James Brown “Soul of America” Music Festival

The City of Augusta, GA, along with the Heritage Crest Foundation, embraces the legendary James Brown. Mr. Brown is a beloved figure, not only in his home of Georgia & South Carolina, but across the United States and around the World as well. We recognize Mr. Brown, the Godfather of Soul. Please join us, as we honor one of our greatest musical treasures ever, for the First Annual James Brown “Soul of America” Music Festival.

Held in the recently acclaimed “WE FEEL GOOD” city, that hosts the most prestigious golf tournament in the world, the James Brown “Soul of America” Music Festival, a bi-state event (GA/SC) is to be held Memorial Day Weekend, May 25th thru 28th, 2006 with an expected attendance of over 100,000. This historic Festival will televise two of its major events that will air nationally and internationally in selected markets and cable systems across the country.

This festival promises to be the music festival of all festivals; attracting music lovers of all genres, from all over the world. While many festivals celebrate and pay homage to past and living music legends, no other festival will celebrate all music forms like the JBMF.

“. . . everybody has a soul, they may have a different culture to draw from, but everyone has a soul.”

James Brown “Soul of America” Music Festival

From NASCAR fans to Jazz, Blues to Soul and from Country to Hip Hop, more than fifty (50) acts will grace the stages of The James Brown “Soul of America” Music Festival. Each of the fifty (50) acts will pay tribute and celebrate the fiftieth 50th anniversary of James Brown's first release, Please, Please, Please. More than forty entertainers, from the film, sports and music industries, will invite the world to join this 50th year anniversary. The event will be held in historic downtown Augusta, Georgia.

No one entertainer has had as much influence as “The Godfather of Soul, Soul Brother Number 1, Mr. Dynamite, The Hardest Working Man in Show Business.” From Gospel, Hard Rock, Reggae, Country, Jazz and Blues, to R&B and Hip-Hop, one man has changed the rhythm of music twice in a generation and music has never been the same.

James Brown has greatly influenced some of the world’s most renowned artists, such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Usher. His use of the seventh cord and many harmonic transitions created a smooth sound with an edge of desperation. Thus, James Brown has had the greatest influence on music ever.

“. . . everybody has a soul, they may have a different culture to draw from, but everyone has a soul.”

Music Makes The Difference

The City of Augusta, Georgia and the Heritage Crest Foundation’s We Feel Good committee invites people from all over the world to:

“Embrace The Race”

The JBMF is a tribute to America's great Diversity and courage during our most difficult times. The music industry has always been the front runners in coming to the rescue of our most vulnerable. The James Brown Music Festival celebrates the "Soul of America"through music because MUSIC MAKES THE DIFFERENCE.

James Brown “the Godfather of Soul” who pioneered race music in the 60's was one of the most influential figures that unified the nation. Some fifty years later his influence on the social fabric of this country as well as music is more evident today as we see Pop, Hip Hop and Country sensations writing, producing and signing songs together.

The Godfather of Soul will be making appearances at NASCAR events to embrace the race. Join us as the Foreign Minister of Funk performs “Living in America”during this homecoming tour and embrace the race.

“. . . everybody has a soul, they may have a different culture to draw from, but everyone has a soul.”

Breaking News …WRDW Channel 12 (CBS)October 4, 2005Organizers for the James Brown Music Festival are using the “We Feel Good” slogan to lure thousands to Augusta for the mega event that is planned for late March..

In March, the Augusta Common will be center stage for the festival, right across from the James Brown statue. Organizer Champ Walkerexpects a crowd between 50,000-100,000.

“This is an international event,” Walker said. An event that organizers hope will pour millions of dollars into the local economy.

“Let’s get together, what we miss is love,” Brown said.

“James Brown brought the races together during the 1960’s. You are talking about race music hew as the pioneer, you’re talking about rap, funk, rock, you are talking about James Brown,” Walker said. The entertainer says it would be good for the local economy.

“If they get that James Brown Festival started that would pay offAugusta’s bills for a year so they don’t have to worry about how they are going to get money and subsidies,” Brown said.

“Now that we are the Feel Good City he feels like this city has turned a corner in reference to him and his contributions and we have an icon in our midst,” Walker said.

“God is good and please please please don’t forget me,” Brown said.

The James Brown Soul of America Music Festival and Celebrity Weekend is set for March 30 through April 2.
