Volunteers got up at 5.30 a.m. it was quite cold. Still they were ready by 6.30 a.m for prayer and exercise. Ms.Aarti Joshi of S.Y.B.com was incharge of reciting prayer every morning.After the prayer, volunteers were taken for a walk upto the Maritime Training Academy. Field work: The Kitchen and sanitation team remained at the camp site while all other volunteers cleaned the area near the camp site.

Session : A lecture on Entertainment by Mr.Yogesh and James Rodrigues. In the evening,volunteers played Box cricket and later practiced for the street play competition.

Day 3 -4th January

Field work – Cleaning the street of nearby TalukaVikramgad and Building Bund near the dam at Vikrangarh.

Session- A lecture on Superstition by MrGnyaneshMavle.He explained the types of beliefs seen in men and women. He also advised what steps to be taken to fight superstition.MrMavle gave information on superstition and how it can be solved.

Day 4 - 5th January

Field work – cleaning the streets of nearby Taluka Vikramgad

Session- Lecture on Career Guidance by Mr.Suhas Dhanve. Mr.Dhanve delivered a lecture about Career and steps to ensure proper counselling of students. He also informed the students about the reservation related to career by categorizing them.

Day 5 -6th January

In the morning all the volunteers visited at field site. Near by the Dam we make a small water reservoir by using cement bags.

Session- Miss Jigna Makwana gave a short speech on Meditation followed by a quick session.

Day 6 -7th January

After prayer and exercise,except for some students for kitchen work,all other volunteers went to school and performed a street play in market area. Two staff members of our college visited the camp site. In the evening there was street play competition among the 6 groups that were formed on the first day. All groups performed very well.

Day 7 - 8th January

It was the last day of camp. After prayer and exercise, volunteers had tea and breakfast.Volunteers were asked to pack their bags. They were called in a room for the feedback session. Some volunteers shared their experiences of the camp. We left for Palghar with a heavy heart.Reached home at 5.00 p.m in the evening.

This activity has been designed to encourage the students to try their hand at

entering the field of small scale business hence this activity is designed to make students understand the concept of small scale business and increase self-reliance approach.

The activity was spread over a period of 2 days. It was a grand success as students could satisfactorily sold goods and earned profit.

INTERCOLLEGIATE BOOK REVIEW COMPETITION 2014-15 The 15th intercollegiate Book Review Competition was held on 4/02/2015 in Presentation Room of the college. Ms. Deepti Mujumdar, HOD. Dept. of English, Patkar-Varde College, Mr. Sayed Salman, Chief Executive Editor, Channel One News and Lemon News. Mrs.Pranita Kamath, Lecturer in Business Communication, SKM’s J.M.Patel College of Commercewere invited as judges. Dr. Vidya Hanchinal, Librarian carried the function with the help of staff members and student volunteers. Dr. Vidya Hanchinal, Librarian, welcomed the judges, participants and all other members present for the competition and she also introduced the competition and briefly explained the purpose of organizing the same. She also introduced the judges and Principal Dr. D. N. Sarkar honored the judges with memento and flower bouquet as a token of love and respect. Dr. D.N. Sarkar, Principal, in his speech, encouraged the students to take part in such competitions. He also said that even though technological developments have changed the habit of readers but reading physical book gives much more pleasure than e-content reading. He wished the participants good luck. Before commencement of the competition, Dr. Vidya Hanchinal read out the rules of the competition. 33 students from 12 Colleges had given their names for the competition. Among them, 28 students from 11 colleges have presented the book reviews. Ms. Deepti Mujumdar, congratulated all participants for taking part in such literary event. She critically analysed all participants’ reviews and also gave hints for how review should be. Mr. Salman appreciated the students for their stage courage and vocabulary skills. He wished them all success in their future life along with some of his observations about the competition. Mrs. Pranita Kamath, also suggested to choose the book wisely for competition and style of presentation. Dr. Vidya Hanchinal announced the results. The winners were, Mr. Harmit Jasani, VES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Chambur, Miss. Vidhi V. Patni, KES College Kandivali, and Mr. Millind V. Seth, Patkar-Varde College, Goregaon, and consolation prize won by Miss. Vidya Tandel of VES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Chembur. Principal, Dr. D. N. ACADEMIC AUDIT REPORT

University of Mumbai started with the new concept of Academic Report during the academic year 2014-15. The colleges awarded with Grade “A” in NAAC accreditation and the colleges acquired CGPA of 2.5 and above were selected for this audit. Our college responded positively to the new initiative started by the University of Mumbai and submitted the report in the month of October 2014. We are proud to state that our college was the one among the three colleges selected for the Academic Audit .The audit was conducted on 05th February 2015.

The Academic Audit team consisted of the following members:-

1) Chairperson –Dr. R.S. Mali-Former Vice Chancellor of North Maharashtra University 2) Member coordinator-Dr. V.B. Gaikwad-Director B.C.U.D., Savitribai Phule University of Pune 3) Member –Dr. (Mrs) Bina Punjabi, Retired Principal

The Academic Audit started with the discussion and presentation with the Principal Dr. Debajit Sarkar. The members of the Audit Tem evaluated the functioning of IQAC and attended presentations of all the Departments. The Audit team also interacted with the members of Alumni Association, the students and the parents. The Team also assessed the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities conducted at college level. The audit team visited the college office, library and the laboratory.

These are the following aspects about our college appreciated by the Academic Audit Team

1) Qualified, Active and sincere teachers. 2) Enthusiastic students. 3) College has developed web-site which gives seamless operation across all the devices i.e. mobile / tab

/laptop /system. 4) Teachers provide personal counselling to students 5) Fee concession is given to needy students 6) Academic calendar and teaching plans are prepared. 7) Teachers are involved in publishing of books and take active part in conferences and research work. 8) Few Certificate courses are introduced for development of student’s skills. 9) ICT is constantly used and monitored. 10) There is proper accountability and transparent system with regard to lecture taken. 11) Teacher use online resources and library provide online resources access to all the stakeholders. 12) IQAC is functional and vibrant.

The members of Academic Audit Team also suggested the following measures for achieving excellence and for the overall development of the college.

1) The infrastructure needs to be strengthened and necessary resources to be created for development of all the stakeholders.

2) To develop college-industry collaborations. 3) To develop more web-based content and develop more ICT resources. 4) Students feed-back form needs to be re-designed. As well as the feedback should be used for the quality

improvement.

5) To form various associations.

At college level the members of IQAC team will strive to take the college at the next level of excellence.

DATA SPEAK-8 : A STATISTICAL DATA PRESENTATION COMPETITION

Department of Mathematics &Statistics under the leadership of Department of commerce is organizing “DATA SPEAK- A STATISTICAL DATA PRESENTATION COMPETITION” everyyear. This was the 8th year of the competition& it was held on 13TH Feb 2015.

The main idea of this competition is to give students exposure of data handling & presenting the information using simple statistical tools like diagrams, tables & other statistical constants. Students are required to prepare a PPTs on the topic selected.

In his address Prin. Dr. D. N. Sarkar asked the students to participate in large number in next year.

The competition is at the intercollegiate level. It is open for graduate level students. The competition is judged by the subject experts from other colleges.

This year students from 8 colleges participated in 17 groups.

Women Development Cell

Women Development Cell aims to promote the general well-being of the girl students, female teaching and non-teaching staff of our college. Its main objective is to provide protection against sexual harassment of women at workplace and for the prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment. To create awareness about sexual harassment, an orientation lecture was organized for the girl students in the second week of July. A power point presentation on types of sexual harassment, punishments, consequences and redressal mechanism i.e. Online Registration Complaint (ROC) was made by Chairperson Mrs. Gracy D’souza and Mrs.Pranita Kamath. They also informed about the activities to be organized throughout the year.

A lecture on ‘Health and Human Body’ was organized on 12th November, 2014 in association with NGO – Young Concepts India. The speaker Dr. (Mrs) Anita Chavan, gynecologist spoke on following topics: Nutrition and Anemia, Reproductive organs, Contraception and STD’s.

25 students attended a programme –‘Premath Padtana (Falling in Love) organized by NGO – Swadhar on 11th February, 2015.

Signage boards on information regarding sexual harassment and redressal mechanism are put up at prominent places in the college to create awareness among the students.

RESEARCH CONCLAVE-2015

Research Cell organized the first RESEARCH CONCLAVE on 14th Feb 2015. This new event is introduced by research cell under the guidance of Prin. Dr. D. N. Sarkar. The Conclave was organized to promote the research culture among the college teachers. The Conclave was sponsored by ELLEYS’ INDUSTRIES (INDIA) PVT LTD. GOREGAON, MUMBAI. Degree college teachers from different colleges were invited to present their original research work. The theme for the conclave was ‘Management of Environment with special reference to India’. Prof. V. S. Phadke& Prin. Dr. M. Z. Farooqui were invited to judge for the competition. Conclave proceeding was released in the hands of Prof. V. S. Phadke & Prin. Dr. M. Z. Farooqui It was a humble beginning to this new activity. In total 16 teacher participants sent their papers of them 10 participants presented their research paper.

REPORT OF THE ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY B.M.S DEPARTMENT IN THE THIRD QUARTER OF ACADEMIC YEAR 2014-2015

Clay P. Bedford says “You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.” We at J. M. Patel College of Commerce firmly believe this. Hence different activities are identified, planned and executed in order to raise curiosity amongst the thirsty eager learners.

In order to fulfill the requirement of the curriculum, viva-voce examination for the research work carried out by the third year students, was conducted on 1st and 2nd December, 2014. Faculties from Alkesh Dinesh Mody Institute for Financial and Management Studies and Vivek College of Commerce had come to our College for the conduct of the same. The B.M.S Coordinator of our College had been appointed as External Examiner to conduct Viva-voce examination from 3rd December to 8th December, 2014.

Finance and Investment is important arena for the students to know, learn and manage. Keeping this in mind, guest lectures related to these themes were organized and conducted. First of its kind was delivered by FinQ Academy on the theme “Investment Opportunities” on 26th November, 2014 followed by Arimet on “Investment Opportunities” on 16th December, 2014.

On 16th December, 2014 B.M.S coordinator participated in one day workshop on “Specialization inclusion in B.M.S Curriculum S.Y.B.M.S & T.Y.B.M.S” organized by Department of B.M.S, Thakur College of Science and Commerce in association with University of Mumbai.

After the Christmas Break the College reopened on 8th January, 2015.

On 15th January, 2015 the Department of Lifelong Learning of our College conducted UDAAN festival in our premises wherein many students actively participated.

On 17th January, 2015 two students from the third year of B.M.S took part in Research Paper Presentation Competition organized by Smt. B. M. Ruia College. One of them won the THIRD Prize.

On 17th January, 2015 and 18th January, 2015, one of the faculties of Department of B.M.S, Assistant Professor Ms. EswariMaruthuvar participated in Research Conference organized and conducted by University of Mumbai and presented a research paper titled “Bankassurance”.

On 19th and 20th January, 2015 students of B.M.S participated in the Management Festival – “Gladium” organized and conducted by L.S. Raheja College of Commerce, Santacruz (W). Won 1st prize in Street Play, treasure hunt, BolBachchan, 3rd prize in Quiz and won the Runners Up trophy for the College.

On 21st January, 2015 two of the faculties of B.M.S Department, Ms. Shweta Gupta and Ms. EswariMaruthuvar participated in half day workshop on “Campus to Corporate - Industry Academia Interface” organized by We School.

On 5th February, 2015 Academic Audit Team visited the College in order to interact with the teaching and non-teaching staff, students, alumni and the students to verify and certify the various curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities conducted by all the departments of the College.

On 6th February, 2015 a guest lecture was organized on “Effective Life Management” for all the students of B.M.S. The lecture was delivered by Swami Amartyananda, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Port Blair. The lecture guided the students on improvement of concentration power and how to stay relaxed in order to lead effective life.

On 7th February, 2015 the department organized an Inter collegiate “Career Fest-2015” wherein six Institutions participated. This was organized for the first time. The objective of this programme was to create awareness amongst the students’ on various opportunities available after the completion of their respective courses.

On the same day the students of Management Forum of B.M.S Department organized Intercollegiate Management Festival known as Management Festival “Zeal….to Success.” It consisted of six Management games – Business Quiz, Brainstorm (Case Study), Rap-a-Pic, Debate, JAM (Just-a-Minute), Brand Jumble.

This activity was organized and conducted for the first time. According to Stephen R. Covey “Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.” The students were encouraged and motivated to show cause their Managerial skills and Leadership qualities. The event preparations were initiated with the banner making, trophy designing, certificate making, selection of judges and inviting other Colleges from 1st February, 2015. Four Colleges participated in the event.

On 11th and 12th February, 2015 career guidance lectures were delivered by Ms. Heena Punjabi and Ms. Sheetal on Masters in Management Studies involving various specializations. The specializations included Finance, Human Resources Management, Travel and Tourism etc.

On 12th February, 2015 Campus recruitment drive was conducted by IL & FS. Six students were selected out of forty students.

On 14th February, 2015 Research Cell organized “Research Conclave on the theme Management of Environment with special reference to India”. B.M.S Coordinator submitted a Research Paper titled “E-Waste Management – A growing concern in today’s scenario.”

On 21st February, 2015 one of the faculties of B.M.S Department, Ms. Shweta Gupta participated in “Euthanasia: Mercy killing or Mercy Living” conference organized by K. G. Mittal College of Commerce.”

On 26th February, 2015 all the faculties of B.M.S Department, participated in the UGC sponsored One Day National Level Conference organized by our College on “Trade and Environment: Policy and Practice.” Three research papers were published.

The Department attempted out the statement of Jack Welch “Focus on a few key objectives ... I only have three things to do. I have to choose the right people, allocate the right number of dollars, and transmit ideas from one division to another with the speed of light. So I'm really in the business of being the gatekeeper and the transmitter of ideas.” Idea generation, Implementation of the ideas was carried out in the third quarter by the Department of B.M.S. The tradition would be maintained by the future each t ime growing better.

B.Sc.(I.T.) Department Ms. SonalAiwale, FYBSc.I.T student won Trophy and Participation Certificate in “Tackwondo – Korean”, Combat Academy at Mithibai College, Vile Parle West in Dec-2015.

On 15-Jan-2015 B.Sc.I.T student Mr. Bhanuchander Reddy was selected as an Anchor in “UDDAN”, a festival of DLLE, which was organized in our College Campus. Our College student team won 1st prize in Street Play and Consolation Prize in poster making in this festival.

By efforts of B.Sc.I.T placement member, Ms. Pradnya Rane, T.Y.B.Sc.I.T student placed in software industry “i-Gate”, with package Rs. 2.25 lakhs p.a as well as she has been selected in “INFOSYS LTD.” in campus pool organized at Thakur College of Science and Commerce, Kandivali East in January-2015. "MAGC-Multimedia Animation Graphics Certification Course" - Short term Concessional Certification Course Commenced in the month of February, 2015 at very low fees only for under graduate College students of all streams. had visited students and appreciated the efforts put on by B.Sc.I.T department for the same on 16-Feb-2015.

“TECHNOMANIA”, an intercollegiate presentation competition was held on 16th February, 2015, to in collate reading magazines, journals, news articles based on Information Technology. One of the other aims was to improve communication skills and confidence in students .26 (twenty six) students from various Colleges have participated in this competition. Inauguration of this event had done by Principal.

Mr. Vishal Vijayan, TYB.S.c.I.T in house student won first prize (Certificate and Cash Rs. 2000/- ), his topic for presentation was 3D-Printing.

On 23-Feb-2015, "Seed Infotech" associated with MUMBAI University, had been invited to conduct technical interview under their placement activity known as “iKnowvention”. B.Sc.I.T students of all classes had actively participated in it.

A career guidance seminar had been organized on “What after BSc.I.T.” for B.Sc.I.T students, Ms. ReenaDalal along with her team, member if Vidyalankar College had conducted this seminar on 02-March-2015.

Mr. Ashish Shah had conducted guidance lecture taken for T.Y.B.Sc.I.T students in Jan-2015 to guide students for appearing in MAH-CET Examination to be held in March/April-2015 as well as information about filling the application form, important dates for it as well as reference books for preparation of CET Examination are given to the students. All the information uploaded on College websites too.

Certificates are issued to students on 13th March, 2015 who have successfully completed MAGC, concessional short term course held in the month of February, 2015.

Research paper written by Shri. Ashish Shah on “Information Technology in Education” had been selected for publishing in Journal by organizing committee of “Western College of Commerce and Business Management”, Sanpada, for National Conference on “Emerging Trends in Information Technology Management (ETITM)” on 14th March, 2015.

Shri. Ashish Shah had presented paper in ETITM and got appreciation from Principal Dr. G.K. Gupta, Western College and Judge Dr. Tripathi.

The research paper on “I.T. in Education” submitted and presented by Shri. Ashish Shah in ETITM research conference and published with journal number: ISSN: 2231-5063. “Certificate of Excellence in Reviewing “ awarded to Shri. Ashish Shah in ETITM research conference.

Test Series will be given to T.Y.B.Sc.I.T students for each Course of Semester-VI to get practice of writing answers in final University Examinations’ in March-2015.

UGC SPONSORED ONE DAY CONFERENCE ON "TRADE AND ENVIRONMENT: POLICY AND PRACTICE”

26TH FEBRUARY, 2015

UGC Sponsored One Day National Conference on Trade and Environment: Policy and Practice 2015 was inaugurated on 26th February, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at “Sarvodaya”, St. Pius College Campus, Aarey Road, Goregaon East, and Mumbai. SIXTY FOUR delegates (including coauthors) participated in the Conference by contributing research papers and attending the conference, out of which THIRTY NINE presented. However, only FORTY were present on the day of the Conference.

Dr. M.S. Kurhade, Principal DTSS College, Chief Guest, Dr. Debajit N. Sarkar, Principal, J. M. Patel College presided over the function.

Mr. Rajpal Tayade, Convener of the Conference, highlighted the aims and objectives of this conference.

Conference Proceedings was released by the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. M. S. Kurhade, Dr. Debajit N. Sarkar, Principal, J. M. Patel College of Commerce, Convener of the conference, Prof. Rajpal Tayade among thunderous applause.

Dr. D. N. Sarkar in his presidential remark explained about the role of trade in environment. He stated that the environmental policies on trade and vice versa were recognized as early as 1970’s. He further added that Doha Round of conference focused on sustainable development with a special reference on climate change. WTO’s regular work provides a platform for addressing the linkages between trade and climate change. He explained certain technologies such as wind and hydropower turbines, solar water heaters, tanks for the production of biogas, and landfill liners for methane collection assist in the challenges of climate change.

He highlighted that this Conference will throw light on the state of environment with special reference to International trade and policies from time to time and impact of trade on the environment of the world. He emphasized that the Conference will give insight into:

1. Far reaching impact on various sectors of the economy like agriculture, fisheries, forestry and tourism due to impending environmental changes like climate change. These are key sectors, especially for developing countries, which possesses a comparative territorial advantage on the International trade.

2. Steps to be undertaken by such countries.

The Chief Guest in his inaugural speech elucidated on the subject of Trade and Environment, giving an example of how the parliaments and governments are now resorting to environmental issues and how trade has affected the environment. He felt that this conference was very essential and at the right time, and blessed the gathering.

There were FIFTY FOUR research papers in this conference. The theme of the Conference is divided into four technical sessions and in each technical session a theme paper was presented.

THEMATIC SESSION 1: TRADE AND COMMERCE – A RETROSPECT

Dr. Ramling Sable, Retd. HOD, Department of Commerce, SNDT University, Chaired the session and presented the theme paper. FOUR papers were selected by the Editorial Committee and all the four were presented.

THEMATIC SESSION 2: TRADE IMPLICATIONS AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Dr. Savitsmita Chavan, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, University of Mumbai, Chaired this session and presented the theme paper. ELEVEN papers were selected by the Editorial Committee and NINE were presented.

THEMATIC SESSION 3: INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND ECONOMIC SECTOR

Dr. Ramling Sable, Retd. HOD, Department of Commerce, SNDT University, chaired this session and presented the theme paper. TWENTY papers were selected by the Editorial Committee and FOURTEEN were presented.

THEMATICSESSION 4: TRADE AND ENVIRONMENT: ISSUES, CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES

Dr. R. Ramachandran, Associate Professor, Commerce Wing, DDE, Annamalai University, chaired this session and presented the theme paper. EIGHTEEN papers were selected by the Editorial Committee and TWELVE papers were presented.

Dr. R. Ramachandran presented his report during the valedictory function of the Conference and this was followed by distribution of certificates.
