Advancing technologies’ role in society and industry in a very broad sense exemplifies their role as promoter v for inspiration and imagination v for invention of new technology v for research communities v for investment v for national ambitions
Connected ecosystems
Pune, 07.10.2015 3
With all that innovations there is v a need for a new Intellectual property framework by setting the bar high enough to encourage world class R&D investments but low enough to build connected eco system
v however the human attention has become the single most important resource in computing today—more so than processor speed, bandwidth, storage, or battery life. Yet, even with that increased importance, it's not well understood.

An IoT Definition
v Smart Objects and Sensors
v Networks of Things v Self-organizing systems
The Internet of Things envisions a self-configuring and adaptive complex system made out of networks of sensors and smart objects whose purpose is to interconnect “all” things, including every day and industrial objects in such a way to make them intelligent, programmable and more capable of interacting with humans
v Intelligence at the edge v Massive Data v New communication
paradigms v Servitization v Virtual Continuum

The role of Standards
IEEE P2413 Purpose and Motivation v The Internet of Things is a key enabler for many emerging and
future “smart” applications and technology shifts in various technology markets. It is therefore predicted to become one of the most significant drivers of growth in these markets.
v Most current standardization activities are confined to very specific domains and stakeholder groups. They therefore represent islands of disjointed and often redundant development. The architectural framework defined in this standard will promote cross-domain interaction, aid system interoperability and functional compatibility, and further fuel market growth

The role of Standards
Should mobile eco-systems in India* continue to adapt their mobile use cases and deployments based on available standards designed primarily for perhaps another part of the world? Or is it time for new 5G/IoT standardization efforts to adapt technology to the needs of evolving markets where the next billion mobile users are expected to come from? That requieres taking into account the specifics of the environment e.g. the fragmented spectrum situation in India and its resulting impact on service quality What needs to be addressed in standardization are emerging
Use cases for 5G/IoT that will really have an impact on the lives of people from evolving markets. * Chaitali Sengupta, Vice President Product Development and Engineering at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd

Industry 4.0 – The Verticals
14
3G and 4G are mainly content-centric networks. 5G however is expected to be not only a fast and efficient content delivery network, but a communication platform to enable monitoring, controlling and steering objects remotely The factory of the future and vertical businesses most importantly
v Health & Care v Automotive v Energy v Edutainment & Events
will revolutionize the way we manufacture, deliver services and entertain (more in the session to come)

Tactile Internet

Tactile Internet
Pune, 07.10.2015 16
v The tactile Internet can be seen as the extension of current mobile Internet and Internet of Things in regard to moving objects and real-time applications based on a 5G-communication infrastructure
v Main focus à the human in the loop
v ©Gerhard Fettweis, TU Dresden
v The comparison with the sensing/reacting of the human body capability has been taken as the foundation for a definition of new service classes and applications, in particular for virtual reality, robotics and human caretaking
Tactile Internet
creates a paradigm shift from content delivery to skill-set delivery networks
