During the best time of the year, cruise to the beautiful, pristine Canadian Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Retrace the routes of North America’s discoverers, generations of immigrants and grand ocean liners across the Atlantic. Arriving on the “other side of the pond,” call at Foynes and Cork along Ireland’s dramatic, rugged coast, and, across the Celtic Sea, at Cornwall, the off-the-beaten-path, quaint English county whose secluded coves and charming villages await discovery. Southampton, a traditional transatlantic voyage port, beckons from the east through the English Channel.

In each port of call, you can choose to participate in fascinating shore excursions or explore the surroundings at your own pace. And if you prefer, you may choose to embark in Fort Lauderdale and cruise to New York City.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime voyage of luxury and discovery. It is an excellent value and I encourage you to reserve now while Early Booking Savings and space are available.

GOLDEN AGE TRAVEL

New York CityThe energy and excitement of New York, one of the most culturally rich cities in the world, emanates from the bright lights of Manhattan, colorful neighborhoods like Greenwich Village and the Upper West Side and legendary Central Park. Experience the tradition of boarding a vessel from the docks of lower Manhattan where illustrious steamships and historic luxury ocean liners began classic journeys across the Atlantic Ocean. Be on deck as the ship pulls away from the historic pier and cruises past the iconic Statue of Liberty and Manhattan’s magnifi cent skyline.

Halifax, Nova Scotia, CanadaThe capital of Nova Scotia and the largest city in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada is also the second largest natural harbor in the world. Native Mi’kmaq people have fi shed cod off the spectacular coast for millennia, and these once teeming waters led to an infusion of European fi shing settlements. Its rich maritime and British military outpost history created a unique entry point for European immigration to Canada and gave this charming city a diverse and fascinating cultural heritage.

During the 1920s and early 1930s, classic lines like White Star, Cunard, Holland America and Orient launched elegant ships that eclipsed the luxury and ability of their Edwardian- and Victorian-era steamship predecessors. Speed, style and service epitomized these grand queens of the sea, which ushered in an unprecedented era of comfort while visiting exotic and romantic destinations. These veritable fl oating palaces were modeled after the great hotels and grand manor houses of European royalty, and passengers were treated to a life of pampered luxury, entertainment and fi ne dining. The passage itself became the embodiment of deluxe travel and the ultimate destination. Today, you can evoke that glorious Golden Age of Travel on a voyage of a lifetime aboard the Six-Star Silversea M.S. SILVER WHISPER that employs the same lavish elegance and endless amenities of a transatlantic crossing.

St. John’s, NewfoundlandSt. John’s is the oldest English-founded city in North America. It was a British base for operations during the Seven Years’ War, the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. During World War II, it was a base for the U.S. Army Air Corps and a harbor for Allied anti-submarine warfare ships. Spanish, French and Portuguese fi sherman have trolled Newfoundland’s waters for centuries and have left an indelible mark on the culture of this spectacular coastal city, once the largest supplier of salt cod in the world and the center of Newfoundland’s lucrative fi shing industry. Today, English and Irish infl uences are evident along the harbor where old Victorian merchant shops and colorful row houses line the wharf.

Transatlantic CrossingBetween port calls in Canada’s Maritime Provinces and Foynes, Ireland, luxuriate in the ship’s Six-Star comfort and pampered butler service. On your voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, rediscover the luxury of the Golden Age of Travel with onboard spa treatments, Relais & Châteaux® cuisine, lectures, complimentary fi tness classes, casino, live entertainment and stargazing. Or, simply wrap up in a blanket and relax on deck with a complimentary beverage of your

choice while contemplating a panoramic view of the Atlantic horizon.

Foynes and Limerick, IrelandCharles Lindbergh fi rst landed in Foynes in 1933 on a surveying fl ight stopover for aircraft crossing the Atlantic. Through the early 1940s, this charming “one lane” Irish village, perched on the southern bank of the Shannon Estuary, grew to be one of the largest civilian airports in Europe. Today, the Flying Boat Museum commemorates the town’s heyday. Nearby, Limerick is situated on the picturesque River Shannon, where ancient streets lead to the well-preserved medieval precinct and the 800-year-old King John’s Castle.

Cobh, Cork and KillarneyMany Irish immigrants sailing to North America departed from Cobh, a beautiful fi shing port and seaside resort. Nearby, Cork, an EU-designated Capital of Culture, is a bustling city that received its fi rst charter from Prince John of Norman England in 1185. Inland are several of Ireland’s most spectacular cultural and natural highlights, including the massive 15th-century Blarney Castle, famous for its legendary Blarney Stone, and the splendor of the famous lakes of Killarney, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The sweeping landscape of open moorland, marshes and bogs in Cornwall’s Bodmin Moor has inspired folklore and legends about the beautiful expanse since it was fi rst farmed over 4000 years ago by Bronze Age settlers.

This off-the-beaten-path Cornish village emanates the quintessential history and heritage of Britain, including traditional Cornish cream tea. Here, St. Catherine’s Castle, a 16th-century fortress standing watch over the harbor, was retrofi tted with anti-aircraft guns during World War II to protect Allied craft gathering in the surrounding waters prior to the D-Day operation. Further inland, King Arthur’s legendary magic sword, “Excalibur,” was said to have been returned to the Lady of the Lake, near Bodmin Moor.

SouthamptonSouthampton has one of the richest maritime traditions in England. It thrived as a commercial trading port for centuries, from the early days of seafaring Saxons and Romans, becoming one of England’s wealthiest cities during the 20th century. This former home port of great 19th- and 20th-century ocean liners remains England’s leading passenger harbor.
