SECTION B QUESTION 3 NOTE: Answer QUESTION 3 on ADDENDA A–D. Write your EXAMINATION NUMBER in the spaces provided on the ADDENDA, detach them from the question paper and hand them in with the ANSWER BOOK. 3.1 The following images were drawn in a style using clear lines and no colours,

to show how something is done step-by-step.

You are a freelance graphic designer and were asked to create visual instructions to be printed on the side of a pack of a vanilla cake mixture. Draw a set of SIX step-by-step technical illustrations to accompany the following written instructions: Use the template on ADDENDUM A (attached). 1. Gather all the ingredients (the easy-mix pack, two eggs and a cup of oil) 2. Preheat the oven to 163 °C. 3. Combine the ingredients in a bowl. 4. Pour the batter into the cake pan. 5. Bake the cake for an hour and 15 minutes. 6. Allow to cool and then decorate with icing sugar and strawberries. Include a written description underneath each illustration to explain the illustration. You can use your own words.

3.2 Icons are key elements used by designers on websites or for example in

brochure design to help with a visual language for a brand. They serve as navigation anchors or as a quick visual summary of the content because they are universally recognisable. The following are some examples:

Design a set of TWO line icons in your own style. Select and create TWO of the icons from the list given below. Use the template provided on ADDENDUM B (attached). LIST OF ICONS TO CHOOSE FROM 1. Home 2. Coffee 3. Map 4. Telephone 5. Settings 6. Group 7. Locked

(4)

3.3 As a designer you will work with fonts all the time. Some designers even

create their own fonts to sell (or sometimes just to use in a special design project). SIX letters are given to you on ADDENDUM C (attached). Draw the next SIX letters of the same font and in the same style as you think they should look on the template provided. Pay attention to the little details such as the serifs and thickness of the lines of each letter.

3.4 A popular type of template that you can buy is INSTAGRAM MASKS. These

are basically white layers you can use over photos to make them look more interesting. See the following example: The 'mask' is the white design layer that is added over each photo.

Design a bundle of SIX INSTAGRAM PHOTO MASKS to sell online.

The bundle must show a cohesive style (look and feel).

Create a bundle that can be used by a brand with a strong geometric style (hexagons, triangles, etc.).

Use your creativity and imagination.

Draw the masks in pen or pencil in the blocks provided on ADDENDUM D (attached). You do not need to show the photos, only show the masks.
