2010 NBAA Light BusiNess AirpLANe Buyer’s guide 2
How to Begin Planning a ligHt Business airPlane PurcHase
While companies that rely on business aviation repre-sent many different professions and locations, they all have one thing in common: the need for fast, flexible, safe, secure and cost-effective access to destinations across the country and around the world. In many instances, business aviation is the appropriate and best transportation solution, opening the door to global com-merce for small-community and rural populations by linking them directly to population centers and manu-facturing facilities.
The benefits of business aviation are clear, but re-searching an airplane purchase can be daunting. How do companies decide which airplane will best meet their business needs?
NBAA is committed to serving those who rely on light business airplanes (LBAs), as well as those who are considering how to fit these planes into their business models. This NBAA Light Business Airplane Buyer’s Guide provides a synopsis of the offerings currently available in the LBA category to assist companies in their purchase planning. The publication is designed to offer not an exhaustive analysis of the LBA fleet, but rather an overview to aid in the LBA selection process.
While there is a wide variety of previously owned aircraft available for purchase, NBAA has limited the scope of this guide to include data for new aircraft that are currently in production. The information, obtained by NBAA from the manufacturers, includes basic specifications and performance data for each airplane. Emerging aircraft models without sufficient, publicly available specification information were omitted from this guide.
For ease of use, the guide is divided into sections according to aircraft size and type as follows: single-engine piston, single-engine piston turbocharged, multi-engine piston, multi-engine piston turbocharged, single-engine turboprop, multi-engine turboprop, very light jet and light jet.
In addition to this guide, NBAA Members have exclu-sive access to the NBAA Aircraft Transactions Re-source, an online reference designed to help potential airplane buyers learn about the various issues surround-ing the acquisition of aircraft, including the purchase process, regulatory considerations, insurance options and financing. Learn more at www.nbaa.org/admin/registration.
NBAA also provides information for Members online about the following topics related to business airplane transactions:
• Cape Town Convention – This site provides an overview of the registration requirements for certain purchased aircraft and components. Visit www.nbaa.org/admin/registration.
• Aircraft Operating & Ownership Options – This site summarizes the various ownership and leasing op-tions available to those seeking to obtain a business aircraft Visit www.nbaa.org/admin/options.
• Tax Issues – This site offers detailed guidance on federal, state and international taxes, as well as on depreciation and non-business use of employer-pro-vided aircraft Visit www.nbaa.org/taxes.
• Insurance & Risk Management – This site discusses various insurance considerations for aircraft owners and operators. Visit www.nbaa.org/admin/insurance.
