Every year in March there is a NCAA classic called March Madness. March Madness has 68 teams that qualified in the regular season. They organize these teams with a bracket like this one. In past years, many unex- pected teams have rose and made it to the final four or even won. The lowest seeded team to ever win was a #15 ranked Villanova in 1985. Last year Villanova was the team to rise and win the cham- pionship. They won on a last sec- ond three, but many years before that, NBA superstar Gordon Hay- ward led Butler to two consecu- tive final fours which is one of the best achievements in NCAA bas- ketball history. There have many great NCAA moments, and I think we will have some more epic mo- ments this year to win. Indian’s Offseason Pickups

By: Topher Salek and Carter Malone

Edwin Encarnacion Edwin Encarnacion will help the Indians because he is a power hitter that will fill Mike Napoli's role. He is a first baseman. Last year he played in 160 games, scored 99 runs, hit 42 home runs and 127 RBI’s His batting average was 263. Encarnacion was a free agent from the Blue Jays and he left for a max contract and a chance to win the World Series.

Carlos Frias

We don’t feel Frias will help the Indians because he doesn't have enough experience. When he did pitch, his stats were not great. He is a closer and his ERA was 4.06. This a high ERA and he only played 17 games. Frias was another free agent from the dodgers. The tribe wanted an extra reliever so they picked him up and it seemed he would take any offer he got. I really hope Frias proves us wrong.

Richie Shaffer

Richie Shaffer will help the Indians because he is a young talented player who can be formed into a star player. He does not have an official position because he is fighting to get a spot on the Indian’s team. .Last year he played 20 games, scored 5 runs, got 12 hits, and scored 1 home run, His batting average was 250. Based on these stats, he should be on the team. He got called up from the minors and is get-ting a shot to be on the team.

Did you watch the Super Bowl? Because of the large viewing audience, the Super Bowl is an ideal event for advertisers. These advertisements cost a lot of money, so companies do their best to persuade people into buying. Let's talk about types of persuasion used by companies. The three types of persuasive techniques are Pathos, Logos, and Ethos. Pathos are an appeal to emotion. Some can be positive such as a group of pals enjoying their fa-vorite drinks, while others can be sad, like a crying puppy in a cage. Logos is an appeal to logic or reasoning. An example of logos is an orange juice carton saying one glass of it has 75% of your daily Vitamin C needs. Ethos is an ap-peal to a character or celebrity, like Tony the Tiger in Frosted Flakes ads or a celebrity such as Justin Bieber being in an advertisement. Now, let us finally get to the ads!

Intel: This year, Intel showed us an ad of Tom Brady doing everyday tasks, but they are all of a sudden cool, thanks to Intel's 360-degree replays. I would say that this is a mix of Logos and Ethos. Bud Light: Bud Light brought back an old character of theirs, Spuds MacKenzie. This is an example of Ethos. T-Mobile: T-Mobile had a big commercial this year as they had Justin Bieber star in a commercial explaining the history of touchdown celebrations, starring Rob Gronk and Terrell Owens. This is, again, an example of Ethos.

Super Bowl LI Halftime Show

Mac Wright and Ethan Webb

The Super Bowl Halftime show was a success, but we thought it was very hard to focus on La-dy Gaga with all the people dancing. Her back-ground dancers were following her everywhere. She sang loudly and clearly. People could hear her all the way from the stands. We also thought her costumes were too much. They distracted from her performance. Together we found that she changed costumes between songs efficiently. The special effects were over-all pretty good, the drones (even though it was prerecorded) were great and added to the per-formance. Overall we thought the show was very good.

What is Wrong with Chief Wahoo?

By Nathan Korduba, Jason Formani, and Ethan Webb.

The history of Chief Wahoo goes back about

fifty years to when the owner of the Cleveland Spiders decided it was time for a name and logo change. He chose the name Indians, because an old superstar named Nap Lajoie asked the owner that, if there ever was a name change, consider calling the team either the bearcats, or the Indians. Obviously, he chose the name Indians. Indians fanatic Brad Rica says “Chief Wahoo is like Dracula. He has been smiling with his white teeth on Cleveland for an eternity.” Many people now protest Chief Wahoo, seeing his appearance as “racist”. Chief Wahoo will be moved to the secondary symbol. Now, the block letter C will be the primary symbol on the jerseys.

People think that it is just a racial caricature. The reason that we think that he should stay is that he has been a part of the Cleveland Indians since the ear-ly sixties. He has an enormous effect on fans, and still has people dressing up as him for games. The people think that the big nose is offensive, but it is just a cari-cature! Eliminating the chief will bring sadness to the Indians fans. He still has a part of fans’ hearts. Why do they think it is racist? I mean, it’s just a car-toon, we’re not talking about trying to insult American Indians! Of course, no one has a problem with the

CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS logo! We have a feeling that they only want to protest is because baseball is a huge sport, and the tribe is successful. I mean, people are calling it another version of Jim Crow! It’s not like the owner was trying to make a racist claim, he just wanted a cool cartoon on the top of his team’s hats. He wasn’t trying to start a fight with people. The people who started making a big deal out of this “offensive” cartoon, protested even during the home games in the middle of the World Series. Although we can see their side of the argument, we think he should stay, be-cause he’s a harmless logo.

Spring Training

By Matthew Motrunecs

In spring training there are two

leagues, the Arizona Cactus League and the

Florida Grapefruit League. The Cactus League

teams are the Angels, Diamondbacks, Cubs,

Reds, Indians, Rockies, Indians, White Sox,

Royals, Dodgers, Brewers, Athletics, Padres,

Giants, Mariners, Texas. The Grapefruit

League has the teams of Braves, Oriels, Red

Sox, Tigers, Astros, Marlins, Twins, Mets, Yan-

kees, Phillis, Pirates, Cardinals, Rays, Blue

Jays, and the Nationals. The two leagues stat

in there leagues and play each other. There

are many good teams in the MLB but there is

only one World Series winner. After looking

at last years stats, I think that the Yankees are

once again going to come into spring training

really good and lose momentum once they

start the season because they have a very

young team and they need more team growth.

Then the Indians While have one of the worst

spring training years ever because they have a

lot of injuries coming into the year, but they

while have one of the best regular seasons in

franchise history. I also think that shockingly

the World Series champion Cubs will have a

terrible year because they lost one of the best

closers in the MLB (Aroldis Chapmen) so I

think they will blow a lot of big leads with out

him. Then a lot of teams kind of stay the same

as last year, except the Nationals will finally

have a break out year and make it to the

World Series. I think this because they have

picked up some good talents and Bryce Harper

I think will be great this year. Then the Na-

tionals will lose to the Indians. I think the In-

dians While go 100- 93, and the Nationals will

go 98-64.

Kahoot is a fun educational game site. It asks you helpful questions about the

subject you choose. You have many choices of subjects to learn about. Many teachers may use

this before tests so you can learn all the concepts. I have used it to study math terms I needed to use. It is fun because you get to compete against your friends. This is a very fun website.

Quizizz is a friendly game that allows you to play fun quizzes with your friends. You can look up a test and take

it for fun or for

studying. I have taken tests for religion and science for this. I recommend play-ing with your family to see who is the smartest! You can also make a game for yourself to study, too! This website is very fun to use.

Overall, these are 4 amazing websites to use for school. I would recommend

Five IOS Tech Tips By: Ethan Bartel

Have you ever had to wait for a long loading screen to load? Have you had to deal with those full storage or low battery messages all the time? If you follow these 5 simple tech steps you won't have to worry about all these messages as much. Delete unused apps Although this is obvious, it will allow for more storage for the new cool apps your friends are talking about. It will also help your battery by not having to save all of that extra data. This is one of the easiest and most help-ful tech tips. 2) Close apps that are off-screen This tip will help save a lot of battery. If you’re on iPhone, all you have to do is press the home button two times and swipe up on the apps. While all of these apps are running, your battery is draining. 3) Turn down your brightness If you are in the dark, you do not need your brightness at full. But in the light, you have a reason to have the brightness higher. On IOS you just have to swipe up and slide the brightness bar to low. 4) Turn on auto brightness The iPhone has a light sensor that makes the brightness optimized for the envi-ronment around you. It will save battery and make it easier to see what you are doing. 5) Turn on low power mode when you are low on battery It will lower brightness and make it the most optimal for the battery percentage. It will also turn off if not touched for 15 seconds. Ap-ple released this feature with the release of IOS 9 and has hopes to improve this feature

Four leaf clovers Four leaf clovers are a mutation of the normal three leaf clover. This happens when the mix-ture of genes in the seeds mutate. This is considered “lucky” to people from Ire-land. They always enjoy seeing them on St. Patrick’s Day!

Leprechauns Leprechauns are the little men in green we try to catch with traps the night be-fore. The leprechaun is one of the most recognized figures in Irish history. It is from the 8th century, coming from the word luchorpán, which means “little body” that describes water spirits. It came from an old book that de- scribes mythical creatures. Another origin is from the Irish god Lugh, who is known as one of the “Three Golden Shoemak-ers.” This little man has many origins.

Dying The Chicago River Green You might have seen this one on the news and thought that zombies finally started the apocalypse. That’s not the case. For over 50 years, a few members of the Rowan and Butler family have tak-en a boat on the Chicago River. They then pour top-secret powder into the river. If you’re lucky you might see a lepre-chaun jet surfing in it!

4 St. Patrick’s Day

Customs

Saint Patrick’s Day is one of the most worldwide celebrated holi-days. I’m sure you just recognize it as a religious holiday. It is not just when you get a coin that’s made of choco-late and maybe a Shamrock Shake© from McDonald’s©, but it is actually much more. Today we are telling you how the interesting customs such as a little guy with a green suit came to life. I hope ye’ laddie’s enjoy!

Shamrocks There are two main ways in which the shamrock is apart of Saint Pat-ty’s Day. The first one is that the man, the myth, the legend himself, St. Patrick, used the shamrock. He used it to teach people about the Christian Holy Trinity, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. The second one was said to come from people wanting some Saint Patrick’s Day love. They wore shamrocks on their coats.

Stephen Curry Is he going to be a free agent or stay in the Bay

area?

Stephen Curry, one of the league's top point guards will be having to make a big decision at the end of this season. The Golden State Warri-ors have been underpaying him since he was a rookie. He is being paid 12,112,359 dollars. The highest paid point guard is Russell Westbrook with the OKC Thunder being paid a whopping 26.5 mil-lion dollars. NBA fans have been waiting for this summer because of all the great free agents in-cluding Curry. The question is where will he go?

* * * As an NBA fan I too have been wondering

where the star will land next season. All signs point to Curry staying in the Bay area. He has played 7 seasons with the Warriors and started a family in Oakland. He is 28 years old with a four year old daughter. He has made friends with the players and the organization of the Warriors. You also should think about the cap room. What teams have room to fit Curry into their roster. Sure, teams could make moves to fit him but it makes perfect sense for this star to stay. - By: Zachary Hartman

* * * I am a fan of the Cavaliers and I personally

do not like Stephen Curry because I cheer against him, but I think that he is a great player. Stephen Curry will maybe leave the Golden State Warriors because he will want to be paid more money. He might stay because he is very dedicated to the Golden State Warriors and he loves his team-mates. What do you think he will do? - By: Gabriel Gardner

Kyrie 3 vs LeBron 14 By: Pryce Panchur

Have you ever had difficulty deciding what bas-ketball shoes to buy? Doing the research can take a while, so I am comparing the two newest, most popular basketball shoes for you. The Kyrie 3 and Lebron 14.

The Kyrie 3 came out with its own unique fea-tures that differ from its predecessor, the Kyrie 2. The Kyrie 3 comes with advanced traction and a herringbone pattern that provides exceptional grip to the floor. The herringbone pattern is also used with some of the most popular shoes such as the Kobe 9 and KD 7. Along with that, there are two areas on the side near the toes that make the grip even better. They are placed where a player would pivot or change directions on. This allows the player to make sharper movements that would be difficult to defend. The traction moves all the way up to the tip of the toe and down to the back heel. Now onto cushion. This shoe has little extra cushion other than what the average shoe has. Although you would think players would like good cushioning, some don't. This shoe would be good for the players that would like to feel the floor with little cushion. The Kyrie 3 has a prima-ry color, usually with another color on the Nike Swoosh. Kyrie’s logo pops out on the shoe. These shoes have what looks like grips from a tire on the side. The Kyrie 3 starts at a price of $120. Overall, I think this shoe would be a better fit for someone who is a point guard because you would want to know and feel the floor at all times. Also, because the grip would be great for someone who would want to make quick movements on the court.

The Nike brand added a new shoe to the LeBron collec-tion. The LeBron 14 shoe comes with translucent rubber on the sole to supply the traction. The traction isn’t that bad considering it's made out of clear rubber. There are hexagon pads on the sole which contribute to the trac-tion and also to the cushioning. The pads are called “Hex Zoom.” These pads are about 14 millimeters thick. The main purpose of the Hex Zoom units are to distrib-ute your weight evenly on them when you’re on the court. This helps for initial impacts such as jumping. The LeBron 14 design is pretty much centered around one color. The color covers almost the whole shoe except for the Nike Swoosh outline. There is a strap on top to pro-vide a more customizable fit. The LeBron 14 starts at $175. In conclusion, I feel this shoe would be better for small forwards through centers. The Hex Zoom pads will keep your feet from hurting and provide comfort when rebounding because of the impact.

Overall, your playstyle should affect what shoe you buy. The Kyrie 3 would be better for players who are more agile on the court. The LeBron 14 is better for players who excel at rebound and don’t need to rely on much traction on the court.

The Lego Batman Movie By: Nathan Korduba and Chandler Fronk

The Lego Batman movie was a fun-ny and action packed movie. The movie was released on February 10th, 2017. Chris Mckay directed the movie and Lorne Balfe directed the music playing. The music Batman played during his fight scenes was bad. We thought Batman’s own mu-sic was loud and gave us head-aches. No one knew what the music was. Warner Bros. distributed the movie. The movie was a great Warn-er Bros production and was a great movie for all ages because it was not that violent. We liked that it was about Lego people. It was a great animation and a great movie overall. I hope you watch this. It is great and awesome. We recommend it and we hope you watch it.

Star Wars Rogue One Movie Re-view

By: Noah Ruppel and Jacob Bauer

Students at St. Francis voted Star Wars Rogue One as their favorite movie from the following choices: Star Wars Rogue One, Zootopia, Moana, Captain America Silver War, Batman v. SuperMan, BFG, Storks, Inside out and Secret Life of Pets. Star Wars Rogue One is about some rebels trying to beat the Galactic Empire. A character named Jyn tried to save the entire galaxy. They have to give the Death Star plans to Rebels. The rating of the movie is PG 13. Kids ages 10 - 21 will enjoy this exciting mov-ie. An exciting part of the movie is when the Rebels steal the Death Star Plans. The special effects are great when they shoot the lasers, and the planet blows up. They make the special effects realis-tic. The plot is full of action and sus-pense.The actors portray their charac-ters well. You should see the movie to find out if the Galactic Empire will steal the Death Star Plans back.

Wii U Vs PS4: Which is Better ? By: Mason Bair Have you ever asked yourself, which is better? Wii U or PS4. Well, first, the Wii U is less cost effective. The Wii U costs $299, whereas the PS4 is $295. Not that big of a difference, but now it is time to go into the bigger stuff. The Wii U’s quality is 1080p, which means how many pixels are in the screen. The Wii has 1920 to 1080 pixels across and wide. Surprisingly, the PS4 has the same amount of pixels as the Wii U. The Wii U has an fps (frames per second) of 60, which is good, whereas the PS4’s fps is 50. The setup for the Wii U is actually easy. All you do is plug it in, set up the Wii U gamepad, and then do a couple updates. The PS4’s set up is more complicated. You need to plug a whole bunch of cords in. It takes about 60 minutes to set up, but the Wii U takes approximately 30 minutes. The company who made the Wii U is the HHPI ( Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Nintendo. The HHPI has a lot of experience making games because it is a company in Japan, the gaming country. HHPI also made the PS4 with help from Sony. Wii U games, on average, cost $59.99. The PS4 games cost about the same. The Wii U is good for younger ages because there is rarely any violence in the games. Families can play the games together. In contrast, the games for PS4 contain more violence, so it is suited for an older audience. In conclusion, the Wii is more family friendly and easier to set up, so if you need something that a family would enjoy, and then the Wii U is right for you.

Ps4 vs Wii U

By: Aiden Fox Which console would you prefer to use the PS4 or the Wii U? I think the PS4 is better than the Wii U because the PS4 has a remote play control. If you have a PS vita, you can put the screen of your PS4 onto your PS Vita. The Wii U has something similar, but the controller that comes with the con-sole is a very bulky for a controller and is very uncomfortable to use. You would have to buy another controller if you wanted to use it comfortably. The PS4 has frames per second of 60 almost 100% of the time, but the Wii u has limited fps. With the PS4, you can also watch Netflix and other similar streaming services without having a PlayStation Plus subscription. However, with the Wii, you cannot watch Netflix without downloading the app. Play Station Plus offers low-er prices on some games and free game downloads if you buy the membership. The Wii does not have anything simi-lar. PlayStation 4 is built with a 500GB hard drive compared to the Wii U’s shockingly low hard drive of 32GB. I think this was a poor choice of Nintendo since it probably lowered the quality of the games. You can mostly do everything on the PS4 that you could do on a smart TV, but with the Wii U, there is not much you can do besides playing games. I think the PS4 is a great console for most people and once you start playing you cannot stop having fun.

Pc Gaming vs Console Gaming

By: Evan Buchholz Which is better: the Pc or the console? The Pc is better in many ways. Pc gamers can very easily upgrade their components in their pc. Console gamers cannot upgrade

their components in their console, so they have to wait for a new console to be invented. Pc gamers can change their graphics settings while playing the game. Console gamers, on the other hand, cannot change their settings while playing. Console gamers have their graphics already optimized for the game they are playing, while Pc gamers have to optimize their game. You can build a Pc that performs better than a con-sole for the same amount of money or less. Most Console games are capped at 30 frames per second or 60 frames per second, but with Pc games, they are not capped on fps. Gamers will have a better time with the Pc. They can easily upgrade it, it performs better, and the frames

are not capped. The better choice would be the Pc, not the console.

Lala and Gaga’s Best Day Ever!

By Madison C. and Elizabeth G.

It was a sunny day. Gaga and I were sitting in our cages, at Petco, bored.

We aren’t like normal hamsters anymore. A mean scientist with a white vest and

grey hair tried to make us evil, but something went wrong in the process, and

now we look like ugly, little clowns. Maybe even miniature pterodactyls. We have

pointy noses, weird hair and big bodies with little arms. “We’re never going to get

adopted because we look like little clowns!” said Gaga. We’re miniature monsters

for all to see. But we didn’t know that this would be the best day of me and Ga-

ga’s life until Chrystal and Justin came running into Petco with their mom. We

didn’t realize they were looking at us. When we turned around, we realized they

weren’t looking at us with a disgusted face like everyone else. Then someone

grabbed us. It was a girl with very blond, curly hair. The girl said, “Oh my gosh!

It’s so…” We thought she was going to say “ugly”, but instead she said something

no one had ever said about us before, “It’s so cute!” She MEANT it! Soon enough

we were in a car with Justin and Chrystal. We were so happy! We couldn’t be-

lieve it! It was the best feeling in the world! “Lala we did it! We got adopted!” Ga-
