Overall ResultsIn 2015, the average score of fourth-grade students in North Carolinawas 244. This was higher than the average score of 240 for publicschool students in the nation.The average score for students in North Carolina in 2015 (244) was notsignificantly different from their average score in 2013 (245) and washigher than their average score in 2000 (230).The percentage of students in North Carolina who performed at orabove the NAEP Proficient level was 44 percent in 2015. This percentagewas not significantly different from that in 2013 (45 percent) and wasgreater than that in 2000 (25 percent).The percentage of students in North Carolina who performed at orabove the NAEP Basic level was 85 percent in 2015. This percentage wasnot significantly different from that in 2013 (87 percent) and wasgreater than that in 2000 (73 percent).

This performance gap was notsignificantly different from that in 2000 (18 points).In 2015, male students in North Carolina had an average score that wasnot significantly different from that for female students.In 2015, students who were eligible for free/reduced-price school lunch,an indicator of low family income, had an average score that was 24points lower than that for students who were not eligible. Thisperformance gap was not significantly different from that in 2000 (20points).
