welcome to wild on wounds 2016IT’S WHAT I DO, WHAT I LOVE, WHO I AM.

WOW to us is like a big family reunion of clinicians who love wound care just like us! Learning together about all the new information, products and technologies to better care for our patients.

WHAT I DO …

We as Wound Care clinicians want to do everything we can to heal and care for our patients. We have planned this year’s WOW sessions based on your feedback. Some of the highlights this year include:

• Case Studies

• Compression Wrapping Lab

• New topical treatments and technologies learning hands on

• Telemedicine

• Arterial, Venous and Diabetic what is new with these chronic wounds

WHAT I LOVE …

There is nothing like the excitement we get … that surge of energy we feel when we “heal a wound”! Networking with other clinicians who share our passion (love) for healing wounds is one of the reasons why we created WOW. Our goal at WOW is to bring clinicians together from around the country to share ideas on what works, what doesn’t, and what’s new. Clinicians also have the opportunity to see, touch, and learn about all the new products and interventions available to help us do what we love, to heal wounds.

WHO I AM …

We are healers and we want to help heal our patients as quickly as possible with the most appropriate treatment while minimizing pain, in the most cost efficient way. The best way to do this, is by staying up to date with the MOST current standards of care, learning, seeing, and comparing new products, technologies, and interventions relevant to our world.

Bring a friend and share the experience.see you soon!

Telemedicine is the transfer of medical data through electronic devices. This allows for ease and clarity of communication in real or stored time consults, often with the patient present. This methodology of care both differs from and compliments traditional wound care. Ease of use is a key component that involves medical professionals as well as an efficient IT department. Triage through telemedicine provides insights and expertise whereby treatment options are more effectively managed by the availability of differing opinions and consensus. Telemedicine has the advantage because it can be employed in remote settings, providing a cost benefit as well as relieving the social burden of travel for the patient.

The loss of lean body mass affects functional independence and impairs many of the body’s physiological functions including wound healing. The phrase “body composition” is used to describe the different components which make up total body weight. Weight on a traditional scale does not tell the entire story about a person’s nutritional status. Learn new techniques in this session.

111 Wound Pain Options for Treatment Without Losing Your License » Michael Miller DO, FACOS, FAPWCA, WCC, CEO Medical Director, Miller Care Group, Indianapolis, IN

There are a myriad of causes for pain associated with wounds and related conditions. While the definitive goal is to address the underlying cause of wounds, related pain can significantly impact all aspects of the process. The current epidemic of narcotic prescribing has taken the forefront in the media, and so there is considerable paranoia amongst providers regarding how to treat pain of both an acute and chronic nature safely. There are a considerable number of options and categories that are now being used to treat various pain syndromes, in addition to other modalities. Consideration of treatment of pain needs to be made based on the condition being acute or chronic, since types of pain change overtime and respond differently to different medications. This lecture will discuss the major categories of pain, the pathophysiology of each, and treatment options for the various types of pain.
