Finally, there’s the NFHS Main Central Hub--Softballlll.... Great resources for you here. Yourbooks are on this site, as well as a list of thenew rules for 2013. STUMPSTUMPSTUMPSTUMP THETHETHETHE UMPUMPUMPUMP

OK, so there was one new rule that caused abuzz in the classes last week. No, not theglove rule!

We’re talking about the new rule that says, inessence, that the batter does not have to try toavoid being hit by a pitch if the pitch is entirelyinside the batter’s box. The batter will beawarded first base. Some of you wererightfully stumped because you knew that thereis a companion rule still in the book that saysthe batter must not permit a pitched ball totouch her.

Well, the NFHS Interpretation is on the NFHSHub, as well as our NCOA Softball site. Thenew rule IS the correct rule when the ball is inthe batter’s box. Read what the NFHS has tosay about this rule and others.

It’s a big part of the game, so it stands toreason that we spend some time on pitching. There will be a video presentation with somenew footage, and some you may have seenbefore. Be prepared to watch, listen to whatothers have to say, and see if you are correctlyrecognizing all the elements involved.

As always,• Know the rule.• Use good judgment.• Be professional in your interactions with

coaches.
