So far, the Department has successfully managed approximately 400 children with bac-teriologically confirmed MDR tuberculosis and 13 children with XDRTB, including 4 children with Total drug resistance and one case of Congenital XDR (Unpublished da-ta).
Other activities include teaching and training undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, training of DTO/STOs for National Pediatric TB Control program and training to International scholars from several countries. So far, WHO fellows from Korea, My-anmar and Bangladesh have been given this training. A 2-day “Pediatric Training of Trainers Module” was also successfully organized in which modular training was im-parted to 137 pediatricians from across the country. Several doctorate students from oth-er reputed Institutes have received guidance in the Department for their theses.
The Department has been closely working with the Central TB Division in framing guidelines for Control of Pediatric TB ant national level. Some of the notable meets in this regard are:

The Department of Pediatrics is devoted exclusively to the care of children suffering from TB or other respiratory conditions. The Department runs a busy OPD daily look-ing after about 40 patients per day out of whom about 6-10 patients are diagnosed to have tuberculosis. There is a ded-icated pediatric ward having 34 beds for serious patients or those requiring surgical intervention. Patients having HIV co-infection are also looked after.

Research in clinical and epidemiological aspects of pediatric respiratory diseases is a major focus of the Department. Several collaborative research projects are going on in collaboration with In-ternational bodies like Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston (U.S.), Childhood TB Working Group of International Union of Tuberculosis & Lung Diseases (IUATLD) and Childhood Action Group on TB. Dr. Sangeeta Sharma was invited to deliver Faculty guest lecture on “Experiences in Management of MDR Tuberculosis in Chil-dren from India” in 45th Union World Conference on Lung Health, Barcelona, Spain in 2014.
