María Siguiendo a Jesús: Un Mensaje del Papa Francisco

Animo a todos los habitantes del Continente americano a tener los brazos abiertos como la Virgen María, con amor y ternura.

Evocando la cercanía de María, que siguiendo el ejemplo de Jesús se hace cercana a sus hijos, los acompaña como madre solícita, comparte las alegrías y las esperanzas, los sufrimientos y las angustias del Pueblo de Dios, el Santo Padre hizo hincapié en que la aparición de la imagen

de la Virgen en la tilma de Juan Diego fue un signo profético del "abrazo de María a todos los habitantes de las vastas tierras

americanas". A todas las vastas tierras americanas. Deseo saludar a los hermanos y hermanas de ese Continente de las Américas, y lo hago pensando en la Virgen de Tepeyac. Cuando se apareció a san Juan Diego, su rostro era el de una mujer mestiza y sus vestidos estaban llenos de símbolos de la cultura indígena. Siguiendo el ejemplo de Jesús, María se hace cercana a sus hijos, acompaña como madre solícita su camino, comparte las alegrías y las esperanzas, los sufrimientos y las angustias del Pueblo de Dios, del que están llamados a forman parte todos los pueblos de la tierra. La aparición de la imagen de la Virgen en la tilma de Juan Diego fue un signo profético de un abrazo, el abrazo de María a todos los habitantes de las vastas tierras americanas, a los que ya estaban allí y a los que llegarían después. Este abrazo de María señaló el camino que siempre ha caracterizado a América: ser una tierra donde pueden convivir pueblos diferentes, una tierra capaz de respetar la vida humana en todas sus fases, desde el seno materno hasta la vejez, capaz de acoger a los emigrantes, así como a los pueblos y a los pobres y marginados de todas las épocas. Meditación Sorprende leer en el primer libro de la Biblia la profecía de los acontecimientos que tuvieron lugar en la plenitud de los tiempos. Como sorprenden las palabras de Pablo en los que se compara a Adán con Cristo (Rm 5:12-21; 1 Cor 15:21-22), y los de los santos padres, que contemplan en María a la nueva Eva. Así lo hace San Ireneo, quien comenta lo que nos vino por la desobediencia de Eva, y lo que nos sobrevenido por la obediencia de María.

Salvados en esperanza “Por ti, por tu «sí», la esperanza de milenios debía hacerse realidad, entrar en este mundo y su historia. Tú te has inclinado ante la grandeza de esta misión y has dicho « sí »: « Aquí está la esclava del Señor, hágase en mí según tu palabra » (Lc 1,38).” (Spes Salvi 49)

Dear Church, As you’re shopping this Advent Season looking for the best deals for

Christmas, I ask you to pause and ask yourself, “Is this really the perfect holiday gift?”

I’m here to tell you that there’s a meaningful gift that makes an impact on this world, in our Church, and in our neighborhoods. Far too many of our

neighbors need some of the most basic necessities this holiday season, and you have a chance to give them help and hope.

Please give special thought to the Spirit of the season and choose to give to those who are less fortunate. Today you can help provide a meal, shelter

from the cold or warm clothing for poor and vulnerable families and individuals in your local communities.

To this end, we are collecting cold weather coats and accessories. Please bring your gifts to the parish office from Tuesdays through Saturdays,

9:30am to 7pm.

Christmas Toy Drive

Our Annual Toy Drive for needy children in the area begins Sunday, Dec. 11 thru Sunday Jan. 1, 2018. Please support our drive by placing toys and gifts inside the box located next to the pulpit in both the upper and lower

churches.

Recommended gifts include games, dolls, plush stuffed animals, books, puzzles, educational toys, and sporting goods. (PLEASE no violent toys).

We accept individual gifts, office collections, and cash donations. Ages of children are from infants to age 18.

“The Angelus” “El Angelus”

“The Angelus prayer is a beautiful popular expression of the faith,” Pope Francis said. “It is a simple prayer, recited at three specific times during the day. It thus punctuates the rhythm of our daily activities: in the morning, at midday, and at sunset. It is an important prayer. I encourage each of you to recite it, along with the Hail Mary. It reminds us of the luminous event that transformed history: The Incarnation, the moment when the Son of God became man in Jesus of Nazareth. Every time we pray the Angelus, we recall the event that changed the history of mankind forever.” He then added that not only do we recall history’s most important fact, but we enter into Mary’s response to it with faith and charity. “When the Angel Gabriel proclaimed to Mary that she would become the Mother of Jesus the Savior,” Pope Francis continued, “even without understanding the full significance of that call, she trusted God and replied: ‘Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.’ But what did she do immediately afterwards? On receiving the grace of being the Mother of the Incarnate Word, she did not keep that gift to herself. With a sense of responsibility, she set off from her home and went in haste to help her kinswoman Elizabeth, who was in need of assistance. She carried out an act of love, of charity, and of practical service, bringing Jesus who was in her womb. And she did all this in haste!” The Angelus, in other words, helps us to learn from Mary how to grasp the startling news that God-with-us here and now, to let our lives develop according to His Word and will, and to act on that Word and will with urgency as we spend our day seeking to love others as God summons us to do. With the help of Mary’s intercession, the well-prayed Angelus, perhaps better than any other spiritual practice, helps us to always remember His Real Presence in the Host and with us wherever we are.

"La oración del Ángelus es una bella expresión popular de la fe", dijo el Papa Francisco. "Es una oración simple, recitada en tres momentos específicos durante el día. Por lo tanto, acentúa el ritmo de nuestras actividades diarias: por la mañana, al mediodía y al atardecer. Es una oración importante. Animo a cada uno de ustedes a recitarlo, junto con el Ave María. Con la ayuda de la intercesión de María, el Ángelus bien rezado, tal vez mejor que cualquier otra práctica espiritual, nos ayuda a recordar siempre Su Presencia Real la Hostia y con nosotros donde sea que estemos.
