150 Amazing

Adventures!

Page 2: Natural Resources Foundation 2014 Field Trip Schedule

Cherishing Wisconsin’s Outdoors!Last year the Natural Resources Foundation embarked on a bold new undertaking, and launched the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund. Donations to the Fund will provide habitat management for our state-managed conservation lands, such as State Parks, State Natural Areas, State Wildlife Areas & State Fishery Areas. In celebration of the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund, we are highlighting with a special symbol Field Trips on lands that could benefit from the Fund. The Foundation is excited to embark on this new adventure, and we hope you are too. We have 150 Field Trips this year — that’s 30 more than last year, with space for an additional 500 participants. We hope to see you out in the field, so we can learn more about Wisconsin, and cherish it… together!

Costs & Fees:We try to keep costs low & use your dollars wisely. Trip fees help fund the Field Trip Programs (coordination, staff, printing, postage, and more). Some trips are also fundraisers for important conservation projects.

Children on trips:“Family Friendly” trips are most suitable for children of the age recommendation listed, and thus child’s fees are noted. Children are welcome on all trips for $6 less than the adult fee listed, and must be accompanied by adults.

Colored trip titles:Please double-check that a trip is a good fit for you. We want to make sure you are safe and comfortable. Trip title colors indicate their physical ratings. See page 1 for details.

Registration At-a-Glance:• You must be a member of the Foundation

to register for field trips. See page 36 for more registration details.

• Some trips fill VERY quickly! Online registration shows the most current trip availability.

• Please limit your registration to four trips.• You may register up to 5 guests.• Only register for one canoe/kayak trip per

person due to high demand.• Please don’t register for trips you have

done in the past.

Cherish Trips: Trips identified with this symbol venture to places that may benefit from the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund. (SNAs will also benefit from the Fund, but they have their own symbol.)

Family-Friendly: One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is an appreciation for nature. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Age recommendations are listed for each trip. Child-friendly trips are identified with this symbol:

Birds: Learn the science of bird conservation by banding, surveying, and photographing Wisconsin’s many birds. All of our birding trips are identified with this symbol:

SNAs: Experience Wisconsin’s precious wilderness gems, our State Natural Areas (SNAs), guided by the conservationists who help protect them. All of our SNA trips are indicated with this symbol:

What makes our trips special?• Our trips are led by Wisconsin DNR

professionals & other experts who share their love & knowledge of Wisconsin’s outdoor lands, waters & wildlife.

• Enjoy being with fellow participants who are engaged, enthusiastic, knowledgeable & friendly. Our members are wonderful people!

When can I register?• March25atNOON – Online registration

opens for current & renewing members.

• April1 – Registration opens to the general public. Anyone can easily become a member at a discounted price of $15 during online field trip registration using the passcode: Join NRF

Go out in the field with the experts, learn about their research, how the data they gather makes a difference & what you can do to be part of the discoveries. Then take your new skills home & consider monitoring your own favorite ecosystem. Become a citizen scientist — where fun & science meet!

From bats to bluebirds, butterflies to bees & wildflowers to wolves, there is Citizen-based Monitoring happening across Wisconsin. Our Foundation is a proud long-term supporter of these efforts, and we encourage you to find a species or a place you love — and get science-ing!

Find out more about Citizen-based Monitoring & how you can get involved at: http://wiatri.net/cbm/ There are 24 field trips that introduce you to Citizen Based Monitoring & they are indicated with this symbol.

The lake where your grandfather taught you to fish. The forests you hiked with your family. The wetlands where you and your daughter saw nesting birds. The State Natural Areas, State Parks, State Fisheries, and State Wildlife Areas you’ve explored while on a Field Trip with our Foundation.

How much do these places mean to you? How much do these memories matter? And how much do you want them to thrive for the next generation, and the one after that?

The Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund was created so that we can start now to ensure the future enjoyment of our state’s remarkable natural wonders.

From improving forest health to restoring wetlands and fighting invasive species, Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund was created to last lifetimes because our precious lands, waters, and wildlife must last lifetimes. The Fund debuted in September 2013, and already more than 5,600 people across the state have donated more than $16,000 to the Fund. The need is great, and every donation...from $10 to $1,000 or more...will make a big difference for Wisconsin.

Please consider supporting the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund so that you — and your children and grandchildren — can enjoy Wisconsin forever.

Think of the places that mean Wisconsin to you...
