North East Regional Institute of Education (NERIE), NCERT,

invites participants for a two-day National Seminar on “New

Perspectives of Health and Physical Education in School”, being

organized on 19th

and 20th

February 2014.

ABOUT NERIE

The North East Regional Institute of Education, a constituent unit

of NCERT, New Delhi, was established at Umiam, Meghalaya to cater

to the educational needs of eight North East States, viz., Assam,

Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim

and Tripura. NERIE’s mandate is to provide academic and technical

support and to assist and advise the Governments of the above

mentioned states on policies and programmes of all aspects of School

Education.

With a pleasantly cool climate in February, NERIE is situated at

20 kms away from Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya and also 50

kms away from Cherrapunjee. It is located next to North Eastern

Space Application Centre and 2 kms away from the National Highway

of Guwahati - Shillong or Orchid Lake Resort. It is well connected to

Guwahati. The distances from NERIE to Guwahati airport and to

railway station are 105 kms and 85 kms respectively.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

School Health Education aims to instill the understanding that

Education is a means of empowerment for individual, allowing the

individual to make educated health decisions. Today, School Health

Education is seen as a ‘comprehensive health curriculum.’

The National Curriculum Frameworks (2005) and (2000) and

National Policy on Education (1986) have categorically emphasized

that Health Education is to be given much priority for individual

healthy, happy, productive, peaceful and long life. World Health

Organization and Government of India have indicated the prominent

roles of Health Education in preventing unhealthy living by following

prophylaxis rather than curing diseases.

Many reasons, demands and critical situations (Midday Meal

Scheme, Sex Education, Early Parenthood etc.) are imposing to give

strong preference to Health Education. There is a hope of improving

further the specific areas of Health Education, particularly the research

activities and teaching and learning of Health Sciences in school.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Interested participants are requested to send their abstracts of not

more than 500 words and full papers not exceeding 5000 words to the

coordinator. The abstracts and full papers should be related to the

subthemes and sent in both hard and soft copies. Either abstract or full

paper should contain title, names of authors with complete address and

text. The text of abstract must include importance and significance of

study, methodology, results and discussions/conclusions without

subheadings, while the text of full papers must have opt subheadings viz.,

Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions,

Acknowledgments and References with tables and figures. The name of

the presenting author is to be underlined.

A screening committee will shortlist the abstracts based on

originality and quality of research under various subthemes and successful

candidates will accordingly be informed.

Presentation The acceptance letter for presentation under oral or poster category

will be sent by email to the presenting author/ the first author on 31st

December 2013. LCD projector is available for oral presentation. The

details for poster presentation will be uploaded shortly.

HOSPITALITY

On request from the presenting author, local free hospitality will be

provided, accommodation arranged and travelling allowance up to second

sleeper class train fare paid without DA. Generally, the disbursement of

TA will be made on submission of tickets/fare receipt in the afternoon of

20th

February 2014.

No registration fee is required.

CONFIRMATION

As soon as acceptance (email) letter for presentation is received, the

tour plan may please be confirmed and conveyed to the organizing

committee of the seminar by email (nerie.ncert@gmail.com).

OUTCOMES

This two-day seminar will provide a challenging opportunity to

educationists, teacher educators, civil society activists, research scholars,

academicians, administrators, and teachers to share their thoughts,

experiences and research studies and to make scholarly contributions

towards recent trends in School Health Education. Inputs for policy will be

provided through seminar recommendations. The abstracts and full papers

will be published as books of seminar proceedings.
