St. Mary’s is off and running in 2018. We are currently preparing for Catholic Schools Week which hosts a theme of “Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” Originally, we were scheduled to have a pork dinner to cap off CSW, but due to a scheduling conflict with the local Pork Producers, we have postponed that event and will host the spaghetti dinner once again on the evening of February 2nd. All are welcome, especially alumni, at 5:00pm. We are also hosting an all school Open House on January 23rd and encourage all to come in. If you are a parishioner, come on in just to see the school and students. If you are a perspective family (or know of one) this is a great chance to meet teachers, students, and families.

Thanks to everyone who filled out a survey last weekend. I truly relished the opportunity to speak to all of you and am excited about the voice you have given us as a guide for the next seven years. If you did not get to complete a survey, please contact the school and we can get you one. We will follow up with the community pertaining to your results, as well as the goals we develop from them. We wanted to emphasize how grateful we are of your support of the school, and the SCRIP program this year. Thank you!

You are Invited to an Open House on January 23, 2018

9:00-11:00am, 1:00-3:00pm, or 5:00-7:00pm

Please come tour our school and look into our classrooms while meeting teachers,

students, and parents.

SCRIP puts your regular shopping dollars to work supporting your parish and school with over fifty retailers ….. grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, department stores, hardware stores, movie theaters, spas and more!

SCRIP cards are always available in the school office and after Mass twice per month ….. next up, January 20th/21st.

Thank you for supporting your parish and school!

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." - Mk 1:16-17

************************************************************** "So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him." What did Zebedee think about all of this? His sons and his partners, James and John, sudden-ly left their post and followed Jesus. So there he stood in the boat with a crew of employees, but not one of his sons. We can't help but wonder whether Zebedee was in favor of this promise that his heirs would become "fishers of men." Most likely, this event was the cause of some familial tension. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus instructs us to love and serve others for the love of God. But the Lord also makes it clear that our devotion to him is meant to trump our devotion to anything-or anyone-else. For our part, we are called to allow this divine allegiance to exist in those we love, even when it means a sacrifice for us as well. Parents for example, like Zebedee, are called to encourage their children to follow the Lord's call. A son or daughter's vocation to religious life certainly exemplifies this kind of sacrifice for a parent who might have had a different plan in mind. But in truth every son and daughter has a vocation from God and parents have the opportunity to support and assist their children as they seek to hear and follow God's special plan for their lives. We don't know for sure how Zebedee responded to the vocation of his sons, but we know that James and John were counted among the Twelve Apostles and that their devotion and dedication helped to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Regardless of what he might have thought as he stood in that boat, we can be quite sure that looking back now, Zebedee can rejoice heartily in the choice of his sons to leave their nets and follow Christ.

G.I.F.T.S “God Is Faithful Temporary Shelter”

Nativity of Mary Parish is busy gearing up to host the GIFT’S Men’s Shelter, the week of February 4th. GIFT’S was truly blessed this past year. The construc-tion inside the new building is complete and the men moved into their new home on November 28th. What a difference it has made! No more packing everything up and setting it up again in a new location each Sunday. The men are taking ownership of their new home, and everything is going smoothly. Help is still needed and we are asking for your support with meals, over-nights and grocery items. Look for us in the church vestibule over the next two weeks, where you can sign up to volunteer. Thank you to all of you who have heard the calling and contributed to our ministry. It has been a very special ten years and our ministry can not survive without your generosity. For more information, or If you know a specific thing you would like to help with please call us at 754-2949. God Bless! Dave & Pat Ellis http://www.gifts-shelter.org
