a boat, propelled by oars or a motor, used for rescuing people at sea, escaping from

a sinking ship, etc.

Lifeboat

the roof of the cabin on the back part of the ship. It is derived from the French word for stern “la poupe.” A poop deck is basically the stern deck of the ship.

Poop deck

a round, window-like opening with a hinged, watertight glass cover in the side of a vessel for letting in air and light.

porthole

an upper covered deck of a passenger ship for the use of the passengers

Promenade deck

A flat piece of wood or metal hinged vertically to the rear end of a boat or ship and used to steer it.

rudder

The rear part of a vessel, opposite the bow

stern

an apparatus for transmitting and receiving orders between the bridge of a ship and the engine room

telegraph

a device having a revolving hub with blades, for propelling (moving) an airplane, ship, etc.

propeller

Another name for the front part or bow of a ship

prow

Part of the upper deck between the mainmast and the stern, used especially by officers of a ship

Quarter deck

Instrument for determining the distance, direction, speed, etc., of unseen objects by the reflection of radio waves.

radar

The body or frame of a ship
