SEPTEMBER IS BABY SAFETY MONTH
Many of us are parents and grandparents and the safety
of our little ones is paramount. This year’s focus is on
the importance of using straps on all juvenile products.
Falls are the leading cause of non-fatal injuries for all
young children. Every day in the U.S., approximately
8,000 children are treated in the emergency room for fall
-related injuries.* The following are places your child
could be at risk:
In the car
In the stroller/carrier
In the grocery cart
In the swing, infant seat and bouncie
On the changing table
In the high chair
For more information about how to keep your little one
safe, go to https://babysafetyzone.org/strap-safety.

SILVER ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE IN GREENSBORO
25 YEARS—CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!! The
NCBAA annual conference and Hall of Fame
Induction in Greensboro proved to be a big
success. Members, sponsors and surety
companies all came together to learn from
each other, and share stories of the past
twenty five years. The membership elected
a new Board of Directors at the annual
meeting. Friday evening, three more out-
standing individuals were inducted into the
Hall of Fame and the PAC raffle wound up
with three winners—Felix Blakney, Randy
Cauthen and Mike Padilla. All three donat-
ed part of their winnings back to PAC and
Mike Padilla donated ALL his winnings.
Congratulations to new Board member John
Russell and Hall of Fame Inductees, Joe
Naillon, Ann Stover and Marshall Swaringen
The NCBAA staff were in full force in their
25 Task Force tshirts, always available to
help out during what proved to be the
biggest event to date. Thanks to Erin Shel-
ton, Brian Olds, Angie Bradley, Kaiya Burger
and Donna Meyer for working so hard this
year. Past Presidents were recognized on
this Silver Anniversary and UNCG Head
Coach and former NCAA Champion Wes
Miller presented Janie Shaw with the recog-
nition plaque for former President Joe Shaw
(may his memory be a blessing). The
Greensboro Police Department Honor
Guard were present in their dress blues as
well and the Koury Convention Center pro-
vided an outstanding night of food and
amenities like we’ve never had before.
Thanks also to Jennifer Shipwash—her
services added that special touch to our
event—and the CANDY BAR was a huge hit!
We were very fortunate this year to have
the new Bail Bond Regulatory Division from
DOI in attendance. Thank you to Deputy
Commissioner John Cable and his staff.

AOC TRAINER
CASHIE LEE
VCAP TRAINING BY AOC IS NOW PART OF NCBAA CONTINUING EDUCATION
If you know a bail agent who has been caught doing good deeds please let us know so
we can share that information. There are times in which the negativity of a few over-
shadow the good work of the many and NCBAA would like to highlight the acts of kind-
ness and social responsibility displayed by our brothers and sisters in the industry.
Email us with your stories at [email protected] and help us get the word out!
Many of you have been asking
about where to get VCAP training
ever since NCBAA obtained access
to the program through legislation
for all NC bondsmen/women.
Well that training is now available
through NCBAA’s continuing
education program as part of this
year’s curriculum. Cashie Lee is a
Business Systems Analyst with NC
Administrative Office of the
Courts. She began working
with NCAOC in 2012 after serving
8 years as a deputy clerk in
Sampson County. She has a B.S. in
Business Management from the
University of Mount Olive. She
trains many subject matters to the
judicial community including clerks
of court and magistrates. Her sub-
ject matter area of expertise in-
cludes bonds and
bond forfeitures, and how they
should be handled according to NC
general statute. She has recently
been involved with the statute
change regarding Senate Bill 508.
She worked with NCAOC Technol-
ogy Services Division and Office of
General Counsel to implement the
change statewide. With this, came
modifications to VCAP, which is
the system clerks enter bond for-
feitures, and NCAWARE, which is
the system the magistrate’s pro-
cess appearance bond forms.
