• Political group believed that the Treaty of Versailles had to be overturned
• Wanted to combat communism
• National Socialist German Workers’ Party

• Hitler became the “leader” of the party

• A failed coup plot landed Hitler in jail where he wrote a book
• The book outlined his beliefs and goals for Germany
• He declared all non-Aryans were inferior and that Germany should regain its lost lands from the Treaty of Versailles
Lebensraum
• Hitler claimed Germany needed more room, “living space”
Chancellor Hitler
• 1932 Nazi Party gained popularity due to the Depression
• 1933 Hitler was appointed Chancellor and now had legal power
• Immediately took charge and changed Germany (See Fascism Notes)

• Forced children to join the Hitler Youth and League of German Girls
