Eamonn Brennan, Chief Executive, Irish Aviation Authority Eamonn Brennan is Chief Executive of the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) with responsibility for the provision of Air Traffic Management (ATM) in Irish controlled airspace, aeronautical communications on the North Atlantic, and Air Traffic Control at the major Irish Airports, as well as the safety and security regulation of the Irish civil aviation industry. Mr Brennan is also a member of the Board of Aireon, established to launch the world’s first satellite based air traffic surveillance system from 2018, and a member of the Board of Entry Point North, an international provider of Air Traffic Controller training services. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the COOPANS Alliance Board (comprising of the ANSPs of Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Ireland and Sweden). He was Chairman of the Eurocontrol Chief Executive’s Standing Conference 2004-2006 and Chairman of the Air Navigation Services Board of Eurocontrol 2006-2007. He was a member of the Executive Board of the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) from 2005 to 2011.

Patrick Edmond, Group Strategy Director and Managing Director of IASC, Shannon GroupPatrick Edmond is responsible for Shannon Group’s strategic projects and, as Managing Director for the International Aviation Services Centre, for expanding an aviation industry cluster at Shannon Airport. He is an Engineering graduate of Trinity College Dublin and also holds an MSc in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University as well as an MBA from Purdue University. He has over 20 years’ experience in strategy, consultancy, aircraft leasing, and airlines.

Henrik Hololei Director General “Mobility and Transport” (DG MOVE), European Commission Since 1st October, 2015, Henrik Hololei has held the position of Director General of the European Commission’s directorate for “Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE). Prior to that, he was Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission. From 2013 he was Head of Cabinet of Vice-President of the European Commission, Siim Kallas, responsible for Transport and Mobility. His professional experience prior to joining the EU institutions in 2004 has included Chief Government Counsellor for EU Affairs and Director of the Office of European Integration in the Estonian Government Office.


Stephen Kavanagh, CEO, Aer Lingus Stephen Kavanagh was appointed as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Aer Lingus on 1 March 2015. Previously he had served as the Airline’s Chief Strategy & Planning Officer since early 2014, and, before that, he was Chief Commercial Officer from 2009. He joined the Company in 1988 and undertook a number of analytical and management roles in fleet scheduling and business planning departments before being appointed Operations Planning Manager in 2003. He joined the senior management team in March 2006 as Planning Director and was appointed Corporate Planning Director in November 2007. He is a graduate of University College Dublin.

Aengus Kelly, CEO, Aercap Aengus Kelly is CEO and Executive Director of AerCap, the global leader in aircraft leasing and aviation finance. Kelly was appointed Chief Executive Officer of AerCap in May 2011. From January 2008 to May 2011, he was Chief Executive Officer of AerCap’s U.S. operations. Kelly served as AerCap’s Group Treasurer from 2005 to the end of 2007. Kelly started his career in the aviation leasing and financing business with Guinness Peat Aviation (GPA) in 1998 and has continued working with its successors AerFi in Ireland and debis AirFinance and AerCap in Amsterdam and Dublin. Prior to joining GPA in 1998, he spent three years with KPMG in Dublin. Kelly is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and a Master’s degree in Accounting from University College Dublin.

George Lee, Economist (Conference Moderator) George Lee is an Irish economist, journalist, television and radio presenter, and former Fine Gael politician. He worked for RTÉ from 1992 to 2009 and was appointed Economics Editor in 1996. During his time in RTÉ News and Current Affairs he was named Irish Journalist of the Year and he has presented many documentary programmes for RTÉ. George Lee was elected to Dáil Eireann in June, 2009. In 2010 he resigned both from Fine Gael and from Dáil Éireann. He returned to RTÉ in 2010 and presented “Mind Your Business” and currently presents “The Business” on RTE Radio 1. He is currently RTÉ’s Agriculture and Environment Correspondent.


Conor McCarthy, Executive Chairman, Dublin Aerospace Conor McCarthy joined the airline industry as an Aircraft Avionics Apprentice at the age of 16 and spent 18 years with Aer Lingus where he overhauled the Airline’s Transatlantic Operation with the introduction of the Airbus A330 in the mid ‘90s. In 1996 he moved to Ryanair as Director of Group Operations. Mr McCarthy is a co-founder, shareholder and former director of AirAsia and its affiliates in Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and India. In 2009 he established Dublin Aerospace and following on from the successful launch and growth, he won the 2011 Ernst & Young Irish Entrepreneur of the Year (Emerging Category).

Danny McCoy, CEO, IbecDanny McCoy is Chief Executive Officer of Ibec, a post he assumed in July 2009. Prior to joining Ibec he was a senior economist at both the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and the Central Bank of Ireland. He has held lecturing posts at Dublin City University, University College London, University of Oxford and Trinity College Dublin. He has been a consultant for the European Commission and the OECD. He is a member of the Irish National Competitiveness Council, the National Economic and Social Council and the Export Trade Council.

Peter Morris, Chief Economist, FlightAscend Peter Morris is FlightAscend’s Chief Economist, and is responsible for projects concerning airports, airlines, market demand analysis, forecasting and new aircraft and product research. Prior to joining Ascend’s Consultancy team in 2003, Mr Morris was IATA’s Chief Economist and headed the IATA Research Consultancy Department. Over the previous ten years he built up the Aviation Information & Research Dept for IATA to be one of the Industry’s leading suppliers of Market Research, Statistical and Forecasting Information. He has been responsible for the direction and management of more than fifty international studies including in the areas of aviation strategy, forecasting, market research, new product research and cargo. He is a regular media commentator on issues connected with aviation policy and industry trends.

Michael O’Leary, CEO, RyanairMichael O’Leary has served as Ryanair CEO since 1993. Born in a stable, at Christmas in 1961, he was a boy genius who excelled academically and in the sports field. Having represented Ireland at bog snorkelling and flower arranging, he graduated from Trinity College Dublin as soon as they could get rid of him. He became a very boring KPMG accountant until yet another failed career choice sentenced to him to lifelong servitude in the airline business, as he is manifestly unsuitable for employment in any properly functioning industry. Unlike many successful businessmen he holds no honorary doctorates or titles, since no respectable institution would wish to have its reputation tarnished by association with him. Bearing a remarkable resemblance to George Clooney’s younger brother, it is widely known that women find him (sadly) resistible, and his 4 children think he’s “stupid”!!

Captain Andy O’Shea, DCP Flight Standards & Head of Training Ryanair Andy O’Shea commenced flying with the Irish Air Corps in 1977 and joined Ryanair in 1992. He has been the Ryanair Head of Training since 2002 and has managed the training standards of thousands of pilots and cabin crew as the airline expanded from 25 aircraft to its current fleet of 370 B737NGs. Mr O’Shea is active in the International Pilot Training Association, a member of the EASA Aircrew Training Policy Group and the FCL Training and Partnership Group. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. As part of the National Civil Aviation Development Forum (NCADF), he chaired a Working Group on “Growing Pilot Training in Ireland”.

Matthew Thomas, CEO, Shannon Group Matthew Thomas was appointed the CEO of Shannon Group as well as a director of the Board of the Group, on 20th June 2016. Before moving to Shannon, Mr Thomas led the $4bn privatisation of La Guardia Airport in his role as Chief Commercial Officer of Vantage Airport Group. He was involved in the majority of Vantage’s thirty airport projects across four continents, as well as being a director of a number of airports in the Vantage portfolio including Nassau, Bahamas, Montego Bay, Jamaica and Santiago in Chile. He has also held senior management positions at Vancouver Airport, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Larnaca and Paphos in Cyprus, Sydney, Copenhagen and Newcastle airports.


Kevin Toland, Chief Executive, daa Kevin Toland became Chief Executive of daa in January 2013. Prior to joining the company, he was Chief Executive and President of Glanbia USA & Global Nutritionals, based in Chicago, Illinois. Previous roles at Glanbia, included Group Development Director, Chief Executive of Consumer Foods and Director of Strategy and Marketing. Before joining Glanbia, he held a number of senior management positions with Coca Cola Bottlers in Russia and with Grand Metropolitan in Ireland and Central Europe.

Fintan Towey, Director General of Civil Aviation, Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport Fintan Towey is a career civil servant with extensive experience in network industries spanning transport, energy and telecommunications. Before being appointed Director General of Civil Aviation, Fintan most recently held senior roles in public transport, civil aviation and corporate management. Civil aviation responsibilities embraced international agreements, air navigation services policy, regulatory structures and airline relations. During a Brussels posting, he represented Ireland on the European Council of Ministers’ Working Groups for Aviation and Land Transport and chaired the Groups for a Presidency term.
