Upper Southwest Arkansas Regional Solid Waste Management District Class 1 Solid Waste Landfill
Existing Permit Number: 0265-S1-R1 AFIN: 31-000107The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), under provisions
of Regulation No. 22 of the Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission, has scheduled a Public Meeting in Nashville, Arkansas, on Thursday, January 21, 2016, to discuss the proposed lateral expansion of the Upper Southwest Arkansas Regional Solid Waste Management District (Upper SW Arkansas RSWMD) Class 1 Solid Waste Landfill located in Nashville, Arkansas.
The scheduled Public Meeting will be held at The Green Room, Nashville City Park, 1301 West Johnson Street, Nashville, Arkansas. The Public Meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm. The ADEQ Solid Waste Management Division has determined that the Upper SW Arkansas RSWMD has submitted an administratively complete Pre-Application requesting to construct a lateral expansion that includes an increase in both acreage and capacity at the Upper SW Arkansas RSWMD Class 1 Landfill. The Class 1 landfill would accept nonhazardous household, commercial, and industrial solid waste as defined by Regulation 22; and other special waste as defined by Regulation 22. The current Pre-Application contemplates an approximate increase of 43.5 acres. This increase is considered a major modification and a lateral expansion of the landfill permit. The proposed Upper SW Arkansas RSWMD Class 1 Landfill is located at 319 Landfill Road, Nashville, Arkansas. The proposed facility is located approximately ten (1 0) miles north of Nashville, Arkansas, on the east side of Arkansas Highway 369 in the South halfofthe Southwest quarter of Section 12 and the North halfofthe North halve of Section 13, Township 8 South, Range 21 West, Howard County, Arkansas.
The purpose of the Public Meeting is to provide interested persons with the opportunity to meet with ADEQ SWMD staff and informally discuss the agency’s solid waste permitting process, as well as discuss the proposed expansion of the Upper SW Arkansas RSWMD Class 1 Landfill. Since the meeting is not a formal hearing, no prepared statements are necessary, and no formal comments are recorded during the pre-application process. After the pre-application process and when the facility develops a full application, additional public notices and formal comment periods will be provided before a final permit decision is developed.
In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a decision may be made to postpone the meeting. If the meeting is postponed and rescheduled, a new legal notice will be published to announce the details of the new meeting date.
Additional information on the proposed expansion and the permitting process is available from Bill Sadler (501) 682-0606 or Bryan Leamons (501) 682-0601; ADEQ Solid Waste Management Division; 5301 Northshore Drive; North Little Rock, AR 72118-5317.
