Joey StoeckertCould you please give us a lit-tle history on yourself and how riding started for you? My name is Joey Stoeckert, & I’m 26. Born & raised here in Port Charlotte, FL, & I’ve been riding bikes for 20 years now.

When I was 6 years old we used to hit the local bmx track on Wednesday nights for practice and some racing on Sunday. I loved being able to race and be competitive, I guess I get that from my dad, lol. Well, one day my pops comes home with some go karts, I was super stoked, he used to take us to some back roads in north port fl and made a sick little race track. So I remember those day as if it was yesterday. When the whole motocross came about, me and my brother were crusing around racing with each other and out of the woods comes a dirt bike then two, and then the third bike comes out hauling ass, my brother goes to my dad, “lets get some of those”. Coming from the bmx scene, it made me think I wanna be able to hit huge jumps! My pops sold the go karts and got my brother a 1987 CR80 and he bought a 300ex for me and him to ride on. Well that got old so he started me on my very first bike, an xr70. That’s when it all started. Doing hundreds if not thousands of laps around my dads shop. We started going to tracks, doing some races and going to Croom all the time. And here I am today, hit-ting 120ft jumps and doing Nasty whips, just like I used to watch those crusty movies and saying “I wanna be able to do that”! I wouldn’t know how my life would have ended up if it wasn’t for dirtbikes. I wouldn’t Change it for anything!

Being a big part of our Florida Summer Series, what was your favorite shoot? That is a tough question right there, I mean they’re all awesome, but if I had to choose my favorite one I would have to say the DKC segments. What more could you ask for, a private track 15 mins from the house, having equip-ment on hand at all times to keep the track mint, and all my friends hanging out and ripin it up with each other, and having fun of course. Having two guys with cameras that get ridiculous shots and have no problem running around and listening to what shot each rider is trying to get, I felt like I was pro. cant forget the good weather and chillin after rid-ing and using the backhoe to sling each other into the water, that day was pure perfection!

Page 5: NDA Action Sports Digital Journal - Book Three

After years of hounding, your making the charge to the starting gate, what actually got you to agree to racing? So this question gets asked to me a lot, dude why aren’t you racing. I feel its time for me to put all that practice time and going to the gym to the test. I want to prove to myself and everyone that I still have the speed and abilities to run with the top guys in the a class. Obviously I wont be #1 after not racing for a few years, but getting a top ten at the big events and being consistent would keep me motivated enough to be at the top of my class and age group. Cant forget that I love getting those butterflies right before that gate drops.

What is motocross to you? Motocross to me is like surfing to Kelly slater. Its some-thing that I think about 24/7 whatever the situation or wher-ever Im at. When Im on the golf course, I think of how many sick jumps I can make and how many berm shots I would love to hit. Im sure all of us motocross guys think when there driving down the road and they see a hill or ditch or driveway and think, damn that would make a sicckkk jump. Motocross has made me the person I am today. Motocross is separate from everything else, its just you, the machine, and open adventure when you throw your gear and leave reality for that brief moment of not having a care in the world but having fun!!

This questions was first posed to Jack in an earlier interview, but it will be a core question from now on. Whats the mean-ing behind the number 181? 181 started from number 8 when I started racing bmx. I tried not to do what everyone else does and goes with the birthday. The number 8, if you think about it is an infini-ty sign sideways, with that thought it made me choose the number because I never wanted the time I have on my bike to end, sounds different but that’s where the 8 came from. With that said I wanted to be the number 1 rider with an 8 on his plate and that’s where 81 from, after going to more and more tracks and seeing 81 more and more I figured Im gonna be the #1 rider with 81 on his plate and came up with 181. Plus if I do start doing suspension its gonna be call One8One suspension.

In the end, sponsors are what keep things going, who would you like to thank6) I have to say my parents, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where Im at! Love them. Western Power Sports, Fly Racing, Scott goggles, NDigitalArts of course, and all my friends and family who support and encourage me to keep riding and racing. Thank your everyone!

alissa burlesonAlyssa is no stranger to the moto-life. Staring off at a young age, she probably has more seat time than the average rider. With the sup-port of her parents Matt and Vicki Burleson, she has developed the skill to charge around the track and place herself on the podium. Recently having to get surgery done to her arm, she cant wait to get back on the bike. While healing, she remains active in the sport as a race “scorer” for local races, and looks forward to competing in the 2014 Mini-O’s.

One of the main reasons the Florida Summers Video Series even got started is because of the Durty Kurty Compound. We first got invited to check out the facility by Andrew Picciuto, and have retured several times since. Theres some-thing a little magical about this place. From the well designed layout, to the cool waters of the pond, DKC just feels like summer. If you are only there to spectate there is an open screen hangout spot complete with a fridge and lounging area. The track offers some great

sand track riding with a long roller section, rhythm lane, dragonback, a nice table to throw a few whips and a double that stretches over the driveway. Your always greeted by Kandy, the official track dog, and a hand full of friends with throttle happy smiles on their faces. Kurt Traulsen Sr. & Jr. have put together one of the most enjoyable moto-chill spots. Looking forward to hanging out and filming out there again in the future. As always, most private tracks require an invite before visiting.

Back in 2013, NDA and Chronic MX teamed up on several projects, The Life is Moto series, Ricky Renners Road to Daytona, product reviews and 2013 Ricky Charmichael Ama-ture Supercross at Daytona Speedway.

Life Is Moto: Interviews, covered motocross riders all over Florida. Ricky Renner, Jack Sigismondi, Michael Clarke, Kyle Vibbert, Christopher Fortier, and Paul Smith. It was great to work with all of them. NDA is very proud to have taken part in this series.

Ricky Renners: Road to Daytona, covered the training and preperation before reach-ing the 2013 Daytona Pro Supercross Race. Working with Renner is always fun, and we know at the end of the day we had some great stuff to work with. Talking with his supporters like Matt Andruk of Active Ride, Chris Cousins of Race Ready Fitness, friends and family, you get a sense of excitement and enegy surrounding his progression.

The RCSX event was amazing. Getting to watch several riders that Ive worked with out on the center field of the Daytona Speedway track was a blast. Meeting the photographers and videographers that I follow, like MXPTV, Rob Koy, Moto Playground was another great experience. If your a fan of motocross and have the opprotunity, you should experience it yourself.

Working with Christian Chenier and Charlie Biancheri is always great, they both are great guys, and huge fans of motocross. We look forward to working with Chronic MX again.

ROBBEY RUFFNERWhile with Chronic MX doing coverage of the 2013 RCSX event, NDA got to experience the Ruffners overwhelming kindness. They offered a place to sleep for the night complete with a hot meal and great conversation. This was also a great opportunity to get a quick interview with Barney’s Rocket Racing Team rider Robbey Ruffner, on how the weekend of racing was go-ing. (video can be seen at chroncmx.com) Their pit area echoed with laughter and the burpin sounds of their pitbikes, as Robbey shifted men-tal gears and enjoyed the evening with a few

wheelies.

We also got to check out Robbey out at the Vurb Classic during our shoot with Ricky Renner’s 1 ON Won Team in Echeconnee. He was on the

gas and riding solid out in the Georgia Heat.

Recently got to catch up with the Ruffners out at Tampa MX, and Robbey is now a B-class rider

and is looking great on his Kawi.

Their kindness will forever be appreciated.

Motocross, in its simplest form, is one of the most rewarding and challenging sports avail-able to anyone willing to kick start a bike. But, there are only a few that can reach the higher levels of Amateur mx, and even fewer that can grace the Pro playing field. To be successful in this sport is not only determined by luck, skill and stamina, but by a host of experience and a family of sup-porters. In my travels with Ricky Renner to the Vurb Classic in Georgia, I saw one man provide beyond expectation.

Wednesday:NDA met up with Renner early in the morning at his home in Florida. Ricky had already started working on his race bike, loading up gear, and planning a stop at a private track for testing and training for the coming race. His wife Leah had made breakfast, their overnight guest, Chris Fort-ier and I joined Renner at the table as we discussed the trip ahead. After breakfast they loaded up and headed out to the test track where they met up with ACTIVE RIDE’s Matt Andruk to get some suspension work done. Also found at the track was Ferry and Hampshire doing some last minute testing of their own. Later in the day we drove up to northern Florida to the Fortiers and pulled a late night mechanic session getting the bikes ready for the races.

Thursday:We stayed overnight at the Fortiers home, and in the morning Renner began to put things in order. Bouncing from location to location, prepping the 5th wheel and loading up bikes, gear, tools, parts, and various other needs; I stood by watching it all come together as we get ready to hit the road. I was in amazement of how much work Renner was in control of . Once on the road we made

several stops, Evan (Christopher’s good friend) joined the crew, we also had to gas up, get groceries and lunch; Renner kept everything running smooth. We arrived at the Vurb Classic event as night fell. Chris and Evan jumped out to check out the track and meet up with fellow riders to share in the excitement. While they were out, Ricky set up shop - 5th wheel was powered and leveled, bikes were out and ready, and everything was in place. In two days I watched Ricky go from trainer, to organizer, to rider handler, to shopper, to driver, to site set up and its not even race day. We end the evening with a few laughs and tons of anticipation.

Friday:Up early and at the registration booth for practice day. We met up with the Vurb Crew, and weaved around the pits meeting up with oth-er riders at the event. I coasted around the track getting a few shots of the 1 on Won team and slapped a go pro on them which was later used to point out better lines. As the day came to an end, Ricky put on yet another “hat” and fired up the grill and cheif ’d it up. As I laid down to sleep I started counting the different “titles” that Ricky was responsible for and was really impressed.

Saturday:Again, another early start to the day – registration, bike prep, rider prep, and not to mention prep-ping himself for the races; Ricky was on point. At the gate Christopher was set up and shadowed by Ricky. Watching Fortier work his way around the track, in his first supermini class race was killer. He did great! You can tell in his form and composure that he was receiving the right elements to perform on the track. Unfortunately Ricky was not so fortunate. He suffered from bike issues in the first lap that caused him to pull off, or should I say push off…his rear end was locked up and he had to fight the bike to a safe area; not an easy task in sand. In the last moto for Fortier, bike issues started to pop up as well. But to my surprise, Ricky wore yet another “hat” and wrenched on the KTM….bike was race ready by night fall.

Sunday:In the midst of all the madness somehow, Ricky got his bike working as well. He got out on the track to do a respectable finish. He was just shy of top 5. Fortier did the same…which I see to be a super start, being it was his first supermini event…and the talent he faced was no “local” event line-up. Overall 1 on Won did a fantastic job, and did it with smiles on their faces. It was definitely a great weekend of racing and I am proud to have been part of their team.

Ricky Renner is a beast. He took on more roles than I would ever imagine one person doing, and he did it with passion and commitment. His work shines brightly though his rider Christopher Fortier, and I can only see great things in the future for the 1 on Won team.

Sure everyone has to do these things, but to do these things for everyone is pretty damn amazing…not to mention that he also found time to put in a good race himself.

Final words: If you see Ricky announce his services to any event, jump on it! I witnessed first hand that you will receive the pro experience.

TEAM NDA In 2012 Team NDA started off as Aaron Nacua, Chrystal Nacua, Ben and Poidog. It would later grow with the help of Marshall Parr, Lani Nacua and Sarah. It has been an incredible few years and even though there were times of doubt...we continue to grow. For 2014, having Coby Wilson of Aerial MX on board for many of our shoots has been awesome. Great guy to work with and a super talented videographer and editor. Andrew Picciuto is also a big part of keeping our minds motivated, and we thank him for that. So as we

approach 2015, its been great to look back over all the great shoots we’ve been apart of, and now with the launch-ing of our Digital Journals, we look forward to sharing our work with this new form of expression. We can’t thank our friends, family, moto industry and fans enough. Motocross, to us, has to be one of the best sports on earth, and we are proud to be a small part of it.
