The lone road team to win Friday was Omaha, which topped Colorado College, 5-3, in its NCHC opener to improve to 4-0 on Fridays this season. The Mavericks were the final NCHC team to open confer - ence play. UNO is 0-2-1 on Saturdays this year, however. Omaha went 4-for-6 on the power play against CC and is now 12-for-31 on the man advantage this season. The Mavericks rank first nationally with their 38.7 percent success rate on the power play, scoring at least one power play goal in six of seven games so far this season. With the five goals, Omaha now ranks third in the NCAA on offense, averaging 4.29 goals per game. No. 3/3 Denver, last week’s No. 1 team, defeated this week’s No. 1 team, St. Cloud State, 4-2, handing the Huskies their first loss of the season after a 7-0-0 start. Sophomore forward Henrik Borgström tallied three points in the win, scoring two goals and adding an assist. He leads the country with 11 goals this season, three more than any other NCAA player. His 1.38 goals per game and 2.00 points per game both also rank first nationally. He has a point in all eight games he’s played this year, including five multi-point outings. Junior forward Troy Terry, who had an assist Friday, sits second in the country with both 17 points (5g, 12a) and 1.89 points per game, while his +11 plus-minus ties for first nationally. No. 12/14 Minnesota Duluth earned its first NCHC win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of No. 18/15 Western Michigan. Sophomore goaltender Hunter Shepard made 22 saves to pitch his second shutout of the season and of his career. His two shutouts lead the NCHC and tie for second nationally. The Bulldogs now have three shutouts as a team this season, tying Clarkson for the most in the NCAA. Senior forward Avery Peterson scored two goals for UMD, doubling his season total, while recording his first multi-goal game as a Bulldog and first since his freshman season when he played at Omaha (did it twice). No. 2/4 North Dakota topped Miami, 4-1, Friday behind two goals from junior forward Nick Jones. It was the transfer from Ohio State’s first multi-goal game as a Fighting Hawk as he now leads the team with five tallies. Jones is now riding a four-game point streak with seven points (4g, 3a) in that span. By allowing only one goal, UND has allowed two goals or less in 10 of 11 games this season. The Fighting Hawks tie for second in the NCAA defensively, giving up only 1.64 goals per game. Omaha senior forward David Pope tallied two goals and had an assist in Friday’s win at CC. He is now on a four-game point streak with nine points (6g, 3a) in that span, including a goal in each game. Friday’s recaps

On the first full night of National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) play this season, home teams went 3-1-0 Friday night

with the lone road team to win being Omaha. The Mavericks won their conference opener, 5-3, at Colorado College behind a strong power play. In the biggest game of the night, No. 3/3 Denver saddled top-ranked St. Cloud State with its first loss of the season, 4-2, at Magness Arena. Sophomore Hunter Shepard recorded his second shutout of the season as No. 12/14 Minnesota Duluth blanked No. 18/15 Western Michigan, 3-0, for its first NCHC win of the season. And in Grand Forks, junior Nick Jones scored twice to lead No. 2/4 North Dakota to a 4-1 over Miami.

In a match-up of top-3 heavyweights, defending national cham-pion and No. 3/3 Denver outlasted top-ranked St. Cloud State, 4-2, Friday night at Magness Arena to hand the Huskies their first loss of the season. The Pioneers (5-2-2, 1-2-0 NCHC) received two goals each from sophomore forward Henrik Borgström and junior forward Jarid Lukosevicius to pick up their first win in NCHC play. Borgström opened the scoring in the first frame, while the Huskies (7-1-0, 2-1-0 NCHC) pulled even early in the second stanza. Lukosevicius then scored the next two goals, including the game-winner on the power play only 40 ticks into the third period. Borgström assisted on the game-winner and added an empty-net-ter to seal the win for a three-point night. Despite the loss, SCSU outshot the Pioneers, 34-29, but senior goalie Tanner Jaillet made 32 saves in the win. The top-5 teams complete their series Satur-day night at 7:05 p.m. MT.

In a top-20 clash, No. 12/14 Minnesota Duluth earned its first NCHC win of the season, whitewashing No. 18/15 Western Mich-igan, 3-0, Friday at AMSOIL Arena. Junior forward Peter Krieger opened the scoring midway through the first frame, while senior forward Avery Peterson tacked on two goals in the third period. His first came less than a minute into the final frame and the second came on the power play midway through the period. Sophomore goaltender Hunter Shepard stopped all 22 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season, as UMD (5-4-2, 1-2-0 NCHC) outshot the Broncos (5-4-1, 2-1-0 NCHC), 38-22, in the win. The teams wrap up their series Saturday at 7:07 p.m. CT.

Behind a strong power play effort, Omaha overcame an early deficit to rally past Colorado College for a 5-3 in its conference opener Friday at the Broadmoor World Arena. The Mavericks (4-2-1, 1-0-0 NCHC) improved to 4-0 on Fridays while going 4-for-6 on the power play and outshooting the Tigers (6-5-0, 2-3-0 NCHC), 38-29. Senior forward David Pope scored two goals and had an assist for Omaha, while classmate Tyler Vesel chipped in a goal

and an assist. The Mavs scored four goals in the second period, including three on the power play, with one each from Pope and Vesel, after CC grabbed a 2-0 lead. Junior forward Trey Bradley struck twice for the Tigers in the second stanza, his second making it 4-3 Omaha, but CC didn’t score again. The sides complete their series Saturday at 6:07 p.m. MT.

Behind a three-goal second period, No. 2/4 North Dakota topped Miami, 4-1, Friday at Ralph Engelstad Arena. Junior forward Nick Jones scored twice for the Fighting Hawks (7-2-2, 2-1-0 NCHC), both in the middle stanza, while classmate Rhett Gardner tallied the game-winner in between Jones’ markers. Despite the loss, Miami (4-5-0, 1-2-0 NCHC) outshot UND, 28-26, but freshman goalie Peter Thome made 27 saves to earn his second career win. The RedHawks and Fighting Hawks wrap up their series Saturday at 7:07 p.m. CT with the game on national TV on FOX College Sports Pacific.
