Sensors Overview

Nautic Alert XPulse and XPulse Plus add additional applications to Insight, which includes 4 battery

banks, AC Shore power monitoring, 4-zone security interface with supervision support, battery backup

and power redundancy, and a siren interface*. * See XPulse documentation for more information and

feature availability.

XPulse is designed to operate with existing or Nautic Alert pre-certified hardwired 12V tolerant N.O or

N.C. standard security sensors. N.O. sensors can be wired together in a single zone. Wiring described

here uses standard 4-conductor alarm wiring available from most hardware stores.

XPusle Plus is designed to add wireless security and safety sensors. With XPulse Plus, installation is a

breeze. Nautic Alert pre-programs sensors and zones, so when you receive your system, everything is

ready to go once you mount your security and safety sensors. Each XPulse Plus can support up to 32

wireless sensors, which then are mapped to one of four alarm zones. Wireless sensors are supervised,

meaning low-battery, inactivity, and tamper detection events send notifications. Expected battery life

of wireless sensors is 3-5 years, MOB is 1-2 years.

Security and safety sensors include outdoor and indoor motion, smoke, door/hatch contacts, and one or

more man-overboard (MOB) sensor, and others. See www.nauticalert.com for details.

Insight can support up to two XPulse units, in any combination (XPulse/XPulse Plus), giving a total of 8

security zones, 8 battery banks, and 2 shore powers.

Nautic alert features next-gen outdoor and indoor microwave and PIR (passive-infrared) technology

options that work together to overcome the harshest factors that often reduce reliability of standalone

PIR motion technology. Swaying lines and halyards, open cabin doors and strong marine air

conditioners, vibration, and drastic temperature changes that produce large amount of thermal energy

can degrade the operation of traditional PIR sensors, making them produce false-positive or missed

alerts. Microwave technology enables a sensor to see objects and reject false alerts in this environment,

while increasing reliability of detected events.

Outdoor Microwave VXI-RDAMi-R and VXI-DAM-R The outdoor microwave detector is a low-mount, highly-precise and rugged sensor offered in hardwired (for XPulse) or battery-powered and wireless (for XPulse Plus) configurations. Setting up this sensor involves mounting, setting the detection angle, distance, and configuration settings. Note: The hardwired version of this sensor can be lower-profile than the wireless version if not used with the optional back box. Note: Additional mounting considerations and options exist, and the Optex sensor manual should also be consulted in addition to this quick start guide.

Detector Wiring/Battery Note: the back box is optional on hardwired sensor.

Warning: Always remove power before opening the sensor on the hardwired sensor.

Remove diagonal screw from bottom side of cover unit, and rotate the cover away from the assembly from the bottom.

For wireless model, pry back box cap (A) off of top of unit

Remove top and bottom screws on circuit board to remove circuit board (C) and access back box (B)

For wireless model, battery is located in the battery box

For hardwired models, pass wiring through mounting plate (E), back box (D), and circuit board (C)

Note: The wireless version uses a 123A 3V lithium battery, expected battery life is 4 years.

The sensor can be wall or pole mounted as shown below, and should be located at a height above the

ground such that both high and low detectors simultaneously detect an object. On the hardwired

version, the back box (E) can be used if it’s more preferable to use the bottom knock-out for wiring.

Detection Angle When mounting the detector, the detectors can swivel inside of the sensor housing to compensate for

any mounting difficulties as shown below:

Additionally, it may be necessary to mask the detection field-of-view, if for example, a more precise

detection field-of-view is needed. This can be particularly useful when trying to mask movement on a

nearby dock or neighboring boat.

Remove knock-out portion of lower-

lens if applying any masking patterns

shown here.

Page 8

Detection Distance The detection range should be adjusted based on the installation parameters, and used in combination

with microwave enabled.

Note: Distance settings requires adjusting both the lower lens slide and microwave sensitivity

adjustment dial as shown below.

It is highly recommended to perform detection range testing by enabling the LED and disabling power

savings mode.

Note: Always enable power savings mode when not testing on the wireless sensor or battery life will

be significantly impacted.

Note: Very large objects, such as a moving boat, can cause triggers outside of the detection range if

the object trips both upper and lower detection beams. Ensure the lower lens slide angle is set

conservatively.

Indoor Hardwired Microwave MX-40PI-T5

The MX-40PI-T5 is an advanced indoors microwave sensor ideal for the harsh factors seen in boats,

especially with cabins containing high-velocity air-conditioners, open and drafty cabin doors, swaying

curtains/lanterns, etc…

MX-40PI-T5 Mounting

To open the sensor, remove the bottom screw and gently separate the front from the back.

The PCB unit should be removed first to expose the various knockout positions on the back of the sensor

to be used for wiring. The knockouts can be easily removed with a small screwdriver and firm tap.

Warning: Do not touch the microwave element on the PCB, and always remove power first before

opening the sensor’s enclosure.

The MX-40PI-T5is available with an optional

wall/ceiling mount. It provides adjustable +/-45

degrees horizontally, 0-10 degrees vertically.

Indoor Wireless EN1261-HT-M

The EN1261-HT-M features increased protection from common false alarm triggers such as vibration,

static, lightning, and ambient temperature changes, making it an excellent sensor for semi-harsh boat

interiors. It also features an adjustable sensitivity setting that can be easily changed, if ever needed.

Once the EN1261-HT-M detects motion, it will not detect motion again for another 3 minutes, enabling

exceptional battery life.

It should not be necessary to adjust the sensitivity knob in most installations.

The EN1261-HT-M uses a 3V BAT610 battery.
