Tomorrow we lock horns with Northumbria once again with a place in the National Cup semi final at stake so its another tough weekend but one we are all looking forward to.

Thanks for the support and enjoy the games.

Coach Mellor

Hello and welcome to this weekend’s double header against Solent in the league and Northumbria in the National Cup quarter final.

Our last home game saw a very good performance to beat Reading Rockets where we started off slow but I thought we played some good basketball in the final 15 minutes.

Last weekend saw us travel to Northumbria where we came away on the wrong end of a 94-91 scoreline. Once again after a slow start I thought we played pretty good but just fell short in the closing moments. Tonight’s opponents from

quarter, it was the Rockets that had the better of the play, quickly opening a 5 point lead. The home side kept themselves in contention, pulling the score back to 2 points (25-27) at the end of the first period. The visitors continued to press in the second, reopening the gap to 7 points. Bradford refused to let them get away turning the game around, taking a 4 point lead at half time 49-45. Bradford took control of proceedings in the third quarter extending their lead to 11 points. Reading refused to let go pulling the gap back to 7 points (76-69). Reading couldn’t get within reach of the home side in the final quarter and with less than 90 seconds remaining on the clock, Bradford were ahead by 9 (98-89). Marcus Gooding then took Bradford over the 100 point mark for the sixth time in 7 games. The contest ending 102-96 a 7th straight victory. Gooding topped the home side’s scorers with 29 points, with Sulcs contributing 25 points and Fetske a further 23 points.

Last weekend the Dragons travelled to Northumbria, looking to extend their winning streak. With scores tight in the first five minutes of the game, the hosts took control closing the opening period with a ten-point lead (24-14). Three minutes into the second quarter, a Jason Swaine three-point jump shot pulled it back to a two point ball game. Northumbria opened the gap back up and at the half way point the Dragons were 8 points down 49-41. The third quarter followed a similar pattern, Bradford finally grabbing the lead with 3 minutes of the period remaining (59-60). The home side then stepped it up again, finishing the penultimate period with a seven-point advantage, 71-64. The game exploded in the final quarter, the Dragons hunting down the deficit, taking the lead with 5 minutes remaining, 76-77. The Geordies refused to let go with the lead changing hands through the remainder of the game. With 4 minutes to go, Ricky Fetske, picked up his 5th foul, sending him to the bench, followed 2 minutes later by Rihards Sulcs. With only 1 minute 45 seconds remaining the scores were once again tied, 85-85. In an exciting climax, time outs were called by both coaches, the lead staying with Northumbria. Levazeux picked up his 5th foul joining Fetske and Sulcs on the bench. Bradford could not claw back the lead and the contest ended 94-91. Gooding led the Bradford scorers, with 20 points, whilst Ricky Fetske racked up another double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Sulcs also contributed with 15 points.

In a busy two weeks, the Dragons took on Westminster Warriors away, winning 87-98, and Reading Rockets at home, again coming out on top in a hard fought battle to win 102-96. This exciting weekend saw them extend their winning form to 7 victories in a row, a record not achieved since the 2013/14 season.

The Dragons travelled to Westminster just two weeks after hosting the London team. Bradford led from the offset, providing stern opposition for the Westminster team and taking the first three quarters. Despite coming back in the third, Westminster could not better the Dragons.Ricky Fetske led the scoring for Bradford with 21 points, ably assisted by Jason Swaine with 18 points, Marcus Gooding adding 17.

NEXT HOME GAME:DRAGONS v TEAM NORTHUMBRIA

SUNDAY 20TH NOVEMBER 2016 4:15pm

Where have you been playing since leaving the Dragons?

After two wonderful seasons for the Dragons, as a player and also a coach for the under 14 boys, I returned, with my wife and daughter, to our hometown, Czestochowa (Poland). I went back to my first team, AZS Politechnika Czestochowa (Polish Second Division). After three years of playing for them, I have found a very good job in Dobrodzien. I have changed team and am now in my second season for Start Meble Dobrodzien.

And what about on the personal front?

I am the happiest dad of two wonderful daughters and husband to Marta, who played for the Bradford Dragons women’s team in 2011/12. I will never forget my time in Bradford for many reasons, but especially that my oldest daughter, Maja, was born at Bradford Royal Infirmary, on 1st January 2011.

What are your fondest memories of your time in Bradford?

There are plenty of memories, like winning the Division Two title, or finishing sixth in Division One in our first year. However, I don’t want to just talk about basketball, I want it to be about the people – not only the players but also all the people associated with this amazing club. After two years in the team, I created timeless friendships and I have been in touch with them all ever since. I could always count on my teammates, both on and off the court. I also had the opportunity to coach some amazing teenagers, some of whom are still playing for the Dragons. I hope that I managed to share, not only my knowledge of the game but also the right personal values with this great bunch of boys. The kindness of people associated with Bradford Dragons is legendary!!! I can’t wait for the opportunity to show up one day in Bradford to visit you all.

This week we look back at a player who helped the Dragons to gain promotion to Division One.
