Calling all 4 – 7 year Olds!Vacation with the Presidents!

QUINCY, MA – During February School Vacation Week, join Braintree Teacher and National

Park Service Volunteer Kelly at the Adams National Historical Park Visitor Center for an hour

of storytelling and activities to learn some of the lesser-known lives of our American presidents!

The fun filled schedule includes:

Tuesday, February 16 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

George, Paul, John, and Ben by Lane Smith. This picture book tells the story of George

Washington, Paul Revere, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson before they

became Founding Fathers. Following the story, Kelly will lead everyone making candles to

bring home!

Wednesday, February 17 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Dangerous Crossing: The Revolutionary Voyage of John Quincy Adams by Stephen Krensky. In

2016 if we want to go to France we hop on a plane. In 1778 when John Adams brought his 10

year old son Johnny they had to survive a dangerous boat ride that took weeks! After story time,

everyone can make hand-print ships!

Thursday, February 18 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

A Black Hole is Not a Hole by Carolyn Cinami DeCrisofano. Budding scientists may be excited

to learn that John Quincy Adams loved studying the skies! This book talks about Black Holes

and how scientists find them. After, create some constellations of your own in a nifty art

project!

Friday, February 19 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Wackiest White House Pets by Gibbs Davis. Almost 400 pets have lived in the White House –

including John Quincy Adams’s pet alligator! What other wacky animals have lived there? This

hour will end with everyone making an alligator puppet to take back home.

The National Park Service Visitor Center is located at the Galleria at Presidents Place, 1250

Hancock Street. Validated Parking is in the garage in the rear of the building and accessed via

Seville Street. Each story hour is free and geared toward children ages 4 – 7. For more

Adams National Historical Park includes the birthplaces of the second and sixth presidents of the

United States, John Adams and John Quincy Adams, along with the “Old House at Peace field,”

home to both presidents and four generations of their distinguished family. During the open

season, April 19 through November 10, tickets to the historic homes can be purchased at the

Visitor Center located at 1250 Hancock Street, Quincy. A free park trolley transports visitors

from the Visitor Center to the Birthplaces and the “Old House at Peace field” for a two and a half

hour tour. The first tour leaves at 9:15 a.m. and the last tour leaves at 3:15 p.m., seven days a

week including federal holidays. Tickets are $10.00 for adults (children 15 and under are free)

and sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
