Monroe Athletic Complex (MAC) The Monroe Athletic Complex is a state-of-the-art basketball facility, located in the New Roc City entertainment center in Downtown New Rochelle, NY. It was opened by Monroe College in January, 2011. The centerpiece of the 45,000 square-foot former ice rink is a 94-foot, wood-floor basketball court where the Monroe basketball and volleyball teams play their home games. The complex also includes locker rooms, a training facility, and seating for 1,100 fans. Overlooking the court are sizeable reception rooms and a professional kitchen for catered events.

Parking Parking is available at no charge to teams and officials in the college’s parking lot on Locust Avenue, a block from the MAC. Team buses and vans can park in the hotel parking lot, which is walking distance to the MAC. Fans and spectators can park in the New Roc City municipal parking lot. The entrance is on Lecount Place.

Directions Find directions to the MAC in the “Fan Zone” at www.monroecollegemustangs.com . To get to the hotel, follow the above directions and continue down Main Street and make a left on Echo Place and your first left onto Hugenot Street. Restaurants

New Rochelle’s restaurateurs join Monroe College in welcoming tournament participants to Downtown New Rochelle, NY. Within walking distance of the Monroe Athletic Complex (MAC) you can find a cuisine to match every appetite and budget. And for a short drive, there are a number of other options. Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar (35 LeCount Place, 914-654-0991) This popular chain of family-style restaurants offers a wide-range of menu items to satisfy most any craving, from freshly-made salads to large burgers dripping with melted cheese and onions. Price range: $11 - $30. Credit cards and reservations accepted. Buffalo Wild Wings (33 LeCount Place, 914-637-9453) Another popular chain, more meat and potatoes including, of course, buckets of chicken wings prepared from miId to you-better-have-pitchers-of-water-handy spicy! There you’ll also enjoy the large flat screens tuned to any number of games being played around the world and visible from every table in the house. Price range: $11 - $30. Credit cards and reservations accepted. On the Waterfront (2 Pelham Road, 914-365-1556) This casual, family-style restaurant that’s a perfect spot for athletic teams, offers a breathtaking view, impressive surroundings and great food. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting with linen tablecloths, bright lights and casual background music. They serve authentic American cuisine with an emphasis on sandwiches and hamburgers, with seafood, steak and chicken entrees. Jani (33 LeCount Place, 914-632-2147) This PanAsian restaurant will satisfy your “yen” for Asian (Japanese and Chinese) cuisine, while also offering some menu choices for the less adventuresome. It’s more elegant than some of its neighboring restaurants but still casual (jeans are fine) and a good after-game destination. Price range: $11 - $30. Credit cards and reservations accepted. El Tio Mexican Restaurant (25 Anderson Place, 914-633-8686) This south-of-the-borderish destination is also just south (across the street) of New Roc City. Its good quality, authentic Mexican cuisine appeals to both Mexican gourmets and to newbies. It gets very crowded weekends, so plan accordingly since it’s not a large restaurant but certainly large enough to accommodate groups of 10 to 15 or more. Price range: $11 - $30. Credit cards & reservations accepted. Little Mexican Café (581 Main Street, 914-636-3926) For more authentic Mexican, they’ve been in business for nearly 25-years and you’ll really feel like you have crossed the border when entering this very popular destination that has been consistently voted the “Best” by readers of Westchester Magazine. Price range: $11 - $30. Credit cards and reservations accepted. Don Coqui (115 Cedar Street, 914-637-3737) The Latin cuisine here is distinctly unique and decidedly Puerto Rican in its orientation. Still casual but definitely more upscale (and pricier), your team will have great fun here – especially any member inclined to try their hand (or more accurately, their feet) at dancing the Salsa! It’s also in walking distance of both the MAC and the Radisson (although a bit further and you’ll have to navigate some busy corners including the entrances and exits to I-95) so you may want to drive. Large enough for big groups. Price range: $31 - $60. Credit cards and reservations accepted.

Diners

The Mirage (690 North Ave., 914- 235-2568.) Located directly opposite the campus of Iona College, you’ll need transportation to get here. Price range: $11 - $30. Credit cards and reservations accepted. Open 24-hours. Other nearby diners in our neighboring communities of Larchmont are the BLD Diner (for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) at 2399 Boston Post Rd. and the Mamaroneck Diner & Pizza Restaurant, located at 405 E. Boston Post Rd (about ten miles and 15-20 minutes away, also on the Post Rd.) This diner consistently gets rave reviews and if you’re visiting Westchester for the first time and want to see a bit more of the area, Mamaroneck is a great destination with a very walkable downtown and picturesque harbor area. In between both of these destinations is the Nautilus Diner (1240 Boston Post Rd., about three miles away). It’s also a bit more affordable than either the Mirage and Mamaroneck diners.

Pizza

New Rochelle has no shortage of great pizzerias that have been in business for years, a testament to the quality of their products. Three in particular that we know and recommend are: Town Pizza House Restaurant, 8 Anderson Place (914-235-5128) No deliveries but you can place an order by phone. Seating is tight and limited to tables of four, so it’s hit or miss if you’ll get a table but the pizza – and other Italian specialties – is great! Pizza Hut, 80 Huguenot St. (914-575-0147) If you want to know exactly what to expect, this well-known chain is also in walking distance of the MAC and right across the street from the Radisson’s back door entrance. No deliveries but you can order a pie in advance for pick up or eat in. Modern Restaurant & Pizzeria, 12 Russell Ave. (914-633-9479) You’ll need wheels to get here (about 1.5 miles from the Radisson) and parking is tight, so plan accordingly. But it’s worth the effort. This is an authentic Italian restaurant and pizzeria, comparable to any place you’ll find in New York City’s Little Italy. The menu is also far more extensive than just pizza. And, it delivers for free!

Other Fast Food

Kentucky Fried Chicken , 490 North Avenue, New Rochelle (914) 632-3290 McDonald's, 270 Main Street, New Rochelle (914) 636-9329 Subway Sandwiches & Salads, 215 North Avenue, New Rochelle. . . (914) 633-9435 Taco Bell Restaurant, 329 Main Street, New Rochelle. . . (914) 576-0534

A list of some of the area’s finer (more expensive) and bigger restaurants (able to accommodate a larger group) follows. You can find reviews for many on the New Rochelle BID web site http://www.newrochelledowntown.com/directory/restaurants/ Unless otherwise noted, all are in walking distance of either the MAC or not too far from the Radisson. Just be sure to call in advance for reservations!):

Bella Bella, 583 Main St. (Italian -- 914-813-2626) Posto 22, 22 Division St. (Italian -- 914-235-2464) Coromandel Cuisine of India, 30 Division Street (Indian -- 914-235-8390) Rangoli, 615 Main St. (Indian -- 914-235-1306)

City Chow House, Radisson Hotel (Italian/American -- 914-576-4141) Just outside New Rochelle but worth the trip for a change of scenery… Edo Japanese Steakhouse, 4787 Boston Post Rd, Pelham, (914- 738-1413) Dinner and “entertainment” by its chefs and their amazing knife skills. Your team will sit around a grill and watch their dinner prepared in front of their own eyes. It’s a very lively place and not your traditional restaurant. Great steak! Molly Spillane’s, 211 Mamaroneck Ave., Mamaroneck, (914-899-3130) This is another great sports bar with a decidedly Irish pub twist to it.
