Since dawn of the human history on earth, vital role of the rivers and water resources for survival of the life have been realised. Founder of the Banaras Hindu University, Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Ji had deep regards for the rivers, specially "Mother Ganga" and its uninterrupted flow was maintained through an agreement between British Government and Hindu leaders in 1916.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVE
National Conference on Ecological Challenges of the
Ganga, River Development and Water Resource
Management aims to provide a platform to Scientist,
Engineers, Socio-Economic-Religious Experts,
Academics, Researchers, NGOs, Law Experts and
Politicians interested in river development and water
resources management to exchange their experiences
related to water crisis, water resource management and
sustainable use of rivers. It also provides a multi- and
inter- disciplinary forum for policy makers, researchers,
practitioners and educators to present and discuss the
most recent innovations, trends and concerns, practical
challenges and solutions to adopt holistic ecological
approach for sustainable water resource management in
India.

THEME OF THE CONFERENCE
ABOUT THE VENUE
The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is located in
the city of Varanasi which is also famous as Kashi or
Benaras or oldest living city of the world. It ranks
among the first few in the country in the field of
academic and research. This university has two
campuses i.e. Main Campus and Rajiv Gandhi South
Campus, 4 institutes, 16 faculties, 140 departments, 6
advanced centres and 4 interdisciplinary schools. The
University is making its mark at the national and
international levels in a number of frontier areas of
Science, River Science, Social Science, Technology,
Medicine, Agriculture, Yoga etc. The University
ensures the development of a collaborative
environment conducive to learning, exposure to the
best international practices and promotion of
innovation and creativity. BHU today has nearly
thirty thousand students including 3000 research
scholars and 683 foreign students from 36 nations,
under one roof who are pursuing different academic
programmes. These are some of the brightest young
minds in the country and abroad, who have joined this
University after clearing a rigorous All India Entrance
Test. We realize that the rapid pace of development in
the country has raised the awareness as well as
expectations of the people. Institutions of higher
learning are instrumental in providing equality of

democracy. The Campus of the BHU is heading well
