Nature: Super Cats, A Nature MiniseriesWednesdays at 7pm, October 24th – November 7th
There is a change coming for Truth or Consequences viewers who watch KRWG-TV channel 40 and Deming view-ers who watch KRWG-TV channels 46 and 49 over the air. On or about October 15th, we’ll be making a change in Truth or Consequences, moving to channel 33. On or about October 15th, we’ll move to channels 24 and 29 in Deming. This change affects over-the-air viewers only. There will be no changes for viewers on cable or satellite systems. Channels and dates are yet to be finalized so please visit krwg.org/channel-updates for the most cur-rent information. The information above is our proposal to the Federal Communications Commission, who will assign our new channels in the near future. Once the changes are complete, over-the-air viewers will have to reprogram their TVs in order to receive our new channels. This procedure varies depending on the model of the TV, but it is usually located in the menu of the TV under “auto program” or “setup” or something along those lines.
If you have questions, please call 575-646-2222.

RED-CHILE BRAISED PORK BELLY WITH GREENSRECIPE COURTESY OF: MEXICO--ONE PLATE AT A TIME
WITH RICK BAYLESSTUNE IN: SUNDAYS AT 4:30PM
Ingredients• 4 1/2pounds pork belly, cut into 4 equal
portions• 4 dried guajillo chiles, stemmed, seeded
and torn into large pieces• 3 cloves garlic, peeled• 1 tablespoon cider vinegar• 1 tablespoon dark brown sugar• 1 teaspoon salt• 1 canned chipotle chile en adobo• 1 teaspoon dried Mexican oregano• 1 tablespoon vegetable or olive oil• 2 medium bunches greens, stems removed, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch strips (about 8 cups)• 1/4 cup chopped chives, for garnish• A few slices white onion, for garnish
Instructions1. Make the red chile marinade: In a blender jar, add 2 cups of water along with the guajillo, garlic,
vinegar, brown sugar, salt, chipotle chiles and oregano. Blend to a smooth puree. Pour through a medium-mesh strainer into the slow cooker. Add in the pieces of pork belly.
2. Cover and turn on the slow cooker to high and cook for 4 hours. (My slow-cooker can be programmed to switch to a “keep warm” temperature for up to another 6 hours. Some slow cookers click to “keep warm” automatically; others need to be switched manually.)
3. Remove the pork from the marinade and place on a paper-towel lined sheet pan or baking dish. Place more paper towels on top of the belly and weigh the belly down with a heavy dish or platter. Allow the marinade to cool before placing in a sealed container. Keep both in your refrigerator overnight.
4. Remove the weighted pork belly and marinade from the refrigerator. Spoon away the layer of fat that has separated from the marinade.
5. Film a large (12-inch) skillet with oil and set over medium-high heat. When hot, add the red chile marinating liquid. Cook, stirring nearly constantly, until the consistency of tomato paste, about 4 minutes. Taste and season with salt if needed. Add the greens and cook until just wilted 7-8 minutes.
6. Lightly film a large (12-inch) heavy-bottomed skillet with oil and set over medium-high heat. Place the belly in the skillet skin side down, allowing to skin to brown, about 5 minutes. Using tongs, flip the belly and cook an additional 5 minutes to brown and warm through.
7. Spoon the greens and all of the chile sauce into a large serving platter. Lay the pork belly pieces over the top of the greens and garnish with sliced white onions and chives.

MEET KRWG’S NEW DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENTQ: Why is Public Media important?A: Public Media is important because of the ever-changing media landscape, Public Media stands alone in reporting, evaluating the news and events that have a daily impact on our lives. Public Media is not beholden to corporate sponsors or large media conglomerates that dictate what we should report or the programs we feature. Q: What do you see as the biggest challenges facing Public Media in the community?A: I see the greatest challenge to Public Media is the ever-changing media landscape. Twenty years ago, social media did not exist in the form it does today. You have millions of people in this country that rely on social media for their news and information which takes away from Public Media. Looking down the road, I wonder what other media platform is waiting in the wings that will take away our audience? Public Media must be prepared to stand out from these platforms through effective programming that impacts our audience. Q: How do you think your past experiences will help KRWG Public Media advance towards the future?A: I have 28 years of broadcast experience in both the commercial and non-commercial platforms in multiple states and different positions. Commercial media does a lot of things well. Some of those things can prove beneficial to non-commercial media. But, KRWG Public Media has much to offer through its various platforms that make us stand out from other media. It is my goal to use the best of what I have learned from my previous experiences to benefit KRWG Public Media. Q: As the new Development Director, how will you make sure your role strengthens the values of KRWG Public Media?A: I have a high passion for public broadcasting having spent 15 years in public media and the last six as KRWG-FM Operations Manager. During this time, I have shared in the mission of KRWG Public Media through effective programming that engages and grows our audience. My goal is to take that passion and share it with our donors and underwriters. Q: Name one thing you would like the communities in southern New Mexico and west Texas to know about KRWG Public Media.A: KRWG Public Media reaches a vast and wide audience through our various platforms. Much more so than other media platforms in southern New Mexico. Our audience is passionate about what we do, so much so that they voluntarily donate money, investing in us to ensure we stay on the air because we are a valuable part of their lives. The passion of our audience is what drives me to share our message with our donors and potential business partners to keep us growing.
