I had a handful of jobs throughout college, but my summer internship as the NSR Marketing & Communications Intern was by far the most rewarding and memorable. Unlike many internships that require you to focus on one project, NSR allowed me to tailor my experience. I wrote and edited articles for Seedstock EDGE, designed ads and traveled

to two national swine shows to take photos and cover the events via news releases and website updates. I left that summer with a handful of pieces to add to my professional portfolio and confirmation that I had chosen the right career path. I would encourage any student who has an interest in agricultural communications and the livestock industry to apply for the NSR Marketing & Communications Internship. – Megan Sheridan, 2004 Marketing & Communications Intern :: Currently working as theMarketing Development Manager for the Neogen Corporation

Communicate information and promote ideas to NSR members and the public.

internship #1Marketing & Communications

As the intern for the Marketing and Communication Department, I was able to illustrate my passion for the swine industry and my love for creativity through my internship responsibilities. Every day, I was challenged to step outside of my comfort zone and explore different writing styles and design techniques. I had first-hand experience

at shows shooting candid ring shots, creating video footage and blogging show and sale results online. Beyond the countless opportunities I experienced, I have learned essential skills that will set me apart from my peers, and I was exposed to numerous career opportunities. Above all, I was fortunate enough to work with an elite group of people who make up the NSR. Their influence and positive attitude helped me achieve my goals, work harder and strive to never give up. – Holly Hopkins, 2014 Marketing & Communications Intern :: Currently a junior at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, studying agricultural economics

During my time with the National Junior Swine Association, I established a great working relationship with industry leaders, sponsors, breeders and most importantly, members and their families. The staff of the National Swine Registry clearly shares the same type of passion for the purebred swine industry, and to work alongside them this

summer has truly been a blessing. It was also a blessing to be able to speak and interact with the breeders of the junior projects throughout the summer. This internship has provided numerous connections and friendships that I am sure will last a lifetime. All in all, this experience has been a blast, and I am looking forward to taking my newfound expertise into the future.– Tyler Johnson, 2014 NJSA Intern :: Currently a junior at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, studying animal science

I grew up on our family farm and always had a passion for raising pigs and the swine industry, so when the NJSA internship opportunity came along, I knew it would be something that would benefit my future career as a pork producer. Through my internship I was able to travel, help plan and execute events, meet numerous industry

professionals and work with youth who were passionate about the pork industry. The NJSA internship experience certainly strengthened my leadership role as a pork producer.– Rachelle Bailey, 2004 NJSA Intern, Currently the manager of Golden State Genetics in Turlock, California

Through the Field Staff internship, I had the opportunity to visit some of today’s leading hog breeders’ operations and listen and learn ways I can make myself a better breeder. I was put in front of the public eye and given the chance to gain many important contacts and friendships I will cherish for a lifetime. This internship has refined the

many necessary skills it takes to not only raise quality seedstock but also work in the professional setting. As an aspiring hog breeder, who loves to travel to shows and farms, I have gained a greater desire to make not only myself better, but everyone else more successful in their operations. – David Korb, 2014 Field Staff Intern :: Currently a senior at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, studying animalscience

networking opportunities for future careers and friendships, both personal and professional. My knowledge and passion for the purebred swine industry grew immensely during my time in West Lafayette.
