Note: Donny Perry checked the Granto/Grantee index for Rockcastle County Deeds. The deeds start in 1865 asmost of the records prior to 1865 were lost to a fire in 1871. He states: "I looked for Isreal, Thomas and JeffRose in these indexes to see if they show up. None of these names do. I then searched the grantors index for thedaughters and the son-in-laws of Israel, namely Shelton (Nancy) Ballard, Elisha (Martha Ann) Harrison and Uriah(Malvina) McAnnally to see if they may have inherited land and not transferred it till years later. the 1860 censusof Rockcastle County shows Israel Rose with personal property on, no real estate."

Some people say Isreal is buried around Alcorn, Kentucky on the Jackson/Estill border.

Donnie Rose's book:"A skeleton was found under some rocks as you go toward the cliff coming from Rock Lick you can see the

rocks near the creek. A peddler came by with his wagon filled with goods. He sold pots and pans and otherthings. "Little Nat" knew something about this skeleton, but didn't tell anything. Mary and Lessie Rose wereyoung girls and were not allowed to play on top of the hill on A.C. Rose's farm. Thomas and Clark Rose andpossibly some of the other boys had killed the peddler and stole his goods. They buried him, killed his mulesand left his wagon in the woods on the hill. They divided the pots and pans and the rest of his goods and usedthem in their homes. That is why the girls were not allowed to go up there. They said that Em Rose would justsit and cry about what her sons had done."

Thomas was affiliated with the Christian Church. He was a merchant and served as a judge.

From History of Howard and Chariton Counties, MissouriThe Abrams family is an old one in the history of the country. The founder of the family in the United Statescame to this county long prior to the Revolution, and settled in Pennsylvania. In that state Joseph Abrams, thefather of the Judge, was born and partly reared, but, while still quite young his parents removed to Kentucky,

and were among the pioneer settlers of the Blue Grass State. After Jospeh Abrams grew up in Kentucky, he wasmarried to Miss Elizabeth Piersefield, originally of Virginia, and of this union Thomas, Judge Abrams was bornin Madison County, January 4, 1806. In 1840, the father, then an old man, removed to Lawrence County, Oho,whee he died two years afterwards. Thomas, the Judge, was reared in Kentucky, and was himself a middle-agedman when his father went to Ohio. His education was acquired by private study, having had, practially no schooladvantages in youth. When in his twentieth year, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Rose, who continued hiscompanion in life for over forty years, dying in the county, in 1869, having borne him thirteen children. InKentucky, Judge Abrams was a citizen of Greenup County, and was for many years an influential farmer of thatcounty and prominent in its public affairs. He was long a magistrate of the county and also served seven years asone of the county court judges. In 1857 he removed to Missouri, and settled in Chariton county. Here hecontinued farming until 1865, when he engaged in the mercantile business in the vicinity of the present site ofCunningham. The following year he removed his business to Rothville, and also established a branch store atCunningham. In 1867 he returned to Cunningham, and gave his whole time and attention to his mercantile andother interests at this place. But a life of industry had brought him him a competence for old age, and he wasadmonished by advancing years that the time had come for him to retire from all the active labors of life.Accordingly, in 1873, he disposed of his business interests, and has since been leading a life of comparativeretirement and ease, surrounded by neighbors and friends who respect him for his honored old age and for themany excellent qualities of his mind and heart, and blessed by a family who love and revere him. For a quarterof a century, Judge Abrams has been almost continously a magistrate in this county. For several years he has been

conducting a small farming business here, more as a relief from the dull monotony of retirement thatotherwise. After the death of his fIrst wife, Judge Abrams was married in this county, to Mrs. Rachel M.Cheatham, a widow lady, daughter of C. M. Custer, originally of Virginia. Of his fIrst family of children butthree are now living: Angeline, now the wife of W. H. Tufts, Elizabeth, consort of J. A. Brewster, and WilliamM. in Kentucky. Three died in tender years. The others died later in life, viz: Victoria at the age of eleven;Thomas J., at thirteen; Massie, after her marriage to John M. Bryant; Easter, while the wife of John L. Stanley;Catherine, aged eighteen; Aremathy, while the wife of Isaiah Bonds; and isaac, at the age of twenty-eight, in

1870. Judge Abrams' present wife had two children by her former marriage. The Judge and Mrs. A. are bothmembers of the Christian Church.

Thomas was aged 99 years, 2 months, 5 days when he died.

Notes for WILLIAM ROSE:It was April 27, 1822 in Point Pleasant, Ohio that a son was born to a farmer and tanner. This son was UlyssesSimpson grant and was to become the 18th President of the United States. It was in that same year, 1822, in theneighboring state of Kentucky and the county of Estill that William Rose was born to Nathaniel Rose, Sr. and hiswife, Esther Dorton/Dalton Rose.William grew up on a farm in Estill County, Kentucky and at about the age of nineteen he married Sarah "Sally"Ann Richardson on April 13, 1841. They were married by Rev. Samuel Kelly in Estill County. Sarah was bornabout 1822. Her father was David Richardson, born 1794 in Virginia. David's father was Benjamin Richardsonwho was born 1770 in Virginia. Sally Ann's mother was Susan Keziah Skinner. Susan was the daughter ofCortland Skinner who married Hannah Reed 18 June 1793 in Rowan County, SC. Sally's mother died 1854 inEstill County. Keziah gave permission for her daughter, Sarah Ann to marry William Rose of Madison County.Surety was Henry Richardson. Box 12, Estill County, KY. Sarah and William made their home in Estill County,Kentucky in the same neighborhood with Sidney Dozier and JoelWhite. These two men were later helpful to Sallyin her attempt to obtain a widow's pension for William's service in the Union Army during the American CivilWar.

The 1850 census of Estill County lists William as twenty-nine years old. He was a laborer by occupation andin sound physical health who could neither read or write.

William enrolled in the Civil War on the Union side on October 29, 1862, at Estill County, in Company F,14th Regiment of Kentucky Cavalry Volunteers to serve one year. He mustered into service as a private onFebruary 13, 1863 at Irvine, Kentucky.
