Sport Scope By LESLIE LINE The defending ICen-Owa league champion Coopersville Broncos de- feated the Sparta Spartans 56-21 Fri- day night. The Spartans, who hardly looked like basketball players In comparison with f the Bronco* were hardly in the con- test from the start on. At one time the victors led by a 10-0 margin. The main factor was the lack of practicc. Coopersville began early to run up a big lead over the Spartans. At the end of the quarters the Broncos led 16-3. 32-7. and 44-14. The Spartans couldn't do anything offeoahfety against the rugged defense of the Coopersville team as Is Indicated by the final score. During the entire contest there were a total of 45 fouls called. CoopersviBe's star, right forward, John Hod so::, was tlie oig factor fci the Broncos win. He dropped in a total of 19 points to lead the scoring | for both teams. The Sparta scoring was quite evenly i divided. Forward Chuck Anderson and Guard Jerry She. Icier tallied six ea .Mike Feichtenbeiner was sec- ond with four. Only five field goaLs were made by the Spartans through- [ out the contest. Grant 53—Krnt City 24 in the opening game of the 1950-51 cage season, lor the Kont City Eagles ; the Orant Tigers of the Newaygo j County A. A. mauled t. e Ken&onians 53-24 on Bhe victors floor. The Tigers j had been previously defeated by Uie Comstock Parle Panthers 32-27. The Orant 5 was red hot through- out the entire contect although they were outplayed in the final period. Grant got off to a fast start In the game running up a high score early in the tilt. At the end of the open- ing period the Tigers loJ by a margin of 11-0. At the end of tne half they had pushed their lead to 28»9 and at the end of the third period they led 35-17.
