NATIONAL MATHEMATICS DAY CELEBRATIONS (Birth Anniversary of the Indian Mathematical Genius Sri Srinivasa

Ramanujan)

Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920) born at Erode, Tamilnadu. He was

a prominent student winning academic prizes in high school level. At age

16, his life took a turn after he obtained a book titled “A synopsis of

elementary results in pure and applied mathematics”. After his education

career, he worked as a clerk. At that time he wrote a 10 page letter

contained above 120 statement of theorem on infinite series, integrals,

continued functions and number theory to the English. Mathematicians

G.H. Hardy and collaborate J.E. Little wood during this period he had his

first paper published, a 17 page work on Bernouli numbers that appeared in

1911 in the Journal of the Indian Mathematical facts. Cambridge University

rated him bachelor of degree in 1916 and he was elected as fellow of Royal

Society in 1918 by that he was hospitalized. He returned India in 1919 his

health failed again and died in 1920. In 1997, the Ramanujan Journal was

launched to publish work in “Area of Mathematics influenced by

Ramanjuan”. In 2012, the Government of India declared December, 22 as

“National Mathematics Day”.
