Public Further Education and Training (TVET) Colleges strive to provide high
quality education and training to help you equip yourself with the qualifications
and skills to face the many challenges of the working world, with more than just
a qualification on paper. Public TVET Colleges also work closely with players
and stakeholders from various industries to help fulfill the great need that exists
for trained, skilled and qualified employees through customised education and
training programmes.
As a public TVET College student, you will gain integrated theoretical and
practical experience. Exposure to your chosen industry as well as a meaningful
qualification as part of an affordable education - to which every South African
has a right. This is true not only if you are just starting your career-focused
education, but also if you are an adult of any age interested in making a complete

A Modern Qualification offered by TVET Colleges
Subjects Per Programme - National Certificate
(Volcational) - Level 2
Introduction - The National Certicate (Vocational) is a year programme at levels 2, 3 and
4 of the National Qualications Framework (NQF). It is a modern qualication that concentrates
on providing theoretical and practical training. The NC(V) programme provides experience in the
workplace environment. The qualication also provides an opportunity to enter higher education
studies subject to appropriate subject combinations and the requirements of the University.
The Combination of subjects for the National Certicate (Vocational)
This structure and combination of subjects is applicable to every level of study of the qualication.
Entry Requirements: Gr 9 or above (Preferably Gr 11/12)
SUBJECTS - The three fundamental subjects are:
• English First Additional Language
Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and•
Life Orientation (Includes computer literacy)•
Four Vocational Subjects
These are subjects approved from the sub-eld organisation of the NQF
Sub-eld Programmes offered in the qualication
The Subject combination in each of the sub-eld programmes provide a high degree of specialisation
for a particular sub-eld programme.
