TobeapartoftheparadeastudentmusthavebeenanindividualormemberofateamchampioninanNDHSAAsponsoredactivitywhichwillincludethe2015boys’basketballchampionsthroughthe2016girls’basketballchampions.Inmusic,astudentmusthavereceivedtheOutstandingPerformanceAwardasasoloistormemberofanensemble.

Distinguishedstudent,KeatonEricksonhalesfromCarringtonHighSchool.HisfriendsknowhimasFranklin.This17yearoldhasbeenanoutstandingcontributortotheNDHSAAdistin-guishedstudentprogram,frompresentingatthestatestudentcouncilconventiontotakingaleadershipseminarinIndianapolis.AtCarringtonHighSchool,Keatonparticipatesinseveralactivities.Heexcelsinspeech,oneactplay,FBLA,studentcouncil,NationalHonorSociety,Band,Choir,ScienceOlympiad,AcademicPursuit,andStudentCongress.Amyriadofactivi-tiestokeephimbusymostdefinitely.
KeatonstatesthatwhileatschoolhisfavoritesubjectisMath.KeatonalsohasanadmirationforhisspeechteacherMrs.MicheleSeil.Hestatesherimpactonhislifethroughherroleashisspeechcoachandthewonderfulexampleshecontinuestoprovidetostudents,makeherarolemodel.
KeatonisthesonofJohnEricksonandShannonAlexander.HealsohastwobrothersJackEricksonandTreyAlexanderalongwithasisterLaurynAlexander.Inwhatlittlesparetimehedoeshave,Keatonenjoysreading,hangingwithfriendsandhisRubik’sCube.CommunityserviceisalsoveryimportantasyouwillseeKeatonvolunteeratthelocalfoodpantry,aswellascongregationalservice.
Keatonplansonpursuingamedicaldegreesohewillbeabletohaveapracticeupongraduation.Hestillseeshimselfincollegein10yearsasmedicaldegreestakeamajortimecommitment.Keatonisobviouslyayoungleaderoftoday,hefeelsthatbeingserviceorien-tatedisthemostimportantcharacteristicofagoodleader.
ThegovernmentneedstoworkoncomprehensiveeducationreformaccordingtoKeaton,andthatwouldbehisfirsttaskifhewerepresident.Republicannominee?TheperfectvacationwouldbeinCaliforniawithseveralofhisfriendswouldbeidealforKeaton.Healsostateshecouldnotgoasingledaywithoutsinging.Keatonhaslittletoleranceforpeoplechewingwiththeirmouthsopenandheavybreathersashehaslistedthoseashisbiggestpetpeeves.

Rulesclinicsattendance/completionismandatoryeachyearforallfootball,volleyball,soccer,tennis,crosscountry,softball,swimming,hockey,gymnastics,basketball,wrestling,baseball,track&fieldofficialsandheadcoaches.OfficialsandcoachesmayalsofulfillattendancerequirementsbyattendinganyofficialrulesclinicconductedbyanyofthestateassociationsandhavingtheirattendancecardsenttotheNDHSAAofficeforcredit.Therearenomake-uprulesclinics.Acoach/officialmustattend/completeoneofthecamps/workshopspersportasrequired.
Penaltyforacoach’sfailuretofulfillamandatoryclinicrequirementshallresultina$50finetotheschoolforeachoffense.FinesmustbepaidpriortobeingpermittedtoparticipateinNDHSAApostseasonactivitiestowhichthefineapplies.
Penaltyforanofficial’sfailuretofulfillamandatoryclinicrequirementwillresultinadropofalevelofcertificationinthatsportthefol-lowingyear.Ifcertified,youwillmovetoprobationarythefollowingyearinthatsport.Ifprobationary,youwillmovetoineligiblethefollowingyearinthatsport.

Requirements for Local Official include: 1)CompletionoftheNFHSLearn“ConcussioninSports-WhatyouNeedtoKnow”course.Usersmustcreateanaccountonthe
NFHSLearnsiteandpurchasethecourse,althoughthecourseisfree.InstructionsareavailableontheNDHSAAwebsiteattheConcussionManagementInformationlinkonthemainNDHSAAwebpage.
2)CreationofNDHSAAAccount.IfprospectiveofficialhasanexistingNDHSAAaccount,requirementsmustbecompletedusingtheexistingNDHSAAaccountandemailaddress.

Out of Season Coaching ThefollowinginformationisfromPartThree,pages1and2ofthe2015-16NDHSAAConstitution&By-LawsconcerningOutofSeasonCoachingrules:
By-Laws & Board of Directors Regulations Affecting Length of Season, Number of Events, General Regulations, Etc.Pre-season, in season, and post-season participation rules: 1. Astudentmayparticipateinnon-schoolcompetitionfromtheopeningoftheschooltermuntilthebeginningofthehighschool
seasoninaparticularsportandfromthecloseofthehighschoolseasoninthatsportuntiltheendoftheschooltermwithnolossofeligibilityinthatsportorothersportsfortheschoolseason.
2. Studentsmaycompeteonlyonaschoolteamduringthehighschoolseasonofthatsport;alsostudentsmaycompeteasunat-tachedindividualsinnon-schoolcontestsuntilthefirstdayofclassesintheirschoolforthecurrentschoolyear,orfirstcontest,whichevercomesfirst.Violationoftheregulationresultsinlossofeligibilityforsixcontestsorremainderofseason,whicheverisless,foreachviolationinthatsport.TheonlyexceptiontotheaboveruleisinthecaseoftalentedstudentsinvolvedinOlympiccompetitionasexplainedunderSectionIIIofPartTwo,ArticleXIVoftheBy-Laws.
3. Noschoolsponsoredteamsforinterscholasticcompetitionarepermittedinanysportsduringthesummermonths,normayschoolsenterindividualcontestantsinnon-schoolmeets;however,intramuralschoolteamsarepermissibleandstudentsmayparticipateasunattachedindividualsorasmembersofnon-schoolteamsinallsports.Highschoolcoachesmaybeemployedascoachesofnon-schoolteams.
4. Astudentparticipatinginanactivity“outofseason”maynotreceivecoachingortrainingfromasalariedornon-salariedmemberofhis/herhighschool’scoachingstaffinthatsportexceptunderthefollowingprovisions:
a.DuringJuneandJuly,coachesofteamsports(basketball,football,hockey,soccerandvolleyball)fromaNDHSAAmemberschool’scoachingstaffinthatsport(Boys’andGirls’Basketball,Boys’andGirls’HockeyandBoys’andGirls’Soccerareeachinterpretedasonesport)mayinstructstudentsinasummercontestorcampwhohaveparticipatedinacontestasmembersoftheirschoolteaminthatsport.
b. Coachesofindividualsports(crosscountry,golf,gymnastics,swimming&diving,tennis,track&field,andwrestling)fromaNDHSAAmemberschool’scoachingstaffmaycoachstudentsinthatsport“outofseason”providedthatitisnotunderthesu-pervisionandoperationofthememberschool.NOTE:Anynon-salariedstudentteacherswhowerecoachingwhileundergoingtheirsupervisedteachingexperienceareexempt.
c. Baseballandsoftballaregrantedanexemptiontotheout-of-seasoncoachingrulebeginningwiththe2012season.Thisexemp-tionisfromthebeginningoftheseasonuntilSept.1ofthatyear.
d. Boys’andgirls’socceraregrantedanexceptiontotheout-of-seasoncoachingrulebeginningwiththe2012-13season.Thisexemptionisfromtheendofthegirls’statetournamentuntilAugust1ofthatyear.
i.Studentsmayparticipateinsummersportscampsontheirown.However,participationinsuchcampsforfallteamsports(football,boys’soccerandvolleyball)isnotpermittedafterJuly31.
ii.Specialtrainingcampsheldduringtheseasonarenotpermitted.SPECIAL NOTE ON SUMMER CAMPS 1. Memberschoolscannotsponsororsupportsummercampsinanyway.(Mar.08) 2. Schoolsarenotpermittedtopayregistrationfeesforstudentsattendingsummercamps. 3. Theuseofschoolequipment,pads,andthelike,otherthanschooluniforms,atsummercampispermissible.Guidelines Relative to Out-of Season Practice and Use of Gymnasiums:Schoolsmayopentheirgymnasiumsorfacilitiesforrecreationalactivitiesduringout-of-seasonperiodswheninaccordwiththefol-lowingguidelines: 1. Thegymnasiumisopentoallstudentsforparticipation. 2. Avarietyofactivitiesisavailabletostudentsandisnotlimitedtoonesportoractivityonagivendate. 3. Thereisnocoachingorinstructionintheskillsandtechniquesinanysportthatis“out-of-season”underNDHSAAregulations. 4. Thereshallbenogrouppre-conditioningexercisepracticepriortothestartoftheseason.However,anindividualcandothisby
himself/herself,butnotwiththecoach. 5. Participationisvoluntaryandisnotrequireddirectlyorindirectlyformembershiponahighschoolsquad. 6. Comparableopportunitiesareaffordedbothsexes. 7. Theschooladministrationassumestheresponsibilityofmakingcertainthereisadherencetotheseguidelines.Scrimmage Rule: (Team Sports)Thefollowingconditionsmustbemetinconductingscrimmages. 1. Onescrimmagemaybeheldpriortothefirstcontestandwillnotcountagainstallowablecontests. 2. Scrimmagesheldafterthefirstregularscheduledgamecountascontests. 3. Whenmorethan2teamsareinvolvedinascrimmagenoteamshouldparticipatelongerthanwhatwouldconstitutearegular
