REFLECTIONS – First Sunday of Advent - The message of this Sunday’s readings is simple: Wake up! The daily grind of life can dull our senses and our minds as we stumble from one thing to the next. The days turn to weeks and before we know it, the seasons have changed and another year is gone. The challenge is to “wake up” and pay attention to each day, each moment. They are precious gifts. We don’t need to do more, but less. Slow down and discover the beauty and wonder of the day. Make this Advent a time to count your blessings.

“Come, let us climb the Lord’s mountain, that he may instruct us in many ways, and we may walk in his paths.” - Isaiah 2:3

Nativity Mausoleum Update Our sales campaign is underway for the construc-tion of new mausoleum crypts at Nativity of Our Lady. The new mausoleum is probably 1 year away from completion, therefore, the small num-ber of unsold crypts that we have in current in-ventory will be reserved for temporary placement for caskets of families who have bought in the new mausoleum and are awaiting completion of the new facilities. We wanted to make this infor-mation known so that you can plan accordingly for your family’s burial needs. If you would like to speak to a salesman from the Acme Mausole-um company, please call the church office for their contact information.

Thank you for your contributions to the collections for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)! Your generous gifts will help CCHD break the cycle of poverty in the United States through better education, improved housing, and economic develop-ment. Through CCHD and its beneficiaries, we demon-strate Catholic social teaching and carry out Jesus’ mis-sion to “bring glad tidings to the poor. . . To proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free” (Lk 4:18).

Upcoming Cenacle Retreat January 13-15, 2017

Forgotten Among the Lilies: Learning to Love Beyond Our Fears

This book, authored by Rev. Ronald Roheiser, will be our guide for this retreat. In the preface, Roheiser says, “Rarely do we taste the food we eat or the cof-fee we drink. Instead, we go through our days too preoccupied, too compulsive, and too dissatisfied to really be able to be present for and celebrate our lives. This book is for those who struggle to make this life, such as it is, enough.” With his wisdom, we will let the Spirit guide us in our reflection and pray-er.

Presenter: Rev. Donald Blanchard. Call Aimee McHugh, one of the retreat captains, at 225-229-5788 for information about this retreat or information about any other Cenacle retreat.

Come Home for Christmas As Advent approaches, we celebrate the coming of Jesus. During this particular season of the Litur-gical Year, we are reminded of our family and friends who have drifted away from the church. Once again, the Diocese of Lafayette will be sponsoring their annual “Come Home for Christmas Campaign.” We want our brothers and sisters to re-turn home to be with their spiritual family. Every active Catholic is encouraged to invite someone to accompany them to Mass on Christmas Day. Offer to pick them up and bring them with you. Please pray for the success of this outreach. We also encourage you to participate in your parish program by submitting to the Church Office the name of a special friend or family member that you would like to invite to Come Home for Christ-mas. Please submit the names and address by De-cember 19th. Forms are provided at all the entrances of the church and may be placed in the collection basket when completed.
