VALE - ELSIE DEAN Nepean Life Member, Elsie Dean passed away on Sunday October 1st 2017.

Elsie joined Nepean in 1980, she was an active golfer and contributed greatly to all aspects of the club over her long years of membership.

Elsie joined the Committee in 1983 as Junior Vice President, the following year she took on the role of Senior Vice President, she then became a General Committee member for 1 year before spending 3 years as an ex-officio committee member.

Elsie returned to the General Committee in 1989 and took on the role of Club Handicapper in 1992. Elsie stayed in this very demanding role for 14 years.

During this time handicapping was done by hand, Elsie meticulously recorded all scores and calculated the changes to individual players handicaps. There was a members board in the clubrooms displaying everyone’s handicaps which Elsie would change on a weekly basis, she took great pride in her role as Club Handicapper.

Elsie represented Nepean in VWGL Pennant for 6 seasons and had a great love of Pennant. She was always eager to hear the Pennant results on a Monday afternoon from fellow Life Member, Penny Price.

For many years Elsie was the donor of the Nepean Plate Perpetual Trophy.

In recognition of her outstanding service to Nepean, Elsie was made a Life Member of the club in 2006.

Elsie will be sadly missed by all at Nepean.

COURSE UPDATE - from Travis

The completion of the Storm Water Harvesting Project has been delayed due to extra expenses council has incurred which were not forecasted. Hopefully the contractor will be off the majority of the course by mid February. But the total completion date with everything operational may not be until March.

The biggest issue the delay has caused is with the irrigation system. This has left us with low pressure to run the system hence the greens have been struggling through summer. Our staff have had to hand water greens which is a time consuming task taking man hours away from other required jobs. It has been frustrating for all involved and we apologise for the current state of the greens but we have done everything possible to keep them going.

Green fees will stay at the same amount until we are happy the course is back to good condition. The fees were meant to go up at the end of the last financial year.

We welcome any feedback from the club and look forward to working together this year to provide great events and help build membership for Nepean Ladies.

FROM THE TRUSTEES Last December we held our 2nd annual Trustee Tournament - a 9 hole Ambrose competition for representatives from all the clubs that share the Pavilion as their club rooms. Once again we were blessed with very pleasant weather and had a fantastic attendance with every club sending along their President, Secretary and Treasurer or their representative. The teams were a mix of Trustees and club representatives.   Travis generously made a contribution towards the prizes for the day and Nepean President Rosie was a member of the winning team.

Our new Trustee Eli Monger (Dendy YWCA Golf Club member) participated for the first time and assisted with the organisation whilst Lyn Mortimer, the recently retired Trustee, played. During the morning tea a presentation was made to Lyn for her work as a Trustee during 2016/2017. All participants again spoke very enthusiastically about the morning and requested a similar event in December 2018. The opportunity for office bearers from the participating clubs to meet one another and the Trustees is considered to be very valuable.

Our annual housekeeping chores have commenced – gutters are being cleaned, the inside and outside of the building will be professionally cleaned by the commencement of the Nepean 2018 year.  The refrigerator, kettles and kitchen cupboards have been cleaned and supplies have been replenished. The planters and garden bed at the rear of Pavilion have been tidied up.

During 2017 we became aware that the roof of the Pavilion is in need of some repairs.   Also other building defects have been identified. Discussions have occurred over recent months between LMS and the Bayside Council with regards to the responsibility for these works and we are hopeful that we will see some repairs completed during this year.

Best wishes to all Nepean members for a great 2018 on the golf course and do make time to enjoy the friendship of your fellow members after your game in the Pavilion – a facility we are fortunate to have.

Sue Rowell on behalf of the Nepean Trustees.
