While looking for a new tenant forUnits A&B, Nene Business have leta well known local charity makegood use of the space.

Phoenix Resource Centre is anEnvironmental Charity (self fundedby the Trustees) and has beenoperating since September 2009.

Their purpose is the practice andpromotion of recycling, re-use andreduction, with a difference.

They collect clean usable waste(including off-cuts of material, wood, card), books, surplus stocks, end oflines and unwanted goods/returnsfrom industry and local businesses.Nearly 100% of the resources arebrand new and unused.

Anything that can be re-used thengets put onto the shelves for themembers (schools, etc) to takeand re-use, everything else thatcan be, gets recycled.

They also have a members discountarea where educational aids andchildren's furniture can be purch-ased at very advantageous prices.

Ideal for schools, nurseries, childminders, scouts, guides, pre-schools, playgroups, churchgroups, care homes, charities,

youth groups, hospitals, etc, theywelcome anyone interested in theCentre to visit. So please call, popin and have a look around.

They received the following letterfrom a member which explainshow they help.

“On behalf of Friends of OlneyMiddle School, I would like tothank everyone who works so hardat the resource centre in order toensure that quality resources areavailable to charitableorganisations. We joined earlierthis year and have made excellentuse of our membership whicheasily paid for itself after the firstvisit due to the excellentfundraising pack. The school hasbenefitted directly from projectbooks, card, art materials andstickers. In June, we held a big'Fun on the Field' event wherethere was a giant tombola boastingmany items from the resourcecentre such as place mats, caketins, toys, books, dvds, trays, mixing bowls, perfume, earringsand much much more! We had alucky dip which children of all agesseemed to enjoy and again nearlyall of the prizes were from thecentre. We also had a massiveand very popular craft tent at theevent where children (and adults)

came and made the most amazingand imaginative things. There wasa long table for glass paintingwhere the children used glasspens (our only expenditure!) todraw on large and small glassdiscs and made coasters. In thecentre of the tent were 7 or 8 bigboxes with tubes, fabric, foam, paper chains, plastic trays, boxesand a huge range of card andpaper. The children couldn'tbelieve their luck and just let theirimaginations run wild! The onlycomplaints were from parents whohad to carry these creations home! The event raised over £1000which will directly benefit thechildren… Thank you so much forproviding this service.”

Kind Regards, Friends of OlneyMiddle School.

Drains, Gutters and LightsIt’s been six months since the new ownershave taken the site over. Paul says “due to thedifficult issues that have historically afflicted thesite, basic maintenance has taken a back seat!On arrival we found the foul drains blocked(yes that was the smell in reception), guttersleaking, broken lights etc, etc, etc.”

Under the guidance of Nene Business thedrains are now sparkling. (Oh, the glamour!)The lights have been brought up to standard, the grass cut, the trees pruned, etc, etc. If yousee anything that needs doing please let usknow. [email protected]

Under PressureDid you know the site does not have any watermains pressure? In fact, we need a specialequipment to “make” our own water pressure. These water pumps are called “pump sets”because they are typically made of two or morepumps. So if one pump fails or needs a servicethe others can carry on the good work of fillingour kettles and loos! The old set had twopumps and looked like it had not beenmaintained and was just reliant on a singlepump. (its brother long ago given up). The newset (of three) has been delivered (see pic) andwill be installed at a time to give the siteminimum disruption.
