SMS Alert Facility now provides alerts for IPO allotment credits

NSDL had launched SMS Alert facility for demat account holders onSeptember 1, 2007. This facility enables investors to receive alerts for debits(transfers) that take place in their demat accounts. These alerts are sent if thedebits (transfers) are up to five ISINs in a day. The SMS alert facility is nowenhanced as follows:

(1) In cases of debits (transfers) for more than five ISINs, alerts are sent with amessage that debits for more than five ISINs have taken place and that theinvestor can check the details with the DP or on IDeASwebsite, if the investoris an IDeAS subscriber. In such cases, the following message is sent to theaccount holders :

"Securities of more than 5 companies (ISINs) debited from ur demat a/c No ________(Client ID) on __________ (date, dd/mm/yy). Check details with ur DP or on IDeASwebsite if subscribed..NSDL"

(2) Investors can receive alerts for credits that have taken place in their demataccounts in respect of corporate actions for IPO and offer for sale allotment.In such cases, the following message is sent to the account holders:

" ______ (number of shares) shares of ____________ (Company Name) credited toyour demat a/c no_________ (Client ID) on __________ (date, dd/mm/yy) in respectof Public Offer…NSDL"

The SMS alert facility is available to the investors provided they have giventheir mobile numbers to their DPs and the DPs have captured the numbers inthe computer system and have also enabled (ticked) the SMS flag in theirsystem.

No charge is levied by NSDL on DPs for providing this facility to investors.

Great Indian Securities Company Limited joins NSDL as DepositoryParticipant (DP)

Great Indian Securities Company Limited has been made operational as a DPon September 10, 2007. It will conduct its depository operations fromChennai. The DP Id allotted is IN303366.

This takes the total number of operational DPs to 249 and the total number ofDPM set-ups to 327.

IDeAS facility made mandatory for all DPs

As investors are aware, IDeAS facility was made mandatory for all the DPs inMay 2007. It is an internet based facility for viewing latest balances andtransactions during last 30 days. Those clients who wish to avail of this facilityshould contact their DPs for more details about IDeAS or visit athttps://speed-e.nsdl.com.

Display Value of holdings to subscribers of IDeAS

IDeAS Users (Password/Smart Card) can view the Value of the holdings (inINR) on IDeAS w.e.f September 29, 2007. This facility is available forBeneficial Owners only. Value of the holdings are displayed only for listedISINs with the date of the prices used for calculation of the value.

NCFM oriented training programme for DP

NSDL conducts NCFM (NSE's Certification in Financial Markets - NSDL-Depository Operations Module) oriented training

programmes for DPs to facilitate them for the NCFM examination. In September 2007, such programme was conducted in

Kochi, which was attended by 43 persons.

MAPIN Card discontinued as Proof of Identity (POI) for opening a Beneficiary Owner (BO) Account for non-

body corporates

SEBI vide its Circular No. MRD/DoP/Dep/Cir-12/2007 dated September 7, 2007 has intimated to NSDL about its decision

to discontinue with the practice of accepting 'MAPIN card' as one of the documents for the purpose of 'Proof of Identity'

(POI) while opening a Beneficial Owner (BO) account.

NSDL, vide its circular no. NSDL/POLICY/2007/0051 dated September 13, 2007 has advised all its DPs that henceforth

'MAPIN card' should not be accepted as a POI at the time of opening a BO account.

In order to disclose information related to various transactions taking place in NSDL depository system and based on the

advice of SEBI, NSDL started disseminating scrip specific information on its website. Following details are available on
