ATHELETIC DIRECTOR

4 | Neosho County Community College

Amber Burdge was named the Athletic Director in July of 2011. She comes to Neosho County Community College from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX, where she was named Assistant Athletics Director for Student Services in 2007, and was responsible for administration of the student services support for SFA’s 17 athletic pro-grams. Since she came on board at SFA, Burdge saw 54 student-athletes named to Academic All-Southland Conference teams, with 17 earning First Team designation and nine named to Academic All-District teams. In her tenure, SFA student-athletes represented on the Southland Con-ference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll have increased over 50% to 96, and lead the conference as recent as Fall 2009.

Burdge came to Nacogdoches from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, where she spent the 2006-07 year serving as the assistant athletics director for academics and the senior woman administra-tor. During her time in Corpus Christi, Burdge monitored the academic progress of all student-athletes, while coordinating academic support services for the men's and women's basketball teams. Burdge helped increase the number of Islander athletes on the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll grow from 12 to 58 from Fall 2006 to Spring 2007 and saw nine student-athletes named to All Academic Teams, two being first team. She also partici-pated in the NCAA Champs/Life Skills Program for Islander athletics, as well as handling ad-ministrative responsibilities for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Prior to her stay in Corpus Christi, Burdge spent the previous year at Cleveland State University serving as the athletic academic advisor for men's and women's basketball and at-risk student-athletes. Under her guidance, the Viking men’s basketball team was able to achieve the highest team GPA in recorded program history. Burdge has also spent a combined six years working for academic services at Oklahoma State. During her time in Stillwater, Burdge served as a men-tor for the OSU Academic Services for Student-Athletes, as well as helping oversee the academ-ic progress of the student-athletes and assisting in the Innovative Education course. Burdge completed her Bachelor of Science in Health in 2000 and her Master of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel in 2004 at Oklahoma State University.

About the KJCCCOne of the NJCAA’s most prolific conferences, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference is dedi-cated to achieving the highest goals in the integration of academic and athletic endeavors. Individually, member schools have long been respected for successes both in its classrooms and its stadiums. In all, the KJCCC is home to more than 3,000 student-athletes on 244 teams in the 22 men’s and women’s KJCCC-sponsored sports. The men’s programs regulated by the conference include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, indoor/outdoor track and field, rodeo, soccer, tennis and wrestling. The KJCCC-regulated women’s programs include basketball, cross country, dance, golf, indoor/outdoor track and field, rodeo, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. Entering the 2011-12 competitive seasons for 10 men’s championships and 10 women’s title-attaining sports, KJCCC member institutions can boast of 120 NJCAA National Championships in 12 different men’s and wom-en’s sports. However, the success of the conference from 1990 through the spring of 2011 is unprecedented. Of the 120 national titles, 92 have come during that span, 38 during the 1990s and another 54 in the first 11 years of the new millennium. In addition, 16 of its 19 members have won at least one national championship, and 13 have won two or more. The KJCCC has produced more than 5,000 NJCAA All-Americans and a number of athletes have continued to excel on the NAIA, NCAA, Olympic and professional levels.
