L.A. Scott House 513 W. Louisiana McKinney, Col l i n County, Texas McKinney, Multiple-Property, Nomination
L.A. Scott was one of McKinney's most active and i n f l u e n t i a l businessman during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and was highly regarded and respected among i t s c i t i z e n s . Scott was instrumental i n the successful operation of several of the c i t y ' s most important i n s t i t u t i o n s including the McKinney Ice and Coal Co. (which throughout his association was the community's sole source of electricity and power). He served as president and general manager of the company. For 25 years, he was also president of the Co l l i n County National Bank, which for many years was one of only two such i n s t i t u t i o n s i n the c i t y , and was a director of the C o l l i n County M i l l and Elevator Co. He was a member of the local school board for over 20 years and the c i t y ' s junior high school was named i n his honor, acknowledging his many contributions to the l o c a l school d i s t r i c t and educational system. Scott's death on February 19, 1934 made headline news i n the local newspaper and a l l of the c i t y ' s schools and banks were closed to mourn his death, thus s i g n i f y i n g his important role i n McKinney's history and development.
