Call for Girl Day 2017 Volunteers

Women In Bio-Austin Area has joined with the University of Texas at Austin’s Women in Engineering Program to host an event

at Girl Day 2017 on Saturday, February 25th 2017. Girl Day at UT Austin will again have two events this year: “Introduce a Girl

to Engineering Day,” supported by lead partner Halliburton; and the “Girl Day STEM Festival,” supported by lead partner Texas

Instruments. We anticipate having over 2,000 elementary and middle school girls in STEM attend Girl Day 2017, and seek

The upcoming change in our federal government’s administration will likely bring drastic policy changes to the Affordable Care

Act. Hospitals are concerned about the potential loss of patients, and payers are exploring operating models that improve

quality and lower costs. Pharmaceutical companies are navigating the implications of regulatory changes that impact how they

bring life-saving products to market. What will the future of health care hold? Join us on January 24, 2017, for a panel discussion

with industry experts who will discuss possible near-term policy adjustments and implications for patients.

YWIB Partners with Citizen Schools for Cooking Class

WIB-Chicago’s Young Women In Bio group partnered with Citizen Schools for the Apprenticeship in Action program at an

elementary school in the Bronzeville neighborhood. A chef instructor from Common Threads led a weekly cooking

apprenticeship, introducing students and volunteers to the cuisine and culture of countries around the world. WIB volunteers

found the experience to be rewarding and a fun way to teach children about nutrition and healthy living. If you are interested in

Join us at the Cambridge Innovation Center on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, for the third installment of our WIB-Greater

Boston series, “The Business of Life Sciences,” as we continue to explore various functions in biotech through the experience of

local women life science leaders. Our February event will focus on career paths in Pre-clinical Research and Development. The

series has provided stimulating discussion and is an excellent networking opportunity. Food and drinks will be served.

March

The "Challenges and Best Practices in Laboratory Design" event will be held on March 2, 2017. It will feature a panel discussion

on the challenges and best practices involved with designing, building, and operating laboratory facilities. Experts in these fields

will share their knowledge and an audience Q&A will be held.

To celebrate Women’s History month, WIB will again partner with J&J Innovation to hold a “Shark Tank”-style event in March

2017 (Date TBA).

A WIB-Southern California Event: "Hot Trends in Bio: A Unique Perspective in Precision

Medicine in Oncology"

Please join us on January 24, 2017, for a special program featuring Jessica Corson, Senior Director of Business Development,

Mirati Therapeutics. Jessica is a recognized leader in her field, and will share her perspective and experience in drug

development at a small biotechnology company. She will discuss precision/personalized medicine in oncology, as well as the

challenges faced with the conduction of clinical trials, patient enrollment, and pricing. Jessica will also be sharing some new

12.9% of computer science degrees. She Started It gives a new face to the image of the tech entrepreneur - a female face. Join

"Taking Time for Yourself – Join Fellow Members for Yoga on the Beach"

So often, we prioritize responsibilities to our families, our careers, relationships, and our community before all else. But “having

it all” can leave us with increased stress and no time or strength left for ourselves. On January 28, 2017, start the new year right

by taking some much deserved “ME” time with your fellow WIB members in a beach yoga class. This fun and friendly event will

be a great first step to de-stress, unwind, and rejuvenate. After yoga, partake in light refreshments at the WIB tent and get to

Join us February 16, 2017, for an enlightening and inspiring event focused on medical devices. Our panel discussion will include

topics such as career development and growth, work life balance, and departmental challenges. Our panel features leaders from

all different disciplines in the medical device industry. Moderated by Jeanine Kestler, Executive Vice President, Chief Human

Volunteers Needed for Young Women In Bio Event

The WIB-Southern California YWIB group will hold a Junior Mentoring Event on Saturday, February 11, 2017, through the BE

WISE program. For this event we invite volunteers from the Women In Bio community who are bench scientist, regulatory

professionals, clinicians, IP attorneys, marketing and business development professionals, and others in the bioscience

industry to participate in this mentoring opportunity. We need 8 to 10 volunteers, on a first come/first serve basis, who will briefly

share their educational background, work experience, current responsibilities, and daily work routine with young women (grades

8 to 12). The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Fleet Science Center located at 1875 El Prado, San

We are recruiting students and STEM enthusiasts to participate in a one-day event for high school and college level young

women on February 4, 2016, at San Diego State University. This conference-style event will inspire, connect, and guide those

interested in STEM careers through speed mentoring with local women in STEM fields, workshops on STEM careers, and tips
