NCAA FIRST & SECOND ROUND MATCH-UPSDARTMOUTH - MONMOUTH SERIES Dartmouth and Monmouth have never met on the soccer field.

DARTMOUTH - NOTRE DAME SERIES Dartmouth and Notre Dame have played just once, a 2-1 win for the Irish on Sept. 5, 2008. At the time, the Irish ranked eighth nationally and got the game-winner with just 12 seconds left in the contest. Two current Dartmouth players contributed to the goal in that game as senior Donnie Surdoval connected on a header from his classmate, Andrew Olsen.

8 IVY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS 13 NCAA TOURNAMENTS ’07, ’08, ’09, ’10 NCAA TOURNAMENTS

IVY LEAGUE HONORS For the second straight season, Daniel Keat (Wellington, New Zea-land) and Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) headline Dartmouth’s five All-Ivy honorees as repeat selections to the first team. Mkosana, a junior forward, has earned his third straight first team All-Ivy honor while Keat, a fifth-year senior midfielder, has also made three appearances in 2006, 2009 and 2010. Three other Dartmouth players were named honorable mention All-Ivy: senior defender Bryan Giudicelli (Emerald Hills, Calif.), sopho-more defender Teo Larsson-Sax (Kalmar, Sweden) and senior forward Andrew Olsen (Norwell, Mass.). Keat, who ran the midfield for Dartmouth, was one of just three unanimous selections to the All-Ivy first team. The senior started 16 contests for the Big Green and tallied nine points on four goals and one assist. He was also named first team All-Ivy as a freshman in 2006 and last season in 2009, when he earned NSCAA All-America third team status. Keat was named second team All-Ivy as a sophomore in 2007 and missed the 2008 season with injury. One of the league’s most feared strikers, Mkosana earned his third straight All-Ivy first team honor this fall. Though his numbers were lower than his first two seasons, Mkosana was a central part of Dartmouth’s offense and his exploits consistently helped free up other attacking players. He leads the Big Green in scoring to date with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Olsen has been named All-Ivy for the third time in his career, previously tabbed honorable mention in 2009 and second team All-Ivy in 2008. As a four-year starter, Olsen has been both a great striker and playmaker for Dartmouth, tallying 39 career points with an even 13 goals and 13 assists including nine game-winners. This fall he ranks second on the team with three goals and four assists for 10 points. Giudicelli has been named honorable mention All-Ivy for the sec-ond time in his career, also picking up honors in 2008. The senior has been a rock on defense during his career, contributing to a staggering 25 shutouts to date. This fall, Giudicelli has scored two goals including the game-winner against New Mexico. Lastly, Larsson-Sax makes his All-Ivy debut after a breakout season as one of Dartmouth’s top backs. In his second year as a starter, Larsson-Sax found his niche on set pieces, also contributing three goals including the game-winner against San Diego.

IN THE CLASSROOM AND ON THE FIELD Seniors Bryan Giudicelli (Emerald Hills, Calif.) and Andrew Olsen have been named to CoSIDA’s Academic All-District first team. The teams are voted upon by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Informa-tion Directors of America) in each of eight districts. Student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative gpa of 3.2 and are selected based on both their academic and athletic prowess. Giudicelli, a defender, is making his second appearance on the all-district first team and it is the second-straight season that Dartmouth has had two players make the team. As a team, Dartmouth was just honored as an NSCAA Academic Squad and the team’s cumulative GPA for the 2009-10 school year — a 3.33 — ranked ninth nationally.

COMEBACK KIDS Dartmouth has proven that it can never be counted out this season. Of its 10 wins, five have been won in comeback fashion when the Big Green trailed by at least one goal: San Diego, Bradley, Vermont, Harvard and New Hampshire. Dartmouth’s lone tie, 1-1 at UMass, was also a comeback game. In recent weeks, the Big Green has won two comeback games in even more dramatic fashion. Dartmouth scored

two goals just over a minute apart in the final 20 minutes against Har-vard and two goals 30 seconds apart with 10 minutes to play versus UNH.

IVY LEAGUE AT A GLANCE For the second straight season, the Ivy League has sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament: Princeton, Penn, Dartmouth and Brown. It is the first time since the 1971 and 1972 seasons that the League has sent four teams in back-to-back years.

AGAINST THE TOURNAMENT FIELD The Big Green has played seven of the other 47 teams in the 2010 NCAA Tournament field including Boston College, Bradley, Brown, Creighton, New Mexico, Penn and Princeton. Dartmouth is 3-4 against the field with wins over Bradley, Brown and New Mexico

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE Dating back to the first game of the 2007 season, Dartmouth boasts a 26-5-3 record at its home pitch, Burnham Field. For the past two seasons, the Big Green has ranked first in the Ivy League in at-tendance, welcoming an average of 1,000+ per home game in each of the last three seasons. Against Brown on Nov. 14, 2008 for a nationally-televised game, Dartmouth broke the Burnham Field record with a sellout crowd of 2,114.

SUPER SENIORS Including two fifth-years, Dartmouth has nine seniors on its ros-ter: Austin Bowers, Aaron Gaide, Bryan Giudicelli, Daniel Keat, Brendan Lane, Walker Linares, Lyman Missimer, Andrew Olsen, and Donnie Sur-doval. During their time at Dartmouth, these young men have been exemplary student-athletes, on and off the field. As a class, they have helped the Big Green to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances and an Ivy League Championship in 2008, totaling 42 wins with 18 Ivy victories to date.

ASSAULTING THE RECORD BOOKS Two current Dartmouth players have already inked their names on the program record books for scoring. Junior Lucky Mkosana should have his sights set on the career records for both goals and points as he was more than halfway to both marks after just two collegiate seasons. As of Nov. 17, Mkosana now has 23 career goals, which is tied for fifth and is 10 away from the record of 33, held by Bob Drawbaugh ‘54. He also has 55 career points, putting him fourth all-time and just 22 points away from Vladdy Stanojevic’s ‘90 record of 77. Senior Daniel Keat currently has 50 career points, in sole possession of eighth place on the all-time list. With 20 career goals, Keat ranks ninth all-time.

TOURNAMENT TIME - MEN’S SOCCER EARNS FOURTH STRAIGHT NCAA TOURNAMENT BID For the fourth straight season the Dartmouth men’s soccer team faced a long wait, but was once again rewarded with an at-large bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament. The Big Green is one of just 17 men’s soccer teams in all of Division I to make four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. All four of Dartmouth’s recent bids have been at-large selections. Dartmouth (10-6-1) will be on the road again this year, heading to #13 Monmouth (14-1-4), which just won its second consecutive NEC Championship. The Big Green and the Hawks have never played before and will square off on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 12 noon. The winner advanc-es to play at #9 seeded Notre Dame on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. This marks Dartmouth’s sixth NCAA appearance in the last seven years, with three straight at-large bids, and the sixth appearance under head coach Jeff Cook. Dartmouth was on the bubble, but its tough schedule and strong finish, winning its last four games, impressed the com-mittee enough for a nod. This marks the second year in a row that the Ivy League has sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament. It is the first time since the 1971 and 1972 seasons that the League has done so. Dartmouth took on Boston College in a first round game last season, falling 2-1 in double-overtime. The season prior, 2008, Dartmouth and BC also battled to double-OT in a second-round game, with the 16-seeded Big Green advancing on penalty kicks. The Big Green lost to Wake Forest in the Sweet 16. Overall, Dartmouth is 4-9-4 in NCAA Tournament play, with Elite Eight appearances in 1990 and 1992 and the Sweet 16 run in 2008. Seven Dartmouth opponents are in the Field of 48: Boston College, Bradley, Brown, Creighton, New Mexico, Penn, Princeton.

2010 DARTMOUTH MEN’S SOCCER POSTSEASON NOTES 7

HEAD COACH JEFF COOKTENTH SEASON • BATES ’89 • FOUR IVY CHAMPIONSHIPS • SIX NCAA TOURNAMENTS

In his 10th season as the head coach of Dartmouth men’s soccer, Jeff Cook has cemented himself among the many greats associated with the Big Green in its 95 years. Cook has led

Dartmouth to four Ivy League Championships and six NCAA Tournaments since his arrival in 2001. The Big Green has won three of the last six Ivy titles (2004, ‘05, ‘08) and made NCAA appearances in five of the last six seasons, including three straight (2004, ‘05, ‘07, ‘08, ‘09). Cook owns a 87-60-27 record in his 10 seasons on the bench for the Big Green and a 162-124-44 mark in 18 years as a head coach. During Cook’s eight years at Dartmouth, his players have received All-Ivy recognition 45 times, including 16 first team selections. A staggering 18 of those honorees have come in the last three seasons, earned by 11 differ-ent players with just two repeat selections. In 2008, Craig Henderson ‘09 became the first Cook-coached Ivy League Player of the Year and first since 1992, taking the honor unanimously. Lucky Mkosana ‘12 was the unanimous Ivy Rookie of the Year, the first since 2002 and second under Cook. The 2006, 2007 and 2008 teams were honored with the NSCAA Team Academic Award. In 2009 (10-7-1, 4-3 Ivy), an injury to Henderson was a hit to Dartmouth’s Ivy title defense, but the Big Green’s solid season still warranted a third-straight NCAA Tournament at-large bid. Dartmouth went to the wire with Boston College in the first round, but the Eagles emerged victorious in double-overtime. Dartmouth’s most recent title in 2008 came down to the wire, with a Penn overtime win in the final game of the season pushing the teams into a tie for the Ancient Eight crown. Penn and Harvard joined Dartmouth (11-6-2, 5-1-1 Ivy) in the NCAA Tournament but the Big Green proved its worth as the only Ivy team to receive a national seed. Seeded 16th overall, Dartmouth earned a first-round bye and advanced past Boston College on penalty kicks, advancing in the tournament for the first time in Cook’s tenure. The Big Green bowed out to defending champs Wake Forest in the Sweet 16.

The 2007 Dartmouth squad had a great run at the Ivy Championship, just missing out to Brown after a 1-0 loss to thee then 5th ranked Bears. Despite not winning the An-cient Eight, Dartmouth posted an impressive 11-4-2 overall record (5-1-1 Ivy) and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. In 2006, injuries to key players and seven one-goal losses prevented the Big Green from securing its third-straight Ivy title, as the team went 6-8-3 (3-3-1 Ivy). In 2005, Cook guided Dartmouth to its second straight Ivy title and its third Ancient Eight crown in the past four years. The team earned its second consecu-tive trip to the NCAA tournament and for the first time in school history was seeded as one of the top 16 teams in the field. In 2004, Cook led the Big Green to the Ivy crown and its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2000. The 2003 team was unbeaten in its first six games and earned a Top-25 national ranking. During the 2002 campaign, Cook led the Big Green to a 9-7-1 record and the school’s fifth Ivy championship led by Ivy Rookie of the Year Doug Carr. In 2001, Cook’s first season at Dart-mouth, he guided the Big Green to a 7-7-2 mark. Despite having a young squad, Cook led the Big Green to numerous highlights during the course of the season, including a 1-0 upset win over No. 9 Wake forest in Cook’s first game at the helm. Prior to taking over at Dartmouth, Cook was the head coach at the University of Cin-cinnati from 1996-2000. He was named the 1997 Conference USA coach of the year after guiding his squad to a 7-8-3 record. He led the Bearcats to the school’s first NCAA berth in 1998 and a national ranking as high as 15th in 1999. The Bearcats finished with an impres-sive record of 12-5-3. The 12 wins were the most by a Cincinnati soccer team since 1989. In only his second stint as a head coach, Cook had a tough road ahead of him. He in-herited a struggling program that was just 37-60-6 in five years prior to his arrival. However, Cook quickly turned the program around and reversed that to a 44-42-13 mark during his tenure. Cincinnati earned a Conference USA tournament bid during each of Cook’s five years, advancing to the semifinals twice. Two of his players earned NSCAA All-America honors, the first such recognition for a Bearcat player. A 1989 graduate of Bates College, Cook began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Massachusetts before becoming the head coach at Division III

Wheaton where he posted a 31-22-4 record. After a 6-10-2 season in 1991, Cook guided Wheaton to consecutive appear-ances in the ECAC Tournament. In his second season, Cook led the Lyons to a 13-6-1 record and followed that with a mark of 12-6-1 in 1993. Cook was no stranger to the Dartmouth soccer program as he was an assistant coach under Fran O’Leary from May 1994 to Febru-ary 1996. Cook also was director of coaching for the extensive Lightning Soccer program in the Upper Valley. While with the Bearcats, he held a similar position with the Cincinnati Classics Soccer Club which included 40 teams and more than 600 players. Cook holds a UEFA ‘A’ license, which he obtained in June of 2005 from the Scottish Football Association. He also holds a U.S. Soccer ‘A’ license and the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. Cook and his wife Christina reside in Hanover, N.H., with their two sons, Liam (12) and Kieron (9).
