“It’s been a long time since I’ve had a friend to talk to. Many of my close friends and even relatives got tired of my ups and downs and cycling behavior and moods. So I don’t have much contact with them. PEACE Zone is like my new family now. I have more friends than I can count.” -Anonymous

Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. (our fiscal sponsor) is pleased to an-nounce that they received a $3,937 grant from the City of Evansville Endow-ment Fund on November 13th for the purpose of in-stalling a wheelchair friendly sidewalk and additional light-ing in the courtyard entrance of PEACE Zone. These funds will allow PEACE Zone to make its services accessible to a wider audi-ence and enhance safety of the entrance. PEACE Zone is in the proc-ess of establishing its

501(c)(3) status and cur-rently Southwestern Behav-ioral Healthcare is PEACE Zone’s fiscal sponsor. Faren Levell, PEACE Zone Board of Directors Presi-dent, states “Everyone's path-way in recovery is unique to that individual and we must meet the individual where the need is. For this reason, I'm very grateful for receiving the funds from the City of Evans-ville Endowment Fund to im-prove the community's access to PEACE Zone. With these funds, we can provide a safe and easy entrance for all indi-viduals who wish to participate in the vast array of services offered.”

The City of Evansville En-dowment Fund, a supporting organization of the Commu-nity Foundation Alliance, Inc., originated in 1994 when $5 million in gaming revenue was set aside under the direction of Frank McDonald II to serve the community of Evansville forever. We thank you for this gra-cious gift! For additional information about the fund, visit http://www.alliance9.org/city-of-evansville-endowment-fund

PEACE Zone received a $500 grant from Friends of Mental Health for the delivery of a series of community forums over the next year. Forum topics include depression, anxiety, and mental health recovery. “Friends of Mental Health, Southwestern’s Foundation, was established in 2004 by the late Dr. John Berry and his wife Kathleen to raise resources and create aware-ness of the availability of men-tal health services.” - http://www.southwestern.org/friends-of-mental-health/ PEACE Zone has partnered

with Mental Health America of Vanderburgh County for the delivery of these fo-rums. These forums are free and open to the public. One in four adults will ex-perience a mental health issue in a given year, ac-cording to the National Institute of Mental Health. The purpose of the forums is to educate the commu-nity on available mental health resources in the area and to create awareness for mental health issues. It is also hoped that individuals who need mental health treatment will seek out help as a result of attending.

Stigma in our community and the United States as a whole regarding mental health is still a problem. We hope to lessen this stigma in our own commu-nity with these forums and start moving the community forward in their views of mental health issues. Thank you, Friends of Mental Health for this generous grant!
