•E85 is a blend of up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline
• Ethanol portion is fermentation grade produced from starch based and bio mass commodities
• Gasoline portion is conventional RUL or natural gasoline
•E85 is High performance fuel averaging 109 octane and is considered an alternative fuel
What is E85?What is E85?
•ASTM 5798 - 98a sets the standard for E85
•Seasonally adjusted to eliminate cold start problems
•E85 during summer
•E70 during winter
•National Fire Protection Association approved in NFPA 30 & 30A (same as gasoline).
National E85 StandardsNational E85 Standards
•Burns cleaner than gasoline
•Contains ~80% less of the potential contaminates found in gasoline (example: benzene, xylene, sulfur)
•Gallon for gallon, E85 has 77% of the energy content of gasoline
E85 AS AN ALTERNATIVE FUELE85 AS AN ALTERNATIVE FUEL
Federal Fleets:
Executive Order 13149 April 21,2000
• 75% of new vehicles must be Low Emission Vehicles
• Reduce consumption of petroleum by 20% by end of FY 2005
Texas Fleets:
70% of new vehicles must be Low Emission Vehicles

ABOVE GROUND E85 FUELING LOCATION
•All tanks that meet Dec. ‘98 EPA standards can be used to dispense E85.
•Replace soft metal parts in dispensers like nozzle, fittings, leak detection components
•1 micron filter & Teflon hose
•Modify existing unleaded system to dispense E85 for approx. $2,500
E85 Fueling SystemsE85 Fueling Systems
•Fueling can be done at a conventional filling system
•No special training needed to fuel vehicle
•No additional fuel tanks or loss of trunk space
•The FFV computer adjusts the fuel injection and ignition timing to compensate for different fuel mixtures
Why E85?Why E85?
What is an FFV?
Flexible fueled vehicles are designed to operate on more than one fuel
• A gasoline FFV can use any mix of gasoline or E85 – from 100% unleaded gasoline to 100% E85
• FFV has an Engine Control Module that “reads” the fuel blend, enabling drivers to fuel with E85 or gasoline in any combination.
What is a Flex Fuel Vehicle? What is a Flex Fuel Vehicle?
All automobile manufactures 10%
All recreational vehicle manufactures 10%
All small engine manufactures 10%
Approval by GM, Ford, Chrysler, Nissan and Saab for use of E85 blends in their Flex Fuel automobiles and trucks.

Consumer Benefits of E85
• Little or no additional cost to own a FFV
• E85 Fuel cost is similar to gasoline*
• E85 Fuels just like gasoline
• E85 provides increased octane and performance
• FFV OEM vehicles are produced & warranted the same as gasoline-only models
Consumer Benefits of E85Consumer Benefits of E85
GM commissioned Well-to-Wheels life cycle analysis of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
Ethanol (E85) reduces greenhouse gas emissions more than any other alternative fuel
•Cleaner engines & fuel systems
•25% reduction in smog-forming pollutants
•35% - 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions
•Renewable fuel from agricultural crops & wastes
•Reduction in our dependence on overseas oil imports
