NewsNational Library Week Finale Party

Seward Memorial Library’s celebration of National Library Week concludes on April 16 with a grand finale party. The party, co-sponsored by Friends of Seward Library, will include activities for all ages. Rain or shine Saturday’s party will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. Activities will take place outside of the library as well as inside the facility. A bounce house and giant inflatable slide will be located on 5th Street along with an assortment of large vehicles and equipment for viewing. Free activities include face painting, inflatables, balloon animals, games, a cookie

walk, Fit4Seward kick-of f, bike helmet fitting and giveaway by Four Corners

Health Department, and live music by the Firehouse Five. Snow Motion and

Pac ‘N’ Save will provide food for purchase. Join in the fun and help celebrate National Library Week!

March Mania in the Library

There is still time to pick your winning basketball teams for March Mania at Seward Memorial Library. Friends of Seward Library are providing $25 prizes for those participants whose forms are drawn with the most correct answers in each round. The remaining deadline dates are:

Adventures of a Solo Traveler On Sunday, April 3 Seward Memorial Library will host “Adventures of a Solo Traveler.” Jessica Kolterman will share her experiences as an independent traveler in Kenya. Jessica enjoys the freedom of being on her

own. Discover what she saw and learned during her trips without tour guides. Hear about her unplanned excursion to Cairo during the one-hour program which begins at 2:00 p.m. There will be a time for questions followed by refreshments.

StoryWalk® Returns for National Library Week

Spring is here and it is time to hit the Plum Creek Trail for a hike. Take along your children and read as you exercise. In mid-April watch for a StoryWalk® to be posted along the trail beginning at “The Garden” on Karol Kay Blvd. Readers can enjoy the children’s books as they travel from page to page on the walking path. When Spring Comes by Kevin Henkes and R is for Rocket by Tad Hills will be the featured titles. Take your family and make this a healthy outing. The trail is always open so you can pick your favorite time of day for a StoryWalk®. Exercise your mind as well as your body as you celebrate the return of spring.

Minecraft Party

Minecraft is a creative game about using blocks to build anything that you can imagine. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to a special Minecraft Party at Seward Memorial Library on Monday, April 25. Come at 4:00 p.m. to explore other worlds and share in the adventures of Minecraft play. Mid-Week Movies in April

Seward Memorial Library will host two newly released on DVD feature films in April. Come on Thursday, April 7 and watch a story which focuses on athletic injuries. Fly to other galaxies while viewing the film on Wednesday, April 20. Both movies begin at 1 p.m. Bring a snack and a friend and relax in the library’s lower level conference room.

Fit4Seward Returns

Seward Memorial Library will launch the 2016 Fit4Seward program on Saturday, April 16 at the National Library Week finale party. Each year the library promotes good health through this program which gives patrons access to a unique collection of materials. Books, DVDs, fitness equipment and outdoor games can be checked out in the lower level of the library from April 17 through July 30. The library offers rewards for making use of this collection during the spring and summer months. Watch for details regarding this year’s promotion by visiting the website at: www.fit4seward.org.

All Seward Reads Together

Each year people gather at the library to share ideas and discuss one book which has been read together. Readers are provided with enriching opportunities correlated with the topic or theme of the chosen book. The All Seward Reads Together selection for 2016 will be announced at the Book Review BINGO night on April 14.

Book Review BINGO

Cash prizes, an ice cream buffet, books, and BINGO! All of these are included in the program of fered at Seward Memorial Library on Thursday, April 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The staff at Seward Memorial Library will review titles which are on the 2016 Notable Books List and the 2016 RUSA’s The Reading List. Participants can hear recommendations about new books and gather lists of titles for future reading. Discover new authors and test a different genre. As books are reviewed listeners cross off titles on BINGO cards while enjoying an ice cream buffet. The Friends of Seward Library are providing cash prizes for winners this year! Come and join in the literary fun … it will be a sweet night.

“The Fabulous Fables Factory”

The York College Traveling Children’s Theatre will be coming to Seward Memorial Library on Saturday, April 9. The talented cast of students will perform “The Fabulous Fables Factory” at 1 p.m. This delightful story revolves around an inquisitive youngster who discovers an old factory operated by a Mrs. Aesop and an assembly line of eight fable makers. Some of Aesop’s best-known fables are enacted as the young girl Margo surprises everyone with her moral-making ability. Everyone is welcome to this one-hour show, but children who have not yet attended school must be accompanied by an adult.

Something Fishy at the Nebraska Game & Parks Laboratory

On Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. Seward Memorial Library will host David Oates, retired director of the Nebraska Game and Parks Laboratory in Lincoln. During his 40 years of work for this department he was exposed to a variety of unusual things. David will share his stories as he shows pictures of unique items which appeared while serving in this position. Everyone is welcome to his one-hour presentation which includes refreshments and a time for questions. Nebraska nature enthusiasts should mark this date on their calendar.

Eureka! It’s Euchre in the Library!

Euchre is a trick-taking card game which was invented around 1860 and played with four people using a deck of 32 playing cards. It is the game responsible for introducing the joker into the modern deck of cards. If you are interested in learning how to play this popular Midwest game or are already familiar with Euchre, come to Seward Memorial Library on Saturday, April 2 at 9:30 a.m. to start your day with cards. Tech Tools Night

If technology intrigues you, come to Seward Memorial Library on Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. The staff will highlight important household gadgets such as a humidity monitor, outlet tester, radon detector and more that are only needed occasionally. These items will be available for patrons to check out. Enjoy a slice of pizza and digest lots of information about our new collection of special tools.
