We were delighted that so many families were able to take advantage of the great weather during Friday night's Sundowner. A huge thank you to your P & C for organising the sausage sizzle, soft drinks and entertainment as well as setting up and packing away after the event. Remember to mark Saturday 28 March in the diary for the Movie Night.
Lunch on Friday at Swimming Carnival Families are advised that lunch arrangements on Friday 13 March
will change for some students in Year 3 to 6 as a result of the Swimming Carnival. There is no change for Pre-primary, Year 1 and 2. Years 3 to 6 are asked to either bring lunch from home or money to spend at the Carnival Cafe (see note in P & C section of this newsletter). Make sure all students have snacks and a bottle of water at the carnival. We will not be able to use the online order and delivery service for Years 3 to 6 students.
Congratulations Swimmers in Years Two and Six We have been delighted with the general level of behaviour, engagement, independence and learning shown by our students during the recent swimming lesson series. In addition to the swimming instruction, this was a great opportunity for students to develop skills in the organisation and management of their gear and we saw many students making significant gains during the series. Thank you to families for all of the support and encouragement they provided. Regards Russell Bembridge PRINCIPAL

Do not park in neighbours' driveways or on verges. 2. Parents of children in older years who do not have to be collected from the classroom door could consider arriving at school at 3.20pm when there are more car parks free. 3. All students are reminded of these rules at school, so by following them you will be setting a positive example.

In-Term Swimming Lessons [Pre-Primary & Year 1]
All parents of students in Pre-Primary and Year 1 should have received the information regarding the In-Term Swimming lessons which commences next week in our school pool. Parents are reminded that ALL clothing and personal belongings need to be clearly marked with the child's name. Parking: Please note that the parking on the bottom oval near the pool is ONLY for parents of the Pre-Primary students from Nedlands Park. Parents will be parking there from 2.50 to 3.00pm each day to collect their child from their swimming lesson. The chain across the oval gate will be
locked at 3.00pm each afternoon. Drivers are reminded to take extra care in this area.
Before School Swimming Training
Due to the weekly efforts and support of Stuart Moran, Tony Leaversuch, Jane Collins and the wonderful group of parent volunteers, the before school swimming training program has been a great success this year. This year saw the participation of the most students ever in this special school event. It has been great fun as well as a valuable opportunity for students to train [with their school friends] for the forthcoming House and Interschool swimming carnivals. This is the final week for these sessions. The interschool team will be announced next Friday, 20th March. Two training sessions will be held for the school team the following week: Tuesday 24th March - 7.30am in our school pool. Thursday 26th March - 1.30 to 2.30pm at Claremont pool [details to follow]. The interschool carnival will be held in the last week of the term on Wednesday 1st April. The annual 'Team Breakfast' will be held in the Altius Centre at 7.30am.
National Ride2School Day - Friday 13th March Nedlands Primary School will be joining in the Ride2school and Walk2school Day this Friday 13th March. While recognizing that this is also our swimming carnival, we are keen to join the national drive for active transport on this day. We encourage students and their families to leave the car at home on this day and get a taste of the benefits, ease and fun involved in choosing to ride, walk and scoot to school. We support our students to walk or wheel to school because: * Students feel fresh and alert at the beginning of a school day. * There are fewer cars around the school which eases 'drop off congestion'. * Students are more likely to reach the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity they need each day.
* Students feel happier, healthier and perform better in the classroom.
Special Mention
Ada O. (Yr3, rm15) with the help of her brother Tolu and friends Maddie, Bella and Olive made a
lemonade stand over the summer to raise money for Dolphin Watch.
Dolphin Watch/River Guardians were over the moon at seeing kids wanting to support them and
honoured them last week at a Dolphin Watch training Session.
Jasmine A. is competing in the ocean swim and ironman events at the Surf Lifesaving WA State Championships at Swanbourne on Sunday 15th March. We wish her all the very best for the
competition.
Clean Up Day - Tuesday 3rd March
Nedlands Primary School participated in Clean Up Australia Day. We were one of 2,500 schools across Australia who participated and joined to work together to remove rubbish from our school site. Thanks to the support of the staff and students we continue to make a positive difference to our school environment. Clean Up Day has been running since 1990. This year we celebrated 25 years. It was disappointing that we had to go out for an Emu Hunt and collect so much rubbish from the school grounds on the day. I would encourage all the students to do the right thing and put their rubbish in the bin. Mrs Margaret Parker Site Supervisor

Instrumental Program Meeting
Thank you to the many parents who attended the parent meeting for the beginner students in Years 3 to 5 who have commenced instrumental lessons this year. The school's Instrumental and Choral programs offers the Nedlands students support, encouragement and many performance opportunities. However, the support from home is vital in helping each child to strive to do their best. A more detailed handout [than what was distributed on the night] will be sent home as a reminder of what was highlighted and discussed.
Commonwealth Day Youth Rally - 2015
Congratulations to the Senior Choir and Mrs Conroy for a wonderful performance on Monday at Government House Ballroom for the annual Commonwealth Day Youth Rally service. The special guest at the service was the Governor of WA, The Honourable Mrs Kerry Sanderson AO and music for the service was presented by our Senior Choir, Penrhos Orchestra and pipers from Scotch College. Our students looked magnificent on stage thanks to Jacqui Claassen, Tracey Pearce and their 'band' of helpers who, over the past few weeks, have spent considerable time checking and issuing the Performance Uniforms to over 120 students. A huge task - thankyou.
NAPLAN 2015 Each year, children in Years 3 & 5 participate in the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). This year's assessment will take place on the 12 - 14 May.
