One of the major fund raising activities on which our Church so heavily depends will soon be on us. Arrangements for this are now taking place including the prizes for the “TOMBOLA” stall. I shall be extremely grateful to hear from anyone who would donate a prize for this event. Thank you. Change ‘Change’ is a word that we often dread to hear for it unsettles our order of things but it can also lead to some exciting new possibilities. The Churchwardens and Ministers have, over several months, discussed the pattern of worship that this group maintains and we feel the time is now right to try one or two different patterns. The biggest change will be that as from May, the first Sunday in every month will become a Group Service, beginning with Fleet [which also happens to coincide with their Flower Festival]. This will be at 10.30am. Also when a 5th Sunday occurs we will join with Holbeach, initially at Holbeach, but we hope, in time, that some of our churches will also be used for this service. We will need to put up some new individual notices so that people can see clearly where and when services are being held but I hope that people will give the pattern a chance. With best wishes Rosemary Goddard

GEDNEY CHURCH SPRING CLEAN

As mentioned in the March Newsletter, a Church spring clean has been planned for Monday 11th April starting at 09.30 am. If you are able to come along bringing brushes and dusters that would be great. We had a good spring clean last year during Lent and it is lovely to have the Church spick and span for Easter. As in previous years we shall conclude our cleaning with a light lunch of soup and rolls as a small thank you to everyone involved. Please come and join us if you can - wear your old clothes - some of our spiders are quite industrious during the year, but it is quite fun and we have a good natter at the same time.

CALLING ALL GEDNEY GARDENERS

I’m sure some of you are thinking about your summer gardens, particu-larly now the weather is improving. If you are sorting out borders and splitting plants then please spare a thought for the Plant Stall in May and of course the Flower Festival. Any plants surplus to requirements would be much appreciated. The date of the Plant Stall will be published in the May newsletter.

Jane Webb COFFEE MORNING - WEDNESDAY 20TH APRIL

All are invited to our Coffee Morning on Wednesday 20th April at Kitling House from 10.00 to 12.00. A good opportunity for a get-together and a chat and hopefully raise some money for Church funds. It is hoped to have a bring and buy stall and a raffle. Everyone is most welcome.

GEDNEY CHURCH FLOWER FESTIVAL Just a short note about our Annual Flower Festival. This year the dates will be from Thursday 28th July to Sunday 31st July. Please remember to let friends and family know. Posters and flyers will be available shortly from Church, these can then be given to anyone you think may be visiting during those dates. More details will be available in the next newsletter.

TABLETALK LUNCH Numbers to the lunches seem to be rising slightly, which is lovely. Steak pie, brussel sprouts, carrots and potatoes were followed by rice pudding and fruit, tea and coffee. The next Tabletalk Lunch will be held on Wednesday 13th April at the usual time of 12 for 12.30 in Gedney Church. Please book your place by contacting one of the following:- Jill Duffey -01406 365586, Hazel Horne - 01406 365867 or Jane Webb 01406 363673

CHURCHYARD TIDY A crisp but bright morning greeted the small but select band of volunteers who arrived to tidy the Churchyard on 5th March. Bushes were pruned back, beds weeded and tidied and the last remaining leaves of 2010 cleared away. When all the spring bulbs make an appearance the church-yard should look a picture. A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who gave so freely of their time and effort. It really does make a huge difference. (My apologies for no cake this year – I really will try to do better next year. Jane) Now a request. An appeal for volunteers to help John Ward with the maintenance of the Churchyard. Strictly speaking it is the responsibility of families to maintain their own graves but in practice this rarely hap-pens. The Parochial Church Council tries to ensure that the grounds are kept as neat and tidy as possible. There are already a couple of gentlemen who have taken on certain areas of the Churchyard and the PCC is in-debted to them and John for all their hard work. Numerous comments are made on the tidiness of our Church and its surroundings. John would par-ticularly like some help with the areas on the North side of the Church. Perhaps someone could ‘adopt’ a small patch or help John maintain a par-ticular area. Because the Churchyard is so tidy at the moment it would not be a huge undertaking. Please contact either myself (01406 363673) or John (01406 362661) for more details. William Webb

Churchwardens’ musings

Today the sun is shining, the sky is blue and the wind is biting, well two out of three isn’t bad. As you are reading, hopefully the ever- present wind will have changed direction and be a bit kinder. The birds are pairing up and are less reliant on the food put out for them. They seem to be more interested in the old frying pan full of water in which they bathe regularly, drink often and get indignant if the water isn’t replenished by rain or tap water. They are less numerous than they used to be despite our help, or might it be because of our help, and certainly the sound of their singing in the dawn chorus is very much reduced. Their activity is matched by the activity of the fundraisers for the Church. We are very lucky to have them. They are very busy with various projects. The pan-cake morning in Fleet Hargate in March clashed with other events but even so a profit of £63 was realised and a good time was had by helpers and supporters alike. This month there is a Mothering Sunday service on the afternoon of the 3rd, a cake stall on the 22nd and the Flower Festival from the 28th to May 2nd. We hope to see you at as many of these events as possible as we are depend upon your help and support for the Church. Shirley and Michael
